Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Kate Mulgrew was eventually chosen for the role of Captain Kathryn Janeway. However, she was only cast as Janeway after this person decided that the captain's job was a little much for her. Who was first cast as Captain Janeway?

Answer: Genevieve Bujold

This information can be found in a couple of the "Star Trek" magazines, and also on Disc 6 of "Star Trek: Voyager First Season" DVD set (in the Special Features). I have heard a rumor that Stephanie Beecham was asked to play Janeway first after Bujold decided against it, but I cannot confirm that rumor one way or the other. Marina Sirtis played Counseler Deanna Troi in both "The Next Generation" and "Voyager", and Suzie Plakson played a few different characters in 3 of the 5 "Star Trek" series, including the female Q in "The Q and the Grey" episode of "Voyager".
2. What is Chakotay's tribe named?

Answer: We never find out.

Interestingly enough, we go through the whole series without finding out what Chakotay's specific tribe is called. We do know that they are a Native American people, and Chakotay is a descendent of the Ancient Rubber Tree people, but that is all. Chamozi is "a blessing to the land in the form of an ancient healing symbol." Most of this information is found in the "Star Trek: Voyager Companion" and in various episodes.
3. Who plays the character of Tuvix?

Answer: Tom Wright

Tom Wright is chosen for this highly difficult job. He had to study both characters (Tuvok AND Neelix) and learn how to merge the two together into one. He played the part very well.
4. There were times during "Voyager's" run that allowed them to bring in characters from previous series. One example is Quark at DS9 during "Caretaker". When is the next time we see a character from a previous series?

Answer: "Projections"

I bet a lot of you thought it was going to be "Death Wish" because of the appearances by Q and Riker; however, "Projections" showed us Lt. Barclay, who was a recurring character in "The Next Generation", appeared during this episode, and then later on, for real, in the later seasons as Voyager began to communicate with Earth.
5. Which main "Voyager" actor/actress first appeared in any "Star Trek" series, before being cast in "Voyager" as a regular?

Answer: Ethan Phillips

All of the choices, except Kate Mulgrew, have appeared in "Star Trek" before landing their roles on "Voyager". Ethan Phillips played Dr. Farek in "TNG's" "Ménage à Troi", which was the first "Star Trek" role played by any main "Voyager" actor.
6. In what episode does the Doctor receive his mobile emitter?

Answer: "Future's End, Part II"

Henry Starling gives the Doctor the mobile emitter that he (Starling) stole from the 29th century timeship in order to keep the Doctor close in case of a trap.
7. The futuristic Borg drone in "Drone" was created from a combination of the Doctor's mobile emitter, Seven's Borg nanoprobes, and humanoid DNA.

Answer: True

The Doctor's mobile emitter was malfunctioning after a transport, so Torres took it to the science lab. However, the mobile emitter somehow sprouted Borg implants, and then later attacked a unsuspecting crewman who walked in. The result was One, a futuristic Borg.

Yikes, that Borg drone could have been very scary. I'm glad he was on our side.
8. In the episode "In the Flesh", we see Starfleet Headquarters, the famous Boothby, and other places nearby Starfleet HQ; however, Voyager is still in the Delta Quadrant! How can this be?! What was actually going on?

Answer: Species 8472 were training for a reconnaissance mission to Earth.

While we could easily believe it was one of Q's elaborate tricks, this time it wasn't. It was Species 8472 preparing for an attack from Earth, but beating them to the punch. And what was more, the one that we visited was one of a dozen spread across the quadrant.
9. In "Relativity", this captain attempts to sabotage Voyager, so he does not have to fix all of Captain Janeway's temporal violations.

Answer: Braxton

In this time travel episode, this episode shows us the headaches of temporal mechanics. Captain Braxton aboard the Timeship Relativity doesn't realize that it is his future self sabotaging Voyager in the past. What's more, when everything is sorted out, there are three Braxtons in captivity. One that was captured from present-day Voyager (fifth season-era), one from three years in Voyager's past (second season-era), and one from the Timeship Relativity's present-day (approximately 29th century).
10. Rounded to the nearest ten, approximately how many time frames is Voyager "Shattered" into during that episode?

Answer: 40

The actual number is 37 (according to the "Star Trek: Voyager Companion" and the episode itself). The number of time periods we see on-screen is 10, but we are told that the number is close to or at 37. Of course, we can't see every area of the ship in the one-hour allowed for the episode
