"The Harvest" was the second episode of the series. Luke was the Master's vessel so that he might regain enough strength to break free of his underground prison. Brian Thompson played Luke. He'd go on to play The Judge in season two.

Answer: First Date

In this episode Buffy sought out some normalcy in the form of teenage dating. Owen Thurman was a handsome, smart, and thoughtful young man. Of course, being new to mixing business and pleasure, Buffy's life as a slayer almost got Owen killed. This episode also proved to be the longest episode title in the entire series. Christopher Wiehl played Owen.

Answer: The Hellmouth

Joyce and Buffy moved from Los Angeles to Sunnydale to start anew. Joyce was opening an art gallery and Buffy promised not to get kicked out of school. Buffy balked at her slayer duties after she met Giles, but felt her calling kick in when a student was found dead in a locker. Darla was the first villain seen on screen, and she'd killed the boy in the opening moments of the series. Julie Benz played Darla on both "Buffy" and "Angel".

Sunnydale (and apparently Cleveland) sat atop a hellmouth.

Answer: Witch

Though it was clearly not going to mesh well with her role as a slayer, Buffy was just trying to stay normal. She tried several times over that first season to be her old self. When we first saw Amy, she was inside her mom's body. Catherine Madison wanted her cheerleader glory days back, so she switched their bodies. In the end, Amy got her own body back, and Catherine ended up trapped in a trophy inside the trophy case at school. Elizabeth Anne Allen played the real Amy. Buffy's cheerleading outfit would make a return in season seven.

Answer: Angel

The pair was getting closer, and finally they kissed. Angel, having lost control, showed his vampire face to her and she freaked out. The episode pitted Darla against Angel and Buffy, with Angel killing Darla to save Buffy's life. Angel and Darla's backstory was further explored on "Angel" a few years later.

Answer: Nightmares

Billy Palmer had been brutalized by his baseball coach and lapsed into a coma. His mind, desperate to find solace, kept trying to get away from "the ugly man". Being a hellmouth, that nightmare energy was transformed into reality. The Master was freed and he turned Buffy into a vampire. Buffy helped Billy face the monster, and reality shifted back. Jeremy Foley played Billy. We also met Hank Summers, the ultimate absentee father, in this episode.

Answer: The Pack

The zookeeper in charge of the hyenas had been trying to perform a ritual of animal trans-possession. He wanted to possess the hyena spirit. Instead, it was accidentally put into the students. Before the spell was reversed, four of the students ate Principal Flutie. This opened the door for a new character, Principal Snyder. Ken Lerner played Mr. Flutie.

Answer: The Puppet Show

Sid had once been human, but was now a dummy. Morgan, a kid dying from brain cancer, was in possession of the ventriloquist dummy and used Sid to try out for the talent show. If Sid could kill this last demon, he'd also be able to die and be free. At first, Sid thought Buffy might be the demon because she was so strong. Buffy thought Sid might be the killer.

They ended up working together, with Giles and the Scoobies, to figure it out. Tom Wyner was the voice of Sid, Rich Werner played Morgan, and Burke Roberts played Marc, the real killer.

Answer: Teacher's Pet

The demon killed their Biology teacher, Dr. Gregory. He was one teacher who'd really liked Buffy, and had encouraged her not to give up. After she killed him, she masqueraded as Natalie French in order to be a substitute teacher. She was looking for young male virgins to fertilize her eggs. Gross. Buffy saw her turn her head around a full 360 degrees, and realized she might be an insect. Buffy located Xander and Blayne in time to save their lives. Jackson Price (sometimes credited as Price Jackson) played Blayne. Musetta Vander played the preying mantis.

Answer: Prophecy Girl

Buffy overheard Giles telling Angel that she was destined to die at the Master's hands. She instantly rejected her slayer duties. But, in the end, heroes do what they must, and Buffy did face the Master. He drank from her, and then dropped her into a pool of water.

She drowned, and Xander saved her life. Afterward, she hunted the Master down at the school and killed him. Mark Metcalf played the Master.
