Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. After an accident in a holosuite, Captain Sisko started having visions and using a painting of a lost city on Bajor, he was able to determine where the city was. In which episode did this occur?

Answer: Rapture

Captain Sisko's visions also enabled him to see into the future, specifically that the Federation would shortly go to war with the Dominion. He therefore encouraged the Bajorans not to join the Federation for the time being. This did not impress Admiral Whatley, who had arrived at the station to conduct the signing ceremony.
2. The Cardassians wanted to return an orb to the Bajorans. When the USS Defiant went to get it, they picked up a passenger, Arne Darvin. Using the Orb of Time, Darvin took them into the past leading to Sisko getting a visit from Temporal Investigations on their return. Was this episode called "The Trouble With Tribbles"?

Answer: No

The episode was entitled "Trials and Tribble-ations" and formed a part of "Star Trek's" 30th anniversary celebrations. The story was able to insert the "DS9" crew into the original series episode "The Trouble With Tribbles", making them appear to be part of original action.
3. Jake found himself under attack from the Klingons realised there was a thin line between a hero and a coward. In which "DS9" episode did Jake Sisko get more than he bargained for when he encouraged Doctor Bashir to answer a distress call from a Federation colony?

Answer: ...Nor The Battle To The Strong

Originally, Jake was trying to write a profile about Doctor Bashir. They were returning to Deep Space Nine from a medical conference when they received the distress signal. Bashir was reluctant to answer it with Jake on board, however Jake convinced him that he would be able to cope. Although, he really felt that a story about being a Doctor in a facility under fire would be more interesting than the profile he had been considering.
4. In which episode did Doctor Lewis Zimmerman and Chief O'Brien discover that Doctor Bashir had been genetically enhanced as a child?

Answer: Doctor Bashir, I Presume

Doctor Lewis Zimmerman was an expert in holo-engineering and had developed the Emergency Medical Hologram (as installed on USS Voyager). He had arrived on DS9 to ascertain how suitable Doctor Bashir was to be the template for the Long-Term Medical Hologram (LMH). When Julian requested that his parents be excluded from the list of interviewees, Zimmerman invited them anyway. Julian's father accidentally told the LMH of his genetically engineered background believing he was actually speaking to Julian.
5. Its name is also used as an episode title in "DS9's" fifth series in which O'Brien led a team to salvage much needed equipment. What was the name of the Cardassian space station of similar design to Deep Space Nine?

Answer: Empok Nor

What could have been a simple salvage operation was significantly more complex as Cardassians routinely booby trapped facilities when they left. In the case of Empok Nor, this included three Cardassians who had been placed in stasis (although one stasis chamber had failed). Another trap turned Garak, who had also joined the away team, from an asset into a very dangerous person to be around!
6. The search is on... for a variety of items including a neodymium power cell and five litres of anaerobic metabolites. In which episode do Jake and Nog trade favours with the senior staff to get things they need with the ultimate aim of cheering up Captain Sisko?

Answer: In The Cards

At an auction held at Quarks, Jake and Nog were hoping to win a bid for an original Willie Mays baseball card to present to Captain Sisko as a gift. Unfortunately, they were outbid although the new owner was prepared to trade it for equipment to help him complete his cellular regeneration and entertainment chamber.
7. When Worf and Garak went to investigate they found a Dominion invasion force and some unexpected prisoners. What were the names of the two episodes in the middle of "DS9's" fifth season in which a coded Cardassian message was received from the Gamma Quadrant?

Answer: "In Purgatory's Shadow" and "By Inferno's Light"

The message had been sent by Enabran Tain, Garak's father, who had been imprisoned following his attack on the Founders homeworld in season 3. Also in the Dominion prison were General Martok and, surprisingly, Doctor Bashir! Could they escape and warn the station?
8. Odo turned parent as Quark acquired an infant changeling. However the Bajoran scientist who 'raised' Odo, Doctor Mora, arrived on the station, much to Odo's annoyance. Which "DS9" episode is being described?

Answer: The Begotten

Odo felt that Doctor Mora had not been the best 'parent' when he was developing and was keen to raise the infant changeling his own way. Specifically, without any of the gadgets and gizmos Doctor Mora had used on him. Things changed, however, when Starfleet demanded progress.
9. General Martok was given his first mission since leaving the Dominion prison camp. Worf and Dax joined him aboard the IKS Rotarran but soon realise that the crew had not experienced victory in some time. They also question whether Martok was up for the job. In which episode did this occur?

Answer: Soldiers Of The Empire

The crew were demoralised as a result of the amount of recent defeats to the Jem'Hadar. When Worf was presented with the Rotarran's battle log, he commented "It is clear to me that none of you are worthy of my blood or my life, but I will stand for you."

Ultimately, Worf had to judge Martok's ability to command the ship. Could he kill his friend to accomplish the mission?

10. Unfortunately, Ishka was not expecting Quark's visit and we therefore see the humorous sight of Grand Nagus Zek and Maihar'du hiding in Quark's wardrobe! Unknown to Quark, his mother and the Nagus had fallen in love! In which episode does Quark return to Ferenginar to see his mother?

Answer: Ferengi Love Songs

The next person to 'arrive' in Quark's wardrobe was Liquidator Brunt. He offered Quark a deal to reinstate his business licence if Quark could split up Ishka and Zek. This seemed like a good deal for DS9's bartender, until he realised that the Nagus was experiencing memory problems and that his mother was helping the Nagus control the whole economy.
