Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Sean Gunn first appeared in "Gilmore Girls" in the second episode, "The Lorelais' First Day at Chilton". However, in this episode, he had a name other than Kirk. What was Kirk's original name?

Answer: Mick

"Mick" was a DSL cable hook-up guy in the episode, "The Lorelais' First Day at Chilton". He was hooking Lorelai and Rory's house up to the internet, per Emily's request. Rory was going to need the internet if she was going to Chilton, according to Emily.
2. How many siblings does Kirk have?

Answer: twelve

In the episode "A Tisket, A Tasket", Kirk mentions this little fact to Jackson as he eats out of Sookie's home made picnic lunch. He also mentions that his mother had made picnic lunches for every one of his siblings other than him when he was growing up in the town.
3. Who was Kirk living with for the first few seasons of the show?

Answer: His mother

Kirk living with his mother was mentioned an extraordinary number of times throughout the show. He lived with his mother through some of season five. In "Pulp Friction", he moves out. However, he doesn't have a place to go. He realizes, too late, that he probably should have gotten an apartment first.
4. What is Kirk's last name?

Answer: Gleason

The very first time Kirk's last name is mentioned is in the third season episode "One Has Class and the Other One Dyes". Lane once mentions his rock band's name, "The Kirk Gleason Five". His last name is mentioned a few more times sporadically throughout the series.
5. In season four, Kirk gets what viewers most likely should assume is his first girlfriend. What was her name?

Answer: Lulu

As Kirk reveals the fact that he had a crush on Lulu when she was dating his brother in "An Affair to Remember", and then goes to the extreme in preparing for the perfect date, Kirk has a great time on his first date with Lulu, and so does this girl, as odd and mysterious as it may seem to Luke (and Kirk himself).

In the following episode, "The Festival of Living Art", Kirk makes it well known to the entire town at the emergency town meeting that he has a girlfriend.
6. In "Say Goodnight, Gracie" Taylor plans on opening his "Old Fashioned Soda Shop". It ends up being delayed until the following episode because of Fran Weston's memorial service, but when Taylor announces its opening "tomorrow at noon", Kirk says some funny things. Taylor says that he has "come to announce to one and all that the day we thought would never get here has arrived." What day does Kirk guess has come?

Answer: All three of these

Taylor: "I come to announce to one and all that the day we thought would never get here has arrived."
Kirk: "Arbor Day?"
Taylor: "No."
Kirk: "The Day of Reckoning?"
Taylor: "No"
Kirk: "The Day the Music Died?"
Taylor: "Kirk,"
Kirk: "Give me a taffy."
Taylor: "What?"
Kirk: "I've got a million of 'em. Give me a taffy!"
7. Which of these jobs has never been Kirk's?

Answer: Accountant

Kirk has a different occupation in pretty much every other episode. In addition to the temporary careers I've already listed, Kirk has sold t-shirts, driven a tow truck, and so much more!
8. How many jobs did Kirk mention having had in the second to last episode of season five, "Blame Booze and Melville"?

Answer: 15,000

Kirk puts a competing offer on the house that Luke plans on buying for Lorelai and himself. When Luke asks Kirk why he needs a house, Kirk says that he just wants to buy it because he can afford it. Kirk's exact quote was, "I've been working for eleven years, Luke. I've had fifteen thousand jobs. I've saved every dollar I've ever made. That and the miracle of compound interest has created a bounty of a quarter of a million dollars. Again, just under. I don't want to brag." He mentions that he's had 15,000 different jobs in this town, and he wants to spend some of the money he's earned. Luke ends up getting the house, because he has a greater need for it.
9. In the season three episode "Happy Birthday, Baby", Rory gets the entire town of Stars Hollow to help make a pizza mimicking the largest in the world as a surprise for Lorelai's birthday. It wouldn't be quite as big as the largest ever was, but it would be huge. When Kirk is trying to help with the transportation of the pizza, however, something happens to him. What is it?

Answer: The pizza was tied to the roof of the car, and the car collapsed. The cheese gave Kirk some serious burns.

Poor Kirk. Even though his only real problem in this episode is the fact that massive cheese burns are covering his body, it seemed to be a pretty big deal for Kirk. Rory felt bad about it when the pizza guy told her what had happened. Rory suggested that the crust be made thicker, so that it could support the weight of the cheese and the toppings.
10. In the episode where Rory and Jess get in a car accident ("Teach Me Tonight"), Kirk has a little story of his own. Lorelai is in charge of picking the movie for the town charity event "Movie in the Square Night", and so Kirk approaches Lorelai, and asks if his short video that he has been working on for 5 years could be shown before the feature film. When does Lorelai show it?

Answer: before and after the film

They show the film to viewers before the film, but Jackson isn't there. Sookie goes to get Jackson, because "she can't believe he's missing this", and Lorelai mentions that they "are so showing this again after the film".
11. In "Dead Uncles and Vegetables", Lorelai helps Luke run the diner while Luke deals with the funeral arrangements for his dead uncle. When Kirk asks for more coffee, and Lorelai goes to refill it, what happens?

Answer: Kirk wants it to be 1/4 caf: 3/4 decaf and 1/4 caf

Lorelai listens to Kirk asking for the one fourth caffeinated coffee, then replies, "I four-fourths don't care." Kirk responds, "Fill me up." Later on in the episode, he tells Lorelai that he needs more "Equal". He needs seven. Lorelai asks Kirk if he's stashing them away for home use, or if he actually uses seven in his coffee. Kirk says that he uses all seven in his coffee, so Lorelai "helps him out" and puts all seven in his coffee for him.
12. In the season five episode, "So... Good Talk", Luke is very upset about his breakup with Lorelai, and takes out his anger on his customers. Kirk seems to enjoy it, however. He loves the burnt toast (which he refers to as blackened Cajun bread), the fishy bacon, the pancakes that he thought was meat, the damp and dirty rag thrown at him when he asked for a napkin, etc. At the end of the episode, Emily comes to the diner to talk to Luke. Luke stalls, and during the process asks Kirk if he wants coffee, and, ignoring Kirk's answer, fills up a cup. What was Kirk's response?

Answer: He can't drink coffee because it hurts his lungs

Regardless of the fact that Kirk drinks coffee in other episodes, such as "Dead Uncles and Vegetables", he doesn't in this episode. When there is obviously no more way for Luke to stall, as Kirk is satisfied and is Luke's only customer, Emily explains to Luke that Lorelai isn't speaking with her. Lorelai wants Luke, and she's set in her decision, even if Emily disapproves.
13. In the season three episode "Say Goodnight, Gracie", Bakery and Dragonfly Inn owner Fran Weston dies. What memorable "Kirk" moment happens in this episode?

Answer: A gnat flies into his mouth and he drops the coffin

Fran Weston wanted one last walk around the town before being put into her eternal resting place, so her coffin was being walked around the town one last time when it fell on Kirk. The_WB_Queen provided me with the additional information that "a gnat flew into Kirk's mouth and he freaked out and dropped the casket." (Thanks, WB Queen, by the way.) Rory and Lorelai found out about it reading the Stars Hollow Gazette the next morning.
14. In "A Tale of Poes and Fire", Kirk goes into the T-shirt making business. At the end of the episode, Lorelai walks into her burnt down inn, and Rory walks into her room, which is now redecorated for going to Yale as opposed to Harvard. A new one of Kirk's shirts are on her bed. What does it say?

Answer: rory's going to yale!

The T-shirts Kirk made were solid black with all lowercase white letters across the front. They were going to show a new and exciting event that would occur in the town each day. The first ones he made said "babette ate oatmeal" on them.
15. In "Jews and Chinese Food", a season five episode, Stars Hollow Elementary School is putting on a musical. All of the parts are played by third graders, except for the lead, which is played by Kirk. What musical is it?

Answer: Fiddler on the Roof

"Fiddler on the Roof" is where the title of the episode gets its "Jews" part of "Jews and Chinese Food". Luke and Lorelai's stories revolve around helping make the set and costumes for the play. Third grade teacher Lulu tells Luke that they did "Jesus Christ, Superstar" last year, but it was a disaster. Kirk actually sang the famous duet from the musical "Do You Love Me?" in this episode.
