This song plays in 'Folsom Prison Blues' as the boys walk into the county jail and Dean assures Sam he won't sell him for smokes. "Green Onions" was released in August 1962 and ranks on the "Rolling Stone: 500 Greatest Songs of All Time" at #181.

Answer: 'Mystery Spot'

"Heat of the Moment" plays multiple times in the episode 'Mystery Spot' as Sam wakes up on Tuesday over and over again. Dean insists that Sam loves the song. Sam ironically replies with, "Yeah, and if I ever hear it again, I'm going to kill myself." The track was the first single released by Asia in April 1982.

Answer: 'Simon Said'

This ballad is played in 'Simon Said' when Jo chooses it on the jukebox. Dean questions Jo's selection, but later is singing it in the Impala, claiming it's stuck in his head. "Can't Fight This Feeling" was released in the US in December 1984 and was REO's second number one hit on the US charts.

Answer: 'Nightshifter'

"Renegade" plays at the end of the episode 'Nightshifter' as the boys flee the bank dressed as SWAT team members. The song pauses as Dean pronounces, "We are so screwed." Released in 1978, "Renegade" reached #16 on the "Billboard Hot 100".

Answer: 'Free to Be You and Me'

In 'Free to Be You and Me', this song plays as we see a montage of Sam and Dean during their self-imposed separation: Dean hunting solo and Sam working as a bar-back. "Simple Man" was released in August 1973 and has been covered multiple times, recently in 2004 by the band Shinedown.

Answer: 'No Exit'

With Dean, Sam, Ellen and Jo riding back to the Roadhouse in the Impala, "Cold As Ice" comes on the radio at the conclusion of 'No Exit'. Ellen, in the true spirit of the song, switches it off immediately, forcing the quartet to ride back in silence. The song was released in July 1977 and hit number six on the US charts.

Answer: 'Devil's Trap'

As Sam, Dean and John rush to the hospital in the Impala at the end of 'Devil's Trap', this song plays on the car radio. A truck suddenly crashes into the car, forcing it off the road. Season one ends with the song playing over the sight of the three men unconscious and bloody.

It continues in 'My Time of Dying', the season two opener. "Bad Moon Rising" was released by CCR in May 1969 and hit #2 on the "Billboard Hot 100". The song was so popular, Sonic Youth even named their 1985 album after it.

Answer: 'No Rest For the Wicked'

"Bon Jovi rocks, on occasion." Dean declares before he and Sam belt out some car karaoke in 'No Rest for the Wicked'. Just as Sam gets into the sing-a-long, the lyrics hit home for Dean because of the deal he made with the crossroads demon. Bon Jovi released "Wanted Dead or Alive" in 1987 from the 'Slippery When Wet' album, the first hard rock album to have three top ten singles on it.

Answer: 'Pilot' and 'Bloodlust'

Through the first four seasons, "Back in Black" has been used twice in the series. The first is in the 'Pilot' episode when Sam is ribbing Dean for his cassette tape collection. The second is in episode 'Bloodlust' after Dean had to rebuild his beloved Impala because of the crash in 'Devil's Trap'. AC/DC released "Back in Black" in July 1980 from the album of the same name. It was the first AC/DC album recorded with lead singer Brian Johnson, after their former lead singer, Bon Scott, died in February 1980.

Answer: 'Yellow Fever'

Any fan worth their salt remembers the notorious "Supernatural Presents: Jensen Ackles" doing "Eye of the Tiger" while on the Impala. In addition to Jensen's famous lip syncing goof, the song was also used in the episode 'Yellow Fever'. Dean is drumming along to the song in the car, too scared to go up to the fourth floor hotel room. Survivor released the tune in May 1982.

The song became ubiquitous in the eighties after it was used in the movie "Rocky III".
