Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where did teams begin Leg 11?

Answer: South Korea

In the beginning of Leg 11, teams departed from the Pit Stop outside Geunjeongjeon Hall at Gyeongbokgung Palace. As the four teams participating headed out, they were instructed to remain in Seoul for the time being and to go to Hangang Park on Yeouido Island. Once there, teams needed to find marked pedestals at which kites were flying overhead. Once they pulled a string, their next clue would drop and they'd be able to move on.

This clue told teams to head to the next destination: Brisbane, Australia.

Here, teams would find their next clue.
2. Which team completed the Fast Forward task in Leg 11?

Answer: David and Jeff

Once teams took the seven thousand mile flight, they were instructed to make their way through Brisbane, Australia. David and Jeff, on the other hand, decided to take the Fast Forward clue (becoming the last team to do so during this race). For the Fast Forward, David and Jeff needed to drive an hour out of Brisbane to an oceanfront beach and perform a lifeguard test by swimming out into the surf on a board, and pulling the designated swimmer to the shore.

After this, they were able to proceed directly to the Pit Stop.
3. In Leg 11, all participating teams completed the 'Face First' Detour task.

Answer: True

Once in Brisbane, teams needed to find the Holiday Inn and check in with the concierge. Once they made their way to the penthouse suite, they discovered the Detour task, a choice between 'Face First' and 'Foot First'. In 'Face First', teams needed to perform a face-forward rappel two hundred feet down the side of the Holiday Inn building one team member at a time.

In 'Foot First', teams needed to spot a nearby building with a flag on top, head down the stairs to the street, race across, and walk up thirty stories of stairs by foot to the roof to claim the clue. All three participating teams selected 'Face First'.
4. How many teams completed the scuba Road Block in Leg 11?

Answer: Three

After the Detour, teams were told to drive to Mooloolaba, Australia, about forty-three miles away, and find Underwater World. Once there, teams found the Road Block task in which one member of each participating team needed to choose one person who thought it was safe to go back into the water. That participant needed to dive into the shark tank wearing a protective scuba suit and walk along the bottom of the tank to receive their next clue in a treasure chest. Over one hundred sharks call the tank home. Jon, Reichen, and Al participated in this task.
5. Which team was eliminated at the end of Leg 11?

Answer: Jon and Al

After the Road block, teams were told to travel on foot directly to their next Pit Stop, the Mooloolaba Yacht Club where they would be checked in. David and Jeff, who claimed the Fast Forward, were the first to arrive earning their third victory of the race and winning a Mexican vacation from American Airlines.

Although Reichen and Chip accidentally drove to the Pit Stop and incurred a time penalty for misreading the clue, Jon and Al were unable to make up time lost from their flight and became the ninth team eliminated from the race.
6. In Leg 12, teams needed to fly to which Australian city?

Answer: Cairns

Departing from the Mooloolaba Yacht Club in the beginning of Leg 12, teams were told to drive eighty miles to the town of Ferny Hills to find the Australian Woolshed. Once there, they needed to search through one of three marked containment units of wool to find their clue buried underneath. Once teams found this, they were instructed to make their way by plane to the city of Cairns, Australia in the northeast of the country. All three teams took the same flight from Brisbane to Cairns where they would be able to take marked cars tot heir next clue.
7. At the Wild World Zoo, what did teams need to feed?

Answer: Crocodiles

Once in Cairns, teams needed to drive themselves to the Wild World Tropical Zoo. Here, they found their next clue instructing them to take a number and a Kodak EasyShare Digital Camera and make their way (with a curator) to the crocodile pen. Here, one team member needed to take a feeding stick and give a fish tot he crocodile known as Sultan while the other teammate needed to snap a photo of the event on the camera.

After this, teams were able to make their way to the souvenir shop, print out their photos, and receive their next clue next clue telling them to go to Wangetti Beach in Cairns, about fifteen miles away.
8. In the Detour task in Leg 12, how many teams decided to ride a kayak?

Answer: None

At Wangetti Beach, teams found the penultimate Detour task of the race asking them to choose either 'Saddle' or 'Paddle'. In 'Saddle', teams needed to hop onto horses and search the beach for one of four race flags. Nearby would be a set of clue envelopes. Only one of the four would contain a clue while the rest would tell teams to try again.

In 'Paddle', teams needed to inflate a deflated rubber kayak and paddle it off the shore to a buoy on the ocean. Here, they would collect their next clue, putting them back into their cars. All three teams completed 'Saddle'.
9. In the Road Block for Leg 12, which team member flipped their ATV?

Answer: Jon

Teams needed to drive thirty-five miles to the town of Julatten to find their Road Block at 'Off Road Rush', an ATV course outside the town. Here, one team member needed to hop onboard an all-terrain buggy and race seven miles through the mud to be given their next clue at the end. David, Chip, and Jon all completed this task (though Jon had an unfortunate mishap when his buggy decided to flip over).

After this, teams were told to head to the final Pit Stop of the race.
10. Which team was last to arrive at the Pit Stop in the end of Leg 12?

Answer: Kelly and Jon

After the Road Block, teams were told to make their way (with their cars) to the race's final Pit Stop, Ellis Beach, nearly fifty miles away. David and Jeff, who pulled ahead in the later tasks of the leg, ended up placing first and claiming an American Airlines trip to Europe for their victory.

The remaining teams raced in with Reichen and Chip in second and Kelly and Jon pulling up in last place. Luckily, with only three teams remaining and one leg to go, they were spared from elimination. The time teams arrived would mark their standings and respective departure times upon beginning the final leg.
11. In Leg 13, all three teams completed which Detour task?

Answer: 'Wing it'

As teams departed from the final Pit Stop of the race in the middle of the night, they were told to make their way twenty miles to the Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park. Here, they would need to wait until morning to participate in an Aboriginal ceremony which would result in their next clue.

After this, teams needed to head fifteen miles back into Cairns to reach the General Airport. Once there, the Detour awaited and teams chose between 'Wing It' (in which they needed to skydive) or 'Wander It' (in which they needed to head to a mangrove forest and take a boat to the landing area to find their clue). All three teams decided to skydive.
12. Before heading off to their final city, teams were told to make their way to Hawaii.

Answer: True

After the Detour, teams were told to make their way by plane nearly five thousand miles to the island of Hawaii. Once there, they could take a marked car outside the airport and drive themselves to Kaulana Bay, the southernmost point of the United States, where their next clue would be waiting on the shore. Flying out of Cairns, Reichen and Chip and Jon and Kelly both snagged flights to Honolulu via Tokyo, Japan, but David and Jeff tested their luck by flying to Sydney before making their final flight plans. Once at Honolulu, teams flew to Kona International Airport on Hawaii.
13. What did teams need to do to complete the Road Block task in Leg 13 (the final leg)?

Answer: Swim

Once at Kaulana Bay, teams found the final Road Block task of the race requiring that one member of each team swim out into the ocean to a floating buoy/tiki head. Once there, team members needed to dive underwater to find a marked stone which would need to be retrieved and brought back to shore. Back on the beach, they would need to break this stone open using hammers and chisels.

Inside would be the next clue. Jon and Chip completed the final Road Block task. After this, teams were told to find Hawaii Volcanoes National Park where their next clue would be found at the end of a marked path made of hardened lava.
14. In which American city did teams find their final clues (in Leg 13)?

Answer: Phoenix

Once at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, teams were instructed to make their way to the final destination of the race: Phoenix, Arizona. Once there, teams needed to find their cluebox at the anchor of the USS Arizona. While Reichen and Chip flew from Hilo Airport to Honolulu and then to Phoenix, Kelly and Jon used Kona International Airport to go to Honolulu. Once teams received this clue, they needed to head to the southeast entrance of Sun Devil Stadium where they were required to solve a puzzle. Both members were required to identify the seat in the stadium at which their clue could be found using a specific date and two player jersey numbers, both of which were on the stadium walls.

This would be the final clue.
15. Which team crossed the finish line first in "The Amazing Race 4"?

Answer: Reichen and Chip

Solving the riddle at Sun Devil Stadium, teams were instructed to race to the finish line, taking their taxis to the west parking lot of Papago Park and riding mountain bikes to the end. Reichen and Chip, who led through Phoenix, were the first to hit the mat, winning the one million dollar prize and becoming the official winners of the fourth "Amazing Race". Kelly and Jon followed close behind to take second place and David and Jeff received news of their win from Hawaii, having been unable to catch up from their extremely late flight.
