Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In both the TV show "Dexter" and the series of novels by Jeff Lindsay, how does Dexter refer to his urge to kill?

Answer: Dark Passenger

"I just know there's something dark in me and I hide it. I certainly don't talk about it, but it's there always, this Dark Passenger. And when he's driving, I feel alive, half sick with the thrill of complete wrongness." - Dexter describing his urge in the season 2 episode, "An Inconvenient Lie".
2. The TV series "True Blood" has deviated greatly from Charlaine Harris' Southern Vampire books. The main villain from season 2 was hardly mentioned in the books. What was the name of the evil maenad played by Michelle Forbes?

Answer: Maryann

Harris is not very involved in the production of the show, but I wish the creator, Alan Ball, would adhere more to the plot lines conceived in the books. Maryann and Tara are two of my least favorite additions.
3. "Homicide: Life on the Street" was adapted from David Simon's book, "Homicide: A Year on the Killing Streets." In what city do both take place?

Answer: Baltimore

Richard Belzer's character from "Homicide", Detective John Munch, has guest-starred on several shows including "The Wire", "30 Rock", "Arrested Development", and "The X-Files." Belzer, as Munch, joined the cast of "Law & Order: SUV" in 1999.
4. "Gossip Girl" is a series of novels by Cecily von Ziegesar about a mysterious NYC blogger. Who provides her voice and narrates the TV show?

Answer: Kristen Bell

Every episode begins with Kristen saying, "'Gossip Girl' here, your one and only source into the scandalous lives of Manhattan's elite." You know you love her.
5. The book "Boardwalk Empire: The Birth, High Times and Corruption of Atlantic City" is based on the life of political boss Enoch "Nucky" Johnson. What is the last name of Steve Buscemi's character on the HBO series?

Answer: Thompson

In 2011, "Boardwalk Empire" received 18 Emmy nominations for its first season and won 8, including Martin Scorsese for directing the pilot. Steve Buscemi lost the Emmy, but won the Golden Globe.
6. "The Walking Dead" comic book and the television series have differed throughout the first season. Which character, who 'opted out' at the CDC, was original to the show?

Answer: Jacqui

The entire CDC plot line was developed specifically for the show, as well as Daryl and Merle Dixon. However, creator Robert Kirkman is considering writing the brothers into the comic book.
7. H.G. Bissenger's novel "Friday Night Lights: A Town, Team and a Dream" is based on the real-life Permian Panthers from Odessa, TX. The team on the TV show retains the Panther mascot, but what is the name of the fictional city and school?

Answer: Dillon

At the end of the third season, the town is divided into two schools, East and West Dillon. Eric Taylor becomes the head coach of the East Dillon Lions.
8. "Emily's Reasons Why Not" is a popular novel written by Carrie Gerlach. The TV series was not as successful and was canceled after one episode in 2006. Which actress from the Austin Powers films was the star?

Answer: Heather Graham

Six episodes were filmed, but they never aired in the U.S. One episode was one too many.
9. Unlike Candace Bushnell's book, the television show "Sex and the City" focuses a lot of time on Carrie Bradshaw's friends. Which character converted to Judaism for a man?

Answer: Charlotte

Charlotte married Harry Goldenblatt, her crass and unsophisticated divorce lawyer. Harry promised his mother that he would marry a Jewish woman, and Charlotte decided she loved him more than being Episcopalian.
10. The first season of HBO's "Game of Thrones" was a very faithful adaptation of George R.R. Martin's book. There were some negligible differences, such as in the books, the zombie-like creatures were called the Others. How were they known in the TV series?

Answer: White Walkers

They also omitted the signature violet eyes of Viserys and Daenerys Targaryen, but the show and novels are both incredible. Hopefully, HBO will remain as consistent with the rest of the books.
