Answer: Yellow Lab

Rowdy is a yellow lab, although yellow labs look very similar to golden retrievers. Rowdy first appeared in the episode "My Mentor" in season one.

In season 4, Carla tells Elliot and Molly Clock that Turk bought Rowdy eight years ago at a garage sale from a man who used to keep him in a box of old hats (which would make his time of purchase sometime during Turk and J.D.'s college years).

She finally gets the janitor to wash Rowdy, but in trying to get him home she puts him on the roof, and forgets to put him in the car. Rowdy falls off and Carla has to find a new Rowdy.

New Rowdy's name was Steven and he wore a green bandana. He looked just like old Rowdy, but was two inches shorter from tail to snout. Carla accepted the replacement dog anyway and hoped that Turk and J.D. would not notice. In season six we learned that the janitor had found Rowdy not long after Carla lost him but was holding on to him so that one day he could use him to blackmail Carla.

He got Carla to teach him salsa dancing in return for not tellinng the guys about Rowdy. But in the end, she ended up confessing and J.D. and Turk were happy to have two Rowdys. Turk kept the original Rowdy and J.D. took Steven.

As the gang prepared to leave for Seattle, Elliot and Keith sat in the backseat while Rowdy got to ride shotgun. J.D. said that Rowdy needed to see the world.
