Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Dr. Crusher instructs the Enterprise computer to assume that she is not insane.

Answer: "Remember Me"

In this episode, Dr. Crusher's world is rapidly becoming depopulated, with a growing number of people simply disappearing off the Enterprise. Unfortunately, no one else seems to notice; In fact, no one except the doctor believes that the missing people ever existed. Eventually she is left all alone, with only the Enterprise computer to help her try to rationalize and solve this terrifying situation.
2. Data outwits the Enterprise security team by erecting force fields that turn on and off as he passes, keeping them out of his way.

Answer: "Brothers"

Data is not in control of himself, having received a signal that is compelling him to disembark from the Enterprise at a remote planet. The planet is home to Data's creator, Dr. Soong, who wishes to give Data something that he has always wanted. Unfortunately, someone else also crashes this family reunion, with tragic consequences.
3. The Captain informs Worf and Data that he has passed them both over for the role of First Officer.

Answer: "The Best of Both Worlds, Pt. II"

Of course, "The Captain" at this point in the story is Will Riker, who has just received a battlefield commission due to Picard's abduction by the Borg. Patrick Stewart was on the verge of leaving the show due to contractual issues, so the previous season's finale was altered to give him "a way out" in this manner. Riker chooses Commander Shelby (a visiting officer and tactical expert in Borg matters) as his acting First Officer over Data and Worf.
4. A man puts a phaser in Riker's hand, and then forces Riker to shoot him in the chest.

Answer: "First Contact"

The Enterprise is monitoring a civilization on the verge of using its first Warp Drive, and makes preparations to initiate first contact with that civilization. Riker is sent down for some reconnaissance, but gets caught up in a riot and is taken to a hospital, where his true identity is eventually discovered.

The planet's minister of security, who wishes to prevent his government from forming relations with any aliens, attempts to frame Riker for murder.
5. Reg Barclay discusses physics with Albert Einstein.

Answer: "The Nth Degree"

After being hit with some sort of energy burst from an alien probe, Reg Barclay begins to develop super-human intelligence. The normally shy and awkward officer also rapidly becomes self-confident to the point of arrogance, distancing himself from the crew and from his own humanity.

At one point he recreates Albert Einstein in the Holodeck to discuss fundamental physics, and amazes Einstein with the possibility of there being 26 dimensions instead of just 10. Yup.
6. Two visitors beam off the Enterprise. One of them intends to commit suicide. Picard knows this, but allows them to go anyway.

Answer: "Half a Life"

In what is by far the strongest (or least weak, depending on your perspective) of Lwaxana Troi's episodes, she falls in love with another visitor on the Enterprise - a scientist on the verge of a discovery that could save his people. Unfortunately, he is also about to turn 60, and his people's traditions demand that he commit ritual suicide. Lwaxana is torn between her desire to protect her newfound lover's life, and her respect for his culture.
7. Dr. Crusher brings one of her experiments to the Captain's Ready Room.

Answer: "Clues"

The entire crew of the Enterprise, except Data, experiences a bizarre 30-second period of unconsciousness, supposedly caused by some random space anomaly. However, Dr. Crusher notices that the specimens in one of her experiments show 24 hours' worth of growth. And yet Data is absolutely adamant that the lapse only lasted for 30 seconds. Hmmm.
8. A Federation official attempts to obtain restricted information from Data.

Answer: "Data's Day"

The official is a Vulcan ambassador, on her way to a hush-hush mission near the Neutral Zone. Her behavior is not atypical for a Vulcan, but both she and Picard are so cryptic about the mission that the entire crew becomes uneasy. In fact, even Data, the emotionless android, catches himself tapping nervously on a command console! This episode is narrated by Data and shown entirely from his perspective, encompassing one day of his life.
9. The viewscreen displays long-range sensor readings of a Federation cruiser doing combat with two other ships, and destroying both of them.

Answer: "The Wounded"

The Federation ship is the USS Phoenix, commanded by Captain Maxwell, who was Chief O'Brien's superior officer during the war with the Cardassians. Now that the war is over, it seems that Maxwell has gone rogue and is attempting to take revenge on Cardassian ships out in deep space.

The Phoenix attacks a Cardassian supply vessel as well as its armed escort, destroying them both, while the Enterprise bridge officers watch the battle on their sensors, powerless to stop it.
10. Picard and two other men each have a go at stabbing a dead body in the chest with electrical prods.

Answer: "Reunion"

Before the Chancellor of the Klingon High Council finally dies due to slow poisoning, he manages to appoint Picard as the Arbiter of Succession - the man who will choose the next Chancellor out of two possible candidates. Before this can be done however, Klingon custom demands that Picard and the two contenders - Duras and Gowron - prod the Chancellor's body with electrified rods to make sure that he is really dead.
11. Seeing a Romulan Warbird decloaking on the viewscreen, Riker orders "shields up!", but all of the other officers on the bridge give him confused looks instead.

Answer: "Future Imperfect"

Riker gets these confused looks because the Romulans are now allies of the Federation, and the Romulan ship in question is carrying Admiral Picard. Does that sound weird to you? It does to Riker, who has suddenly found himself decades into this strange "future", apparently suffering from severe amnesia, and in command of the Enterprise.
12. Geordi and Data explain how the warp core suffered an explosion due to undetectable flaws in its casing.

Answer: "The Drumhead"

Though technobabble is often meaningless in "Star Trek", in this case it is extremely crucial to the plot, because the Enterprise crew had previously suspected that the core exploded due to sabotage. In fact, one Klingon exchange officer has already been arrested on board, and a Starfleet officer is now facing court-martial as an accomplice.
13. A Klingon governor blames the Enterprise for attempting to smuggle weapons down to the planet. He's technically right.

Answer: "The Mind's Eye"

Geordi La-Forge, the Enterprise's Chief Engineer, beams a crate full of weapons to the rebels down on a Klingon-controlled planet, but the crate is captured by local Klingon security forces. Why would Geordi do something that could cause a serious diplomatic incident between the Federation and the Klingons? Well, just ask yourself who would benefit from such an incident.
14. Several dozen crew-members line a hallway of the Enterprise to honor one of their officers who is leaving the ship.

Answer: "Redemption, Pt. I"

Worf is leaving the Enterprise to go serve on Gowron's ship in the Klingon Civil War. Worf, decked out in a Klingon uniform, is surprised to see all of these crew members coming to honor his service and to wish him farewell. Will he make it out alive? Will the Klingon Empire restore order under its newly-appointed Chancellor? Stay tuned for season 5!
15. Name the episode in which Picard runs into a very short "highwayman" on the road.

Answer: Family

Picard is visiting his brother's family in France, in an attempt to come to terms with his recent assimilation by the Borg. The "highwayman" that accosts him is Picard's nephew, Rene, who was simply coming to check out the strange man approaching the family grounds. Picard shows an uncharacteristically playful attitude towards Rene by pretending that the boy is actually a robber, effectively breaking the ice between these two close relatives who have probably never met before.
