Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When Donkey visited Shrek in the fall, what did he say were nothing without marshmallows?

Answer: Sweet potatoes

Donkey first visited Shrek in the summer, singing "Santa Claus is Coming to Town", to tell him that there were 159 days left until Christmas. Shrek said he didn't care about Christmas. Donkey next came to Shrek's house in the fall, singing "Jingle Bells".

He warned that there were only 51 days left until Christmas, and told Shrek he should get his big green butt in gear and go get his marshmallows, because "Everybody knows, without marshmallows, sweet potatoes are nothing".
2. What was the name of the book Shrek was given at the bookstore?

Answer: Christmas for Village Idiots

In the winter, Shrek stepped outside to shovel snow, and uncovered Donkey (still singing "Jingle Bells") with his first shovelful. Donkey said that tomorrow was Christmas Eve and asked if Shrek had trimmed his stockings, hung the chestnuts, roasted his tree, or figgyfied his pudding. Just as Shrek was telling Donkey that no one there gave a hoot about Christmas, Fiona came out with the babies, excited because they were going to have a white Christmas. Shrek then trudged through a snowstorm to go to the town bookstore, where he was given a book, "Christmas for Village Idiots", so he could make a Christmas. Shrek even heard a townsperson say the same thing Donkey did - that sweet potatoes were nothing without marshmallows.
3. The Christmas card which Donkey gave to Shrek had a photo of Donkey dressed in a Santa suit on it.

Answer: True

Fiona was awakened by noises up on the roof, and opened the door to find Shrek dangling in front of it. He had been working on step one from his book, which was 'Decorating the house'. Fiona loved what Shrek had done, but when Donkey walked up he thought someone had trashed the house.

When Shrek asked why Donkey was there, Donkey offered a Christmas card which had a photo of Donkey dressed in a Santa outfit (the red hat even featured two peaks for Donkey's ears). The card said 'Merry Christmas from Donkey and Family'.
4. Where did the three blind mice try to hang up their Christmas stockings?

Answer: On Pinocchio's leg

Fiona had mentioned to Donkey earlier that they wanted to have a family Christmas. Donkey misinterpreted this to mean all of their friends, so everyone arrived at Shrek's house just as he was getting ready to tell the Christmas story to the kids. Pinocchio was hanging his stocking when he felt something and said "Ow". Looking down, he saw one of the mice hammering his stocking onto Pinocchio's leg.
5. In Donkey's Christmas story, what was the giant Santa made of?

Answer: Waffles

After Fiona talked Shrek back into the house (he was hanging out in the outhouse), he tried to continue his Christmas story to the kids, but was interrupted by Donkey, who wanted to tell his story. Donkey told about 20-foot cheese balls, eggnog fountains and yodelling elves on ambrosia mountains.

Then, as a parade came down the street, Donkey said that when you thought that you'd just seen it all, comes a huge waffle Santa, 50 feet tall! Donkey climbed up to the waffle Santa and began licking the syrup which was dripping down, but Santa turned in to Shrek, whose leg was actually being licked by the tale-telling Donkey.
6. During Puss' Christmas tale, what did Santa Nicholas play with?

Answer: Fuzzy ball on his hat

Puss said that the Santa Nicholas he knew was not made of waffles, but was a hot Latin cat, dressed all in fur from his head to his paws. He wore red boots, a red cape, a red leather cravat, and had a cute, fuzzy thing which hung down from his hat. Santa Nicholas noticed the ball dangling in front of him, and just after his pupils dilated, he began batting it with his paws (apparently the cute, fuzzy thing had a bell in it as well).

While Santa Nicholas was doing this, we switched back to a surprised crowd watching Puss purring while playing with a Christmas ball hanging from the tree.

He realized what he was doing, stood up, and said, "I have shamed myself".
7. What happened to the Gingerbread Man's friend, Suzie, in his Christmas story?

Answer: She was eaten by Santa.

Gingy said phooey with all the sunshine and lollipops, where he came from, Christmas was a nightmare. He told of sitting in his car with his sweetheart, Suzie, on Christmas Eve (loved the little hula dancer on his dashboard). Gingy told her a scary story, and then asked if she heard something.

She said she wasn't falling for it, but when he turned the lights on, Santa was standing in front of them, and they were on a table with a glass of milk. As they both screamed, Santa reached down and took Suzie. We were spared the sight of Santa actually biting Suzie, but as we saw Gingy screaming, "Nooooooo!", crumbs fell all over him.
8. Just before he kicked everyone out of his house, Shrek was on fire.

Answer: True

Shrek and Donkey fighting over Shrek's Christmas book started all of the mayhem which led up to the Christmas tree falling into the fireplace. Shrek happened to be standing near the tree and his bottom caught on fire. Gingerbread Man told him to drop and roll, which he demonstrated, but instead, Pinocchio threw a bucket of water on him. Just as the tea kettle began boiling, so did Shrek.

He told everyone to leave, which they did in a hurry.
9. After kicking everyone out, Shrek went after them to apologize. What did he confess to them?

Answer: This was his first Christmas.

After everyone left, Shrek was surprised to see Fiona ready to leave with the kids. She was shocked that Shrek had kicked everyone out on Christmas and was going after them to apologize. Home alone, Shrek saw his Christmas book and Donkey's card, and went after everyone.

He made a couple of lame attempts to apologize, but finally admitted that he didn't know what Christmas meant, and that this was his first Christmas. Shrek told Donkey he was sorry everything ended up in a great big fight, but Donkey said that Christmas is all about fights.

His mama used to always say that Christmas ain't Christmas 'til somebody cries.
10. When everyone went outside to see Santa at the end, what did Gingerbread Man do when he saw him?

Answer: Ran back inside

Shrek told his story of Ogre Claus, and just as he was finishing, everyone heard the sound of sleigh bells and "ho ho ho". They all ran out to see Santa and his reindeer silhouetted against the moon. Gingy looked up and said, "Santa!", and ran screaming back in the house. Shrek put his arm around Fiona as they looked lovingly at each other, and then up at the moon, which grew Shrek ears thanks to Santa's magic.
