Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In the first ever episode, aliens called The Bane are planning to control the human race using what soft drink?

Answer: Bubbleshock

The Bane are making this drink in order to take over the human race. It contains alien ingredients that allow The Bane to control any human that drinks it. Although they take human form, The Bane are actually squid-like creatures who are ruled by The Bane Mother, a giant alien that lives in the Bubbleshock factory. They are led by the cruel Mrs Wormwood (Samantha Bond).
2. When Alan Jackson and his daughter, Maria, move into the house across the road from Sarah Jane, she invites them in for a chat so she appears normal.

Answer: False

Sarah Jane ( Elisabeth Sladen) lives a very lonely life. This is because she knows how dangerous her work can become and she doesn't want to be responsible for anyone else getting hurt because of her. When she first meets Alan (Joseph Millson) and Maria (Yasmin Paige), she is quite rude as she doesn't want anyone finding out what she does. Maria later sneaks into Sarah Jane's garden and accidentally sees her helping an alien.
3. The Bane have created 'the perfect human' in order to complete their mission. What do they call him?

Answer: The Archetype

Everyone that enters the Bubbleshock factory is scanned. This information is then fed into a boy that The Bane have created. They do this because there are still some humans who do not like the taste of the Bubbleshock and will not drink it. They hope to find a way to make everyone love it. Sarah Jane and Maria meet in the factory and then The Archetype escapes and the three join forces. Having found out that using a mobile phone hurts The Bane Mother, it is this boy that saves the world. He is a genius and remembers an enormous number Mr. Smith gave them that makes every phone network call The Bane.

With The Bane destroyed, The Archetype is a frightened homeless boy. He is obviously not human as he has no belly button, so, with the help of Mr. Smith, Sarah Jane adopts him and names him Luke.
4. In 'Whatever happened to Sarah Jane', Maria wakes up to find that no one else has ever heard of Sarah Jane and a woman named Andrea Yates is living in Sarah's house. As Maria investigates, she discovers that the Sarah Jane she knows died at age 13. Where was she when she died?

Answer: A school trip

An enemy Sarah Jane will battle again more than once is The Trickster. This creature appears to people just before they die and offers them a deal. In this story, Andrea and Sarah Jane snuck away from a school trip and went onto the pier that had been blocked off as it was unsafe. Sarah Jane didn't want to go but Andrea convinced her, then the railing broke and Andrea fell. In the real world, Andrea died, but when The Trickster appeared, he told her he could save her by putting Sarah Jane in her place. Andrea was so frightened that she agreed and Sarah Jane died instead.

When she is reminded what she did, Andrea (Jane Asher) realises she was wrong and takes back her agreement with The Trickster so that Sarah Jane can save the world again.
5. In 'The Lost Boy', Maria doesn't believe that Luke's parents are who they say they are. Her father, Alan, finds something when they are investigating the house that makes him scream. What does he find?

Answer: A human skin

The TV news shows an appeal from a family whose son is missing. They show a picture of Luke, claiming his name is Ashley. Maria's mother, Chrissie, phones the police and Luke is taken and Sarah Jane is arrested. Knowing Luke has no belly button, Maria will not accept that he is a missing human child.

She drags her father to the house Luke has been taken to and they find a human skin suit hanging on one of the doors. Her dad shrieks like a girl and thinks they are dealing with cannibals. Maria is then very happy when she is able to strut through Sarah Jane's door and tell her, "They're not Luke's parents, they're Slitheeen!"
6. A creature that has plagued both The Doctor and Sarah Jane is The Slitheen. What planet do they come from?

Answer: Raxacoricofallapatorius

The Slitheen are a criminal family. They will steal anything, do whatever it takes and destroy anyone as long as they make money. They kill humans and then use their skin as a disguise, unzipping it at the forehead, usually just before they attack.

Gallifrey is Doctor Who's home planet. The people of Alfava Metraxis are said to have disappeared because of the Weeping Angels. Tetrapyriarbus was somewhere the Doctor once again met 'The Rani', a Timelady.
7. During a battle with The Slitheen, Sarah Jane, Luke and Maria gain a new friend named Clyde Langer. Luckily, the children know their way around as it takes place in their high school. What is the name of their school?

Answer: Park Vale

Maria and Luke are both fairly new to the school but Clyde (Daniel Anthony) is the self-styled class clown. After The Slitheen reveal themselves, Clyde teams up with the others and ends up being a big help, mainly thanks to his lunch!
How many people do you know would have a bag of chips in their schoolbag? After what he sees and because he helps them defeat The Slitheen, Sarah Jane lets Clyde in on the secret but makes him swear not to tell anyone what they do.
8. The Slitheen are exceptionally strong but they have one very simple weakness. What is it?

Answer: Vinegar

OK, here's the science bit! Human beings are carbon-based life forms. This means that certain things that do not mix with carbon are poisonous to us. The Slitheen are a calcium-based life form and things that are harmless to us are deadly to these aliens. So while you might enjoy some vinegar on your chips, when The Slitheen come in contact with it, it causes a chemical reaction and they explode!
9. In one episode, Maria Jackson's mother, Chrissie, is convinced that Sarah Jane is in love with her ex-husband. What does she see that makes her think this?

Answer: A statue of him in Sarah's living room

Maria's mother and father are divorced and Maria went to live with her dad.
Her mother, Chrissie (Juliet Cowan), is always (annoyingly) popping round.
While the team are battling the Gorgon, Alan is turned to stone in Sarah Jane's house as he looks straight into its eyes. After realising that the Gorgon is actually an alien parasite, they go to the convent where the nuns are protecting it. With the body of the old host dying, the parasite needs a new human to take over and it chooses Sarah Jane. She is about to be taken over when Maria runs in with a mirror and reflects the gaze of the Gorgon, making it turn itself to stone and freeing the nuns from their trance.
When the Gorgon is dead, Alan becomes normal again so Chrissie is very embarrassed when she gathers everyone to look at the statue that isn't there.
10. In 'The Warriors of Kudlak', children begin disappearing after playing what laser tag game?

Answer: Combat 3000

Luke is still finding it difficult to fit in at school as only Clyde and Maria understand why he is so weird. Having been given a leaflet, Luke agrees to play the new laser game with Clyde. What they don't know is that the winners of the game are considered warriors and transported to an orbiting spaceship, waiting to be sent to a distant planet.

They are then expected to be soldiers in a war. The thing is, the war ended years ago but the alien computer wouldn't believe it.
11. Sarah Jane has a super computer hiding in the wall of her attic. She calls him Mr. Smith but he is actually alien. What is the name of his species?

Answer: Xyloc

In one episode, Mr. smith has secretly recruited The Slitheen to help him destroy the human race. He believed that this is his purpose and he has been using Sarah Jane to make it happen. As the world is ending, Sarah Jane is desperate and asks for help. Maria's dad, Alan, is a computer genius and she gets him to help her install a deadly virus into Mr. Smith to wipe his memory. As the Xyloc's memory quickly fails, he forgets his purpose and asks Sarah Jane what it is.

She tells him his purpose is to save the world and he agrees, reversing what he had done.

The voice of Mr. Smith is Alexander Armstrong.
12. In 'Whatever Happened to Sarah Jane', Maria is transported back to 1964 by what creature?

Answer: Graske

The Graske are nasty little creatures. They have the ability to remove someone from reality. In this case, The Graske was working for The Trickster and taking and hiding people who realise what is real. Maria is holding a puzzle box when Andrea's change happens, so she remembers. Later, when The Trickster comes back to Andrea and she asks that Maria is taken away, Alan Jackson is holding the box. He realises Maria has been telling the truth as now, no one remembers her so he captures The Graske and forces him to bring Maria and Sarah Jane back.

The Groske are blue and we don't see them until we meet the Shansheeth in series 4. The Gorgon was an alien parasite that turned people to stone. A gremlin is a creature from a movie in the 1980s.
13. In 'The Last Sontaran', Kaagh plans to destroy the earth by blowing up the world's nuclear power stations. How does he plan to do this?

Answer: By making earths satellites fall from space onto the stations

After strange lights are reported in the sky, Sarah Jane and the others go to investigate. Maria's mind is not completely on the job as she has a big decision to make. Kaagh (Anthony O'Donnell) is the last surviving Sontaran of a destroyed fleet. He feels it is still his job to destroy the earth. Using mind control, he takes over a scientist, Professor Skinner (Ronan Vibert,)at a laboratory where he can control earth's satellites.
14. In 'The Last Sontaran', all seems lost until Maria's parents, Alan and Chrissie turn up. Maria's mother is the unlikely hero when she defeats Kaagh single handed. What does she use to do this?

Answer: Her shoe

Sontarans are not born, they are cloned. This means that each and every one of them has the exact same weakness. All of them have a 'probic vent' on the back of their neck and attacking this can knock them out or even kill them. When Maria's mother arrives, she sees not only her daughter in danger but a strange potato-headed alien as well.

In instinct, she takes off her shoe and jams her stiletto heel into the vent. She is thrown back and knocked out. Having saved the world, everyone else decides not to tell her but later, Chrissie reveals to Sarah Jane that she remembers everything, and will keep the secret.
15. Sadly, at the end of this series, the team loses Maria Jackson as her father has been offered a new job abroad. What country are they moving to?

Answer: America

It is a big decision for Maria, as her father says he won't go if she doesn't want to. The excitement of a new country was enough, as Maria says her goodbyes and leaves the alien hunting behind for a new life in America. This leaves the house across the road empty for a new family, with a new nosy teenager!
