In the beginning of leg 3, teams departed from Citta di Padova docked in Venice and were instructed to make their way by train from Italy to the city of Vienna, Austria nearly three hundred miles away. Once there, they needed to locate the intersection of Friedrichstraße and Operngasse and from this, they would need to follow a marked path into the city's sewers and emerge at the Heumarkt, the home of their next route marker. Because of the departure time, most teams boarded different trains to Vienna arriving after sundown. All ten teams needed to wait until the sewers opened at 8:00am before progressing with the race.

Answer: Josh and Steve

Rather than perform the tasks later on in the leg, Josh and Steve opted to attempt the Fast Forward during which they needed to travel to Schönbrunn Palace and don formal attire to enter a specific ballroom. Once inside, they needed to carry a tray of champagne glasses (each) filled with champagne across a dance floor filled with couples performing a waltz. Once both trays had been carried over without any spilling, that team, in this case, Josh and Steve, would be directed to the third Pit Stop.

Answer: Beethoven

Reaching the Heumarkt, teams were instructed to find a horse-drawn carriage known as a fiacre and ride their vehicles to Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna nearly six miles away. The fiacres departed in groups of four every half hour, so claiming a ticket was necessary. Once at Schönbrunn Palace, teams were instructed to complete the Detour task.

In this Detour, teams needed to choose between 'Mozart' and 'Beethoven'. In 'Mozart', teams needed to carry a six-stringed bass six miles to the house in which Mozart composed 'The Marriage of Figaro' while in 'Beethoven', teams needed to carry sheet music to a house owned by Beethoven nearly eleven miles away. Both tasks needed to be done on foot.

While many teams chose 'Mozart', Kelly and Jon chose 'Beethoven'.

After the Detour, teams were told to make their way to the route marker at the base of the Donauturm, the tallest structure in Austria. Here, teams found the Road Block for this leg of the race. For this task, teams needed to choose one member to perform a bungee jump 460 feet from the top of the Donauturm in Vienna, the tallest tower jump in Europe. Jaree, Sheree, Reichen, Millie, Jon, Jon, Russell, Jeff, and Steve all completed this task and took the next clue at the bottom of the tower.

Answer: Cyndi and Russell

After the Road Block, teams were instructed to travel by train to the town of Gmunden, Autria whereupon they would need to rush to the third Pit Stop of the race, the lakeside castle known as the Schloss Ort. Steve and Josh, who claimed the Fast Forward clue for this leg of the race, ended up placing first a couple hours before the other teams. Cyndi and Russell, who accidentally bought tickets to the town of Gmund, Austria instead of Gmunden ended up placing in last place due to their error and were subsequently eliminated from the race upon arriving at the Pit Stop.

Answer: France

Departing from the Schloss Ort in Gmunden, Austria in the early morning, teams were told to make their way by plane to Paris, France. Once there, they would need to get themselves to a train station and head to the city of Le Mans in northwest France. Once there, teams would be able to find their next route marker at the Circuit Bugatti racetrack just outside the city.

While some teams made their way to Paris from Salzburg Airport in Austria (via Frankfurt, Germany or Zurich, Switzerland), some ventured into Germany to fly out of Munich on their way to Paris.

Answer: Nine

Upon arriving at Circuit Bugatti, teams were given a Road Block task, the third one in the race. For this Road Block, teams needed to choose one member who could 'fit into a tight space' and the one selected needed to hop onto the racetrack, change four tires on a formula one race car, and take a lap with a professional driver before claiming their next clue at the winner's podium. Monica, Tian, Chip, Chuck, Jon, Jeff, Josh, Kelly, and Dave all completed this Road Block task before receiving the next piece of Route Info directing them to travel across France.

The other teams, meanwhile, were instructed to use marked cars outside the Le Mans racetrack to take themselves five hundred fifty miles across France to the city of Marseille to find Port #4 on the waterfront. Once there, teams would find a lighthouse and their next clue. Because this destination opened at 9:00am, all of the teams were bunched together.
Tian and Jaree, who claimed the Fast Forward, traveled to the Musee des Tapisseries in Aix-en-Provence where they constructed a puzzle depicting the Pit Stop using large, square pieces.

Once at the clue in Marseille, teams were told to go ninety-three miles to the Gorges du Blavet in Bagnols-en-Forêt where their next clue could be found at the end of a marked parking lot. Here, teams found the Detour clue, a choice between 'Ropes' and 'Slopes'.

In 'Ropes', teams needed to rappel two hundred thirty feet down the side of a cliff to receive their next clue while in 'Slopes', teams needed to take an extensive trail down to the same route marker in order to claim the clue. All eight teams participating completed the 'Ropes' task.

Answer: Steve and Josh

After the Detour task, teams were told to head back to their cars and travel one hundred fifty miles to the fourth Pit Stop of the race, the Chateau des Alpilles in Saint-Rémy-de-Provence, France. As a result of their claiming the Fast Forward clue, Tian and Jaree were the first ones to arrive at the Pit Stop.

As a result of their lack of navigational skills, Steve and Josh arrived after dusk at the Chateau des Alpilles and subsequently became the fourth team to be eliminated from the race.
