"If You Want Blood (You've Got It)" played while clips of previous episodes brought viewers up to speed at the beginning of "First Blood." "Carry on Wayward Son" is the unofficial anthem for the show, used for the season finale "road so far" segment in every season except season 1 (when it was played for the "road so far" segment of the penultimate season episode). "Highway to Hell" was played in "Pilot," and "Rock of Ages" was played in "Bloody Mary."

When Crowley said he did not know where the brothers were, Cas pointed out that Crowley had "people in the government." Crowley replied that "whatever's happened to moose and squirrel, apparently it's above their pay grade." Crowley proceeded to remind Castiel how many times the brothers had survived when up against "more powerful beings." He said, "Sam and Dean? They're like herpes. Just when you think they're gone - hello; the boys are back, leaving a trail of bodies in their wake. So, wherever they are, whoever has Sam and Dean, well, in the immortal words of Lawrence Tero, 'I pity the fool!'" Lawrence Tero is the real name of Mr. T, and Crowley did a fair impression of the former "The A-Team" actor when he delivered the line.

Answer: They made a deal with Billie.

After two months in solitary confinement, Dean called Billie, the reaper. She spoke to him, and then spoke to Sam. She agreed to kill them and bring them back, allowing them to escape, but only if one of the Winchesters agreed to die for good at midnight.

The brothers agreed, so that one of them would be able to keep fighting. After they escaped and met up with Cas and Mary, Billie came to collect her Winchester at midnight. Mary attempted to sacrifice herself to save her sons, but Castiel killed Billie, refusing to allow Billie to take any of the Winchesters.

Answer: a failure to communicate

Dean attempted to get the soldiers to back off and let them go - for the soldiers own good. The leader of the soldiers refused, telling Dean, "You can't run forever. You're trapped out here." Dean replied (quoting a classic line from "Cool Hand Luke"), "Well, what we have here is a failure to communicate." He continued, "Because we're not trapped out here with you. You're trapped out here with us."

Answer: "We're the guys who saved the world."

While holding guns on the two men after disarming and immobilizing all their soldiers, Sam told them, "You want the truth? The President was possessed - by the Devil. We saved his life. That's the truth." Dean added, "Now you can take that and do what you want with it, but if you come after us? You know what will happen." The brothers then walked away, with Sam responding to the question of who they were without ever slowing down or turning around.

Answer: Human

Lily was a human. She was hunting and killing the angels who killed her daughter. Castiel was one of those angels. Cas, however, did not realize her daughter had been a human. His fellow angel, Isham had become obsessed with Lily. When she refused him, he told his fellow angels that her daughter was a nephilim, the product of her and an angel with whom she was living.

The angels then helped him kill both the angel helping her and her daughter. Isham had killed her daughter to hurt her. Lily then gave up parts of her soul for the knowledge and power to avenge her daughter.

Answer: jelly beans and G strings

Dean told Sam he was not angry with Castiel for killing Billie. Instead, he was "grateful" to Cas for saving the brothers and Mary. But, he was concerned about what would happen "when the other shoe drops."

Answer: Nobody

After Lily told the Winchesters that Isham had killed her human daughter, Dean went to tell Cas. Isham confronted Cas and Dean, and a fight ensued. Sam and Lily provided reinforcements. After Isham had knocked away both brothers, Lily attempted to stop him with her power. Castiel was then able to kill him. Castiel apologized to her, and Dean told her she needed to be done with her revenge.

She let Castiel live, and the brothers let her leave. Later, the brothers and Cas discussed the nephilim that Lucifer had spawned, the huge power the child would have, and the dilemma that they would be dealing with a mother and child when they found Kelly.

Answer: The Devil baby mama drama

When the brothers met in the restaurant, Sam thought his brother just had a hangover. He mentioned the search for Kelly, and got a blank look from Dean. He then reminded him of the "mother of Lucifer's love child," and Dean said, "Yes, the Devil baby mama drama. Say that five times fast!" He then proceeded to repeat it.

Answer: Witches

The brothers were hunting witches. They confirmed that after examining the body of the money manager, and discovered a hex bag had been inside the corpse. Soon thereafter, Sam realized that Dean had been hexed and his brother was losing his memory.

Answer: Bon Jovi

After Dean forgot his own name, which key would start the car, and how to back out of a parking spot, Sam was convinced his brother was in trouble, and figured he had been hexed. Dean was hard to convince, though. So, Sam told him to name all the members of Bon Jovi.

The only one Dean was able to name was Bon Jovi (Jon Bon Jovi). He then tried to prove he was fine by naming items in the room, but got stuck on "lamp."

Answer: "Broomstick Cowboy" by Bobby Goldsboro

"Broomstick Cowboy" was the perfect accompaniment to a montage of Dean riding the bull and reacting to his surroundings without the weight of his memories. The elder Winchester seemed years younger, smiling and innocent, taking pleasure in cartoons, honor bar alcohol, and discovering he was a hero.

Answer: The Colt

Mary stole the Colt from the safe in the basement of the Ramiel's house. She then turned it over to the British Men of Letters, not telling her sons anything. This was the first sign of the Colt since season 5 - when Dean tried unsuccessfully to kill Lucifer with it - and season 6, when Sam and Dean went back in time and used it to kill a Phoenix. Through a flashback in this episode, viewers learned Crowley had picked it up, probably after Dean dropped it in "Abandon All Hope" in season 5, and then had given both the Colt and Michael's lance to Ramiel, a Prince of Hell. Ramiel then told Crowley to be the new King of Hell, since he and the other princes did not want the job.

This explained how Crowley went from being the King of the Crossroads in season 5 to the King of Hell in season 6.

Answer: True

In "Stuck in the Middle (with You)," the brothers learned that the demon that killed their parents, Azazel, had been a Prince of Hell. The Princes of Hell were the first generation of demons after Lilith, and they were turned by Lucifer, himself. There had been four princes, "trained to lead demon armies in the war against Heaven." Azazel was killed by Dean in "All Hell Breaks Loose, Part II." Ramiel was killed by Sam in "Stuck in the Middle (with You)." That left two more of the yellow-eyed princes in existence by the end of this episode: Asmodeus and Dagon.

Answer: The Dukes of Haphazard

At the end of the episode, it was revealed that Crowley had Lucifer caged up. And, viewers were treated to a bit of deja vu, as Lucifer explained why Crowley should be on his side, rather than the Winchesters. Back in "Abandon All Hope," the Devil had made a similar pitch to Castiel.

This time, his pitch to Crowley was, "I still can't believe you're working with the Dukes of Haphazard. Do you really think they care about you? I mean, think about it, Crowley. They kill your kind. It's in their blood. And you know - you know - it's only a matter of time before they come for you." The last part was delivered in a creepy sing-song voice.
