Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which 1983 series starred Simon McCorkindale as a man who could change into animals?

Answer: Manimal

In theory, the hero had the ability to change into any animal he chose. However, the show plainly didn't have much of a budget, so he seemed only ever to change into a hawk or a puma. Perhaps that's why it only lasted 8 episodes.
2. Between 1995 and 1996, "American Gothic" confused audiences around the world. What was the name of the evil Sheriff?

Answer: Buck

This vaguely occult series, featuring a small-town sheriff who appears to be in league with the Devil, never seemed to know where it was going. I enjoyed the first episode, and therefore foolishly watched the rest of the series. A bit like "Twin Peaks".
3. "Battlestar Galactica" in fact only lasted for one season, although it seemed to last for years. Can you remember what the evil metal monsters were called?

Answer: cylons

I'm not counting the spectacularly misguided sequel series "Galactica 1980", in which the space travellers reach earth and encounter Wolfman Jack. The sequel makes the original look classy.
4. Which of the following characters from "Grease" was also a 1997/98 series starring Mike Damus?

Answer: Teen Angel

Damus plays Marty, a schoolboy who dies after eating a 6 month old hamburger, but returns as an angel to help his friend.
5. Complete the title of the highly controversial series, "God, the Devil and ..."

Answer: Bob

Only 2 episodes of this series, about a man who gets to single-handedly determine the salvation or determination of the world, aired in the US. I believe we got the whole series in Britain, although I didn't watch it because I didn't think it was that good. Hooray for free speech anyway.
6. Which of these was a genuine show, but didn't last more than one season?

Answer: Saved by the Bell: The College Years

The college adventures of Zac and friends plainly didn't hit the same notes as their school days (although frankly how any of the series lasted longer than 20 minutes is a mystery to me). There was no show called "Saved by the Bell: No Jokes Allowed" - it's more a descriptive of the whole franchise.
7. Which of these series was based around a high-tech motorbike?

Answer: Street Hawk

Rex Smith played "Jessie Mach" in this shameless attempt to profit from the popularity of "Knight Rider" and "AirWolf". The problem was that the bike was fundamentally unimpressive - it had to stop completely still before it could fire missiles, for example. If it had been better, maybe Rex Smith would be a singing sensation in Germany, instead of David Hasselhoff.
8. Which of these shows starring Bill Cosby completed the least number of episodes?

Answer: The Cosby Mysteries

If you're interested, "Mysteries" lasted 20 episodes, "Cosby" 96, "You Bet Your Life" 195 and "The Cosby Show" 201. "You Bet Your Life" was originally hosted by Groucho Marx, and while researching this question, I found a website which helpfully informed me that Groucho Marx was no relation to Karl Marx. You don't say.
9. Which "Golden Girl" didn't make it into the flawed sequel, "The Golden Palace"?

Answer: Bea Arthur

This is probably old hat trivia, but did you know that Estelle Getty was the second youngest "Golden Girl" (oldest was Betty White, then Bea Arthur, with Rue McLanahan the youngest)? Of course you did, what was I thinking.
10. In a 1982-83 series, Frank Buck had to "Bring Em Back ..." what?

Answer: Alive

Frank Buck (played here by Bruce Boxleitner) was a real hunter in the pre-war era. Whether he ever encountered "The Shadow Women of Chung Tai" (the title of one episode) is lost to the mysteries of time.
