Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. This mystery revolves around the murder of Sonia Baker. Which other victim is killed in the opening minutes of the drama?

Answer: Kelvin Stagg

Kelvin Stagg was a 15 year old bag snatcher. He stole the hitman's bag and discovered that Sonia was the target. His phone call to warn her is what tips people off that the murders are related. The production team was unhappy with how they originally shot the scene of his murder.

The scene shown in the series was reshot later when a photogenic kid was spotted by the team and asked how he would like to be killed in a TV show.
2. What is not true about Sonia Baker?

Answer: She was an American.

Sonia Baker was a researcher for Stephen Collins. Her affair became obvious after Stephen broke down at a press conference about her death. He later admitted it on tape to her family. The fact that she was a spy working in his office becomes a key component to solving the mystery. Her pregnancy is only learned later.
3. What committee is MP Stephen Collins head of?

Answer: Energy

Stephen Collins is portrayed as the rising star in British politics. His work on the energy committee is very well regarded, and he is seen as potential cabinet pick. This is why Sonia was placed in his office, as a spy for U-EX Oil. He is also protected by other members of the government.
4. How does Cal McCaffrey know Stephen Collins so well?

Answer: He was Stephen's campaign manager.

Cal McCaffrey now works for the Herald, working to solve the mystery of who killed Sonia Baker. He tells Stephen's wife, Anne, that organizing Stephen's life gave him a lot of insight. This connection allows Cal a lot of insider knowledge and exclusive interviews with Stephen. Stephen even stays with Cal early in the series.
5. Who was behind the anonymous tip that Stephen Collins was leaving his wife?

Answer: Dominic Foy

Dominic was a good friend of Sonia Baker. He helped U-EX Oil pick her for the spot to spy on the Energy Committee. While he initially signed the fax as "A Well-Wisher", free-lance reporter, Dan Foster, tracked him down from a public fax center.
6. Who was behind the car following Dominic Foy?

Answer: Cal McCaffrey

Dominic was not telling the Herald team all he knew. So Cal hired someone to follow him to scare him into thinking the police suspected him. Della Smith helped to continue the charade by helping Dominic lose the tail.
7. Why was Cal arrested?

Answer: He refused to name a source.

Cal learned early on from Kelvin Stagg's brother, Sonny, about the hitman's briefcase. Sonny did set up a meeting with Kelvin's girlfriend to get the briefcase but only on condition that she remain anonymous. Cal later reveals his true motivation is to take the focus off of Della as a witness to who burgled her apartment.
8. Why did Cameron Foster lose editing control of the murder story?

Answer: He accused the government of gagging the Herald.

Cal was the man having the affair with Anne Collins. Cameron was told by his bosses to be nice to the government. When the story got too big, Cameron decided he had to print the story. The first page reads in bold print, "The story we can't show you." The second page reads, "Because Westminster has gagged us".

The third page has, "Ask U-Ex Oil why". The fourth is "Ask your MP why". Cameron's scanned signature is also there. Bill Nighy won the BAFTA award for Best Actor for his portrayal of Cameron.
9. Why did Stephen choose Sonia to be his researcher?

Answer: Stephen's secretary picked Sonia.

Stephen and Sonia's affair only began after she was hired. In fact, he admits he was leaning toward another candidate, but he trusted the judgment of his secretary, Greer Thornton. Greer later admitted that it was George Fergus who was behind the pick. A quick look at the other candidates proved that Sonia was the least qualified applicant.
10. Who hired the hitman that killed Sonia?

Answer: Stephen Collins

Stephen gave himself away by revealing to Cal too much information that he should not have known. Stephen learned she was a spy when he overheard a phone message from Paul Canning, the main lobbyist of U-EX Oil. He initially hired Robert Bingham to spy on Sonia. When Bingham suggested killing her, Stephen claims that he told Bingham, "no".
