The brothers were hunting a grigori, a watcher angel. This powerful angel had been feeding on people, including Claire's mother, Amelia. The grigori was feeding on human souls, keeping the humans prisoner, and in a dream state, similar to what the djinn did to Dean while feeding on him during "What Is and What Should Never Be," during season 2. Claire killed the grigori, but the creature killed Amelia first.

In "Angel Heart," Cas gave Claire a stuffed "Grumpy Cat" in a birthday bag for her eighteenth birthday. She did not seem thrilled with the gift, but she kept it. At the end of the episode, the girl hugged Cas before she left to crash at Sheriff Mills' home.

Dean and Claire made up during the episode, after previous encounters where he killed her friend (the creep who manipulated her to steal and set her up to be raped), and she set Dean up to be killed. During "Angel Heart," Dean spent time alone with the girl, playing miniature golf, researching for the case, and bringing her with him on the hunt.

He took the gun back at the end of the episode, but gave her a copy of the movie "Caddyshack" and a lore book. He also allowed her to keep the sword she had taken after the fight with the grigori.

Sam called in Charlie to help decode the codex, so that Rowena could use it to translate the Book of the Damned and find the spell to remove the Mark of Cain. He also called in Cas to keep order among Charlie and Rowena.

The clash of personalities between Charlie and Rowena made for some entertaining dialogue during "Dark a Dynasty." Rowena was not pleased when she told Sam she did not need "an assistant," and Sam replied that, "Charlie is not your assistant. You're hers." She then asked where Charlie trained, and when Charlie mentioned a coffee shop that had great wi fi, she said she had not heard of it and she knew "all the great global centers of witchcraft." Charlie replied, "Makes sense, because I'm not a witch. I'm a nerd. And I know all the great centers of nerddom."

Answer: Leading an army and winning a war

After Rowena recited her list, and Charlie still insisted they were "quite different," Rowena told Charlie,"I'm sure you're learning the line between good and evil is quite flexible. But we part company when it comes to blind devotion. Case in point: The Winchesters. You've made them the family you don't have. Foolish!" Charlie replied that, "Sam and Dean are like my brothers. I love them." Rowena then said, "I know. And that steadfast loyalty will be your undoing, my girl."

Answer: Charlie

Charlie snuck away from Cas so she could work on deciphering the codex. At a motel, she was able to figure it out and send the file to Sam. The file's name was "For Dean," the pledge she, Cas and Sam had made when they agreed to keep working on deciphering the Book of the Damned.

The Stynes tracked her down, though, and killed her. Sam and Dean ran to her rescue too late, and discovered her body in the bathtub of the motel room.

Rowena called Cas "Feathers" in "Brother's Keeper." "Hot Wings" was a nickname that Benny used for Cas during season 8, while the vampire and Angel were with Dean in Purgatory.

Rowena had fun taunting Cas in the last few episodes of season 10. For instance, in "The Prisoner," she said, "You're just fascinating. An angel that rejected Heaven. That's like a fish that wants to fly, or a dog that thinks he's people." When Sam later indicated to Cas that Rowena would need to be killed, Cas said, "I'd be happy to kill her. She just called me a fish."

Shreveport, the third largest city in Louisiana, was presented as the home base for Monroe Styne and his family. He lived in a mansion. The building at the high school was named for the Stynes. The sheriff did Monroe's bidding by trumping up charges and arresting Dean. And, the sheriff told Dean that "the Stynes own this town.

They're practically gods around here." Dean replied, "I kill gods."

Answer: Because Crowley allowed it

The confrontation when Sam tried to kill Crowley was intense. Sam told Crowley that the demon was responsible for everything that had happened, including Dean having the Mark of Cain. And, he reminded him of all the people Sam loved who Crowley had killed.

He said, "You have the accent and the suit and the snark, but at the end of it - you are a monster, just like all the rest of them. And I'm going to watch you die. Screaming. Just like all the rest of them." Crowley agreed he was a monster, and said he had loved all the evil he had done.

He then removed the devil's trap bullet and incinerated the hex bag that Rowena had made for Sam to use. He flung Sam through glass, waved away the demon killing knife, and then was about to snap his fingers. With his hand poised, he said, "I could kill you. Snap my fingers. Easiest thing in the world. From here on, I want you to know that the only reason you're alive is because I allowed it."

Dean killed over fifteen Stynes, three in the surgery room and more than a dozen upstairs in the Styne mansion. He then caught up with Eldon at the bunker. Eldon bragged about his "new upgrades," still thinking he could beat Dean. Dean told him that his family in Louisiana was dead.

He then said, "so you can save me the speech on the three hearts, the two spleens, the seven nipples for the ladies - or the fellas - I don't judge. But even with all that - you still only have one brain." He then shot him in the head and killed him.

Answer: Vampires

Rudy, the hunter who each of the brothers had spoken to on the phone in season 10 episodes, appeared in person in "Brother's Keeper." He was working a case, searching for a vampire that killed a girl, and he called Dean in on the case. Dean, affected by the Mark of Cain, was hostile to the local police, the victim's parents, and to Rudy, and ended up allowing Rudy to be killed so he could kill one if the vampires that was using Rudy as a shield.

The scene was reminiscent of the scene in "The Man Who Knew Too Much," in season 5, when soulless Sam killed a girl that the monster was using as a shield.

Answer: Forbidden Fruit, Golden Calf, and Rowena's heart

It was Crowley who gathered the items for the spell in "Brother's Keeper." Rowena's heart meant that she had to sacrifice something she loved. Crowley brought a child she loved 300 years ago for the sacrifice. In addition to those three items, the spell also required Dean's hair, which Sam provided. Sam left Cas with Rowena to do the spell while he went after his brother.

When Cas asked for his help, Crowley said, "I gave at the office. Maybe I'd feel a little differently if Sam Winchester hadn't just tried to bloody kill me!" He then told Cas to "beg" him. Cas then asked him to help, and Crowley agreed to gather the items. He also told Cas that the forbidden fruit was a quince, not an apple.

Answer: Darkness

After Rudy was killed, Dean summoned Death and asked him to kill him. Death said he could not be killed with the Mark on his arm. So, Dean asked him to remove the Mark of Cain. Death told him he would not do so, because the Mark was a lock, and if it was removed, then the Darkness would be released on earth.

Instead, he agreed to put Dean someplace far from earth where he could not hurt anyone. But, he required that Sam be killed, because Sam would never stop trying to bring Dean back. Dean was desperate and had given up (Death said he had "knocked over his King"), and he called Sam. But, when he was about to kill his brother, Sam reminded him about family and his faith in him, and gave him the pictures of them as children with their mother, which Sam had been carrying around since the bunker was vandalized.

He told Dean they would help him "remember what it was to be good. What it was to love." He got through to Dean, and Dean killed Death, rather than Sam. Rowena then did the spell, the Mark was removed, and the Darkness was released.
