Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Whap" - How did Uncle Marty die?

Answer: cut in half after falling partly through a bridge

"Harper's Island" was a murder mystery that aired all over the world as a spring/summer 'filler'. It received criticism due to the graphic nature of the murders that happened in all thirteen episodes.

A young couple (Henry and Trish) took all their close friends and family to an island where the future groom spent some of his younger years with his best friend, Abby. Uncle Marty was one of only two of Henry's family invited to attend the wedding. Too bad he didn't make it past the first night.
2. "Crackle" - How did Lucy (a bridesmaid) die while she was looking for her dog?

Answer: fell into a pit and was set on fire

Many years before, there were several murders on the island, all blamed on one man. Abby's mother was one of the victims. Folks were led to believe that Abby's father, the Sheriff, killed the murderer but Abby believed she had seen him.

Lucy, one of the wedding party guests, went looking for her dog. She fell in a pit and was set on fire. The dog wasn't with her.
3. "Ka-blam" - How did Hunter (the bride's former boyfriend) die?

Answer: shotgun rigged to fire while checking the boat engine

The bride's father, Thomas Wellington, had invited Trish's old boyfriend Hunter to the island so Hunter can persuade Trish not to marry Henry. Hunter realized the wedding was going to go on as planned so he blackmailed Mr. Wellington and got in a boat to leave the island.

He didn't get very far out to sea when the motor died...and so did he.
4. "Bang" - What happened to Booth (a groomsman) when he left the inn to hide some 'found' money?

Answer: accidentally shot himself and bled to death

During the bachelor party, the men found the former boyfriend Hunter, dead from a shotgun blast. He had a bag full of money that he found on the island. The men decided to keep the money and sink the boat with Hunter in it.

Booth had to hide the money and was followed into the woods by Malcolm. Booth accidentally shot himself and Malcolm took the money back to the inn after Booth bled to death.
5. "Thwack" - How did Thomas, the father of the bride, die?

Answer: during the wedding rehearsal, a headspade fell from the chandelier

The Reverend had disappeared and the Sheriff looked for him. Abby went to her father's house and found research her father had gathered on the murderer and realized that her father may not have believed that the murderer was dead.

Everyone gathered at the church for the rehearsal. Thomas walked his daughter down the aisle and when the chandelier lights were turned on, it released a headspade onto Thomas' head.
6. "Sploosh" - How did Richard, Wellington's son-in-law, die?

Answer: harpooned through the chest

The Sheriff locked up J.D., Henry's half-brother and black sheep of the family. Abby and Henry dug up the grave of the killer and found bones, making them believe that he really was dead.

The Sheriff believed Richard Allen may have killed his father-in-law because he was having an affair with Wellington's wife. Richard left the inn to call his lawyer and sploosh, a harpoon flew through the air.
7. "Thrak, Splat, Sizzle" - Malcolm (a groomsman) was with Booth when he died and took the 'found' money back to the inn with him. What happened to Malcolm?

Answer: murdered before being put in an incinerator

Abby found out that her mother once dated the murderer before she married the Sheriff. He went to prison for a long time and when he got out, he found Abby's mother and killed her. Abby's father sent her to the mainland to protect her.

Malcolm was grieving over Booth's death and hiding the money from the other men so he took it to the incinerator to burn it. Someone came up behind him, killed him and put him in the incinerator.
8. "Gurgle" - How did Henry's brother J.D. die?

Answer: stabbed, bled to death

J.D. had been locked up by the Sheriff but he managed to escape. Everyone had gone to the marina to get the heck off the island but the flower girl (Madison) had been abducted and the guests are told she'd be killed if anyone left.

Abby found J.D. bleeding from knife wounds. Before he dies, he said "It's you Abby. It's all about you Abby."
9. "Seep" - How did Katherine (the stepmother of the bride to be) die?

Answer: stabbed with pruning shears

Some of the guests found tunnels under the inn and went looking for the flower girl, Madison. Abby found her and everyone headed back to the inn.

Eventually they all got back together at the inn and tried to wake Katherine. They found that she had bled to death.
10. "Snap" - What happened to Sheriff Mills?

Answer: pulled through a window with a rope around his neck

The few remaining guests tried again to get off the island. Cal, who was engaged to Chloe (a bridesmaid), was wounded by a bullet and was taken to the clinic.

Abby found her father, the Sheriff, waiting for her in her room at the inn. He told her that the murderer was alive and the Sheriff had made a deal with him to save Jimmy. Jimmy was a native of the island and Abby's former boyfriend and, until the Sheriff told her different, it appeared that he was blown away at the marina. Then the Sheriff was pulled through the window with a rope around his neck.
11. "Splash" - What happened to Chloe, one of Trish's bridesmaids, after her fiance Cal was killed?

Answer: jumped off a bridge to her death

Abby came face to face with the spree killer from seven years ago. Their reunion was interrupted and the killer ran off. Some of the guests went to the Sheriff's house to review his research. They began to think that Jimmy, Abby's old beau, might have been the killer's accomplice.

Chloe and Cal found one another but were intercepted by the killer who dispatched Cal. When Chloe saw Cal's fate, she took matters into her own hands.
12. "Gasp" - What happened to Trish?

Answer: knifed to death in her lover's arms

The original spree killer was wounded and then Abby knocked him out with her gun. He was carried off to jail. Trish and Henry went back to the inn, then Henry left to do some investigation. The spree killer showed up and Trish narrowly escaped out her window.

She found Henry and fell into his arms. Henry confessed to her and pulled out a knife.
13. "Sigh" - How did Henry die?

Answer: stabbed with a boarding knife

Henry shot Jimmy while Jimmy was trying to help Abby get away from the spree killer and his accomplice. Abby began to suspect Henry. Henry had a switchblade in his hand and he stepped toward Abby to use it. Instead of getting Abby, he stabbed the spree killer. The killer's last word was "Henry".

Abby figured out that they have been working together. Henry threw her to the ground and knocked her out. When she came to, Henry said all he wanted was Abby and threw the knife over the cliff. Jimmy came to her rescue and he and Henry went over the cliff together. Abby went to Jimmy but stabbed Henry when he approached, he died saying "I love you". Jimmy and Abby were rescued and the story was over.
14. What was the surname of the original spree killer?

Answer: Wakefield

John Wakefield was Henry Dunn's biological father. He was also Abby's father, making Henry Abby's half-brother. But they grew up with different families and didn't know they were related. They played together as kids and there was a hint of romance before they were separated. Most of Wakefield's kills were for revenge or to help out his son, Henry.

Henry's kills were to eventually get Abby alone on the island so they could live out their childhood dream.

Answer: 4

There were thirty-one murders, including two multiple murderers, over thirteen episodes. A few native islanders made it through to the end. If you were keeping track, only four of the main characters survived: Shea (Trish's sister), Madison (the flower girl, Shea's daughter), Jimmy and Abby.
