Boone basically ignored the comment and told her about the golf course. Kate overheard and was very surprised to learn that Jack, of all people, was golfing.

Sayid was ordered to execute Nadia, but he instead prepared a plan for her escape. Nadia wanted him to go with her, but he knew that his desertion would kill his family. He also believed he didn't have her courage. Unfortunately, they were caught by Sayid's superior officer, so Sayid shot him and then shot himself in the leg. Sayid gave the gun to Nadia so it would look like she shot them both and escaped. Before she left, Nadia gave Sayid her pictures.

As Sayid was still hanging from the trap Rousseau set in the jungle, he heard someone approaching. A knife suddenly cut him free and Sayid saw someone come to him, but he did not see her clearly. He later woke up in Rousseau's shelter, where she tortured Sayid for information about Alex. Sayid finally saw Rousseau clearly when he told her about finding the sixteen-year-old transmission. Rousseau was stunned and asked, "Has it really been that long?".

However, she didn't believe Sayid about the transmission and knocked him out.

Hurley finally presented his finished golf course to Jack, Charlie, and Michael. Of course, the others were skeptical and Michael even called it a waste of time, but Hurley defended his idea well. He said everyone was too tense and nervous, and he brought up the examples of the boars, the monster, and the polar bear. Michael showed his surprise at the mention of polar bears, revealing that he hadn't known about it.

Kate showed up at the golf course when she learned Jack was playing and told Jack she almost didn't recognize him because he was smiling. Jack had tried so hard to make people feel safe and had even lost sleep over it, but all Hurley had to do was build a golf course. Sometimes, the simplest solutions can be the best!

The first scene with Sayid showed him looking at pictures of Nadia as he sat on the beach. As he was doing this, he spied a rope in the sand and followed it to the jungle. Sayid saw a wire trap and was careful to avoid it, but he tripped something anyway and was caught in a trap. This was how Sayid met Danielle Rousseau.

After Sayid fixed Danielle's music box, Danielle was very happy and grateful. Sayid decided that this was a good time to ask to be let go, but Danielle didn't want to. Before they could discuss it further, something roared outside and Danielle went out with a rifle to investigate. Sayid was worried that it might be the monster, but Danielle replied, "There's no such thing as monsters".

This was quite in contrast to when she was talking earlier about "the others" and the whispers in the jungle.

Just as Jack was to take his last shot, Hurley started a betting process. A few people bet on Jack, but Sawyer showed up and bet two tubes of sunscreen and a flashlight that he would choke. To make Sawyer feel included, Kate took his bet, and so did Boone, as he needed the sunscreen. We never saw if Jack made his shot or not.

Locke and Ethan brought Hurley some luggage they had found in the jungle, which was how Hurley found the golf equipment. Hurley wanted to know what they were doing in the jungle at night, and Ethan said it was the best time to hunt. Locke added that they had found tracks that had belonged to a rabbit or some other type of rodent. Hurley was less than enthused about eating rodent, but Ethan thought that everyone might be tired of eating boar meat.

Danielle told Sayid her story of how she ended up on the island as Sayid worked on her music box. At first Danielle sounded coherent, but she started losing it as she talked about "the others" and how they whispered. Some sympathy and sadness showed on Sayid's face, which prompted Danielle to say, "You think I'm insane". Sayid shook his head and said, "I think you've been alone for too long". Sayid probably sincerely believed this, but who in their right mind would tell a crazy person that they are crazy in this type of situation anyway?
