Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Baudelaires are unable to remove Coach Genghis' turban because he claims to follow which faith?

Answer: Reconstructionist Judaism

'School spirit', as is explained, is an odd term that one may believe refers to a ghost or a phantasm haunting an educational establishment. It doesn't. It actually refers to 'the belief that one school may be better than another'. The Baudelaires soon realize that there are worse things that can haunt a school than school spirit.

Coach Genghis makes his introduction to Prufrock Preparatory at the pep rally and the Baudelaires realize that they may only have one chance to reveal Olaf for who he really is. Taking a copy of the Daily Punctilio, they head to the stage and try to note the similarities between Olaf and the new coach, but since he won't remove his turban (for religious reasons) or his shoes, they have to leave the situation in the hands of the Advanced Computer System. It doesn't work, failing to identify the villain. Coach Genghis forces the orphans to partake in his Select Orphan Running Exercises (S.O.R.E.) and that's that.
2. Who arrives to free Larry from the cafeteria freezer?

Answer: Jacques Snicket

The Baudelaires head back to their tiny, tin shack and realize that things are even more dire than before. The two Quagmire triplets come by soon after to spread their optimism and reconfirm that their parents all knew each other once upon a time. They once again state that they must visit the library in an effort to locate the missing book, but not long after this decision, Carmelita arrives to tell the Baudelaires to head to the school track to meet with Coach Genghis for their nightly regimen.

Larry, meanwhile, still freezing inside the cafeteria freezer, is surprised when Jacques Snicket, his taxi driver, arrives to free him from his prison.
3. The Baudelaires' exercise regimen involves running laps with which of these?

Answer: Paint

The Baudelaires end up at the track just before sundown to be reamed out by Coach Genghis. Vice-Principal Nero doesn't really see through the disguise (still) and he doesn't think twice when Genghis reveals his orphan exercise program. All three, he says, will wear special sneakers and run circular laps around the track, dragging behind them a can of luminous paint to create a glowing circle. There's no choice.

The two Quagmire triplets, meanwhile, speak to Olivia Caliban shortly before Vice-Principal Nero declares the library closed for the foreseeable future. It was a stipulation in Coach Genghis' contract...which he never read. Also, the walk-in freezer in the cafeteria is off-limits.
4. What word is used to describe Count Olaf's homeschooling workshop?

Answer: Life-ending

The Baudelaires continue to run their laps night after night after night from sundown to near-sun-up with Count Olaf never really revealing his plan to them. The problem is that the more the Baudelaires run, the more exhausted they get, and soon, their schoolwork starts to suffer and they find themselves sleeping through pop quizzes.

Carmelita ends up sending the children to Vice-Principal Nero's office and there, they're given the big ultimatum. Since they're failing all of their pop quizzes, Mr. Remora and Mrs. Bass will give them final comprehensive tests in front of the whole school. Sunny, too, will have to go through a series of menial tasks to keep her job. If they fail any of these, they will be homeschooled as part of Coach Genghis' Ultra-Dynamic, Life-Ending Workshop. Oh yeah, and they still have to go to Vice-Principal Nero's recital and their overnight laps on the track.
5. What do the Baudelaires use as a replacement for Sunny?

Answer: A sack of flour

As soon as the Baudelaires are given their insurmountable task, they return to their shack to think things through and Violet hatches a plan. All of them head to the cafeteria and search for miscellaneous items (including a sack of flour) and are nearly caught by Carmelita Spats who, to their surprise, sneaks in to sniff a cake.

The children head to the library to work on their plan and what they do is create disguises for the Quagmires (including a sack of flour made to look like Sunny). This way, the Baudelaires can study while the Quagmires complete the laps they need to.
6. Who is the first to find 'The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations' in the Prufrock Preparatory School library?

Answer: The Quagmires

The plan seems to work. The Quagmires start to run laps while Violet and Klaus quiz each other on their respective subjects and Sunny uses the tin shack's crabs to remove staples from Vice-Principal Nero's busy-work. During the laps, however, the string that the Quagmires orphans use to drag their flour-Sunny along snaps and Count Olaf, knowing something is amiss, kicks the faux-baby to get it to keep running.

This only ends up breaking the flour bag and revealing the ruse. Isadora and Duncan flee and hide in the library and Olaf pursues them alone.

He doesn't find them, but they find the book they're looking for.
7. What seemingly random item is referenced in 'The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations'?

Answer: The Sugar Bowl

The Duncans end up searching through the 'The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations', soon coming upon a page about the mysterious spyglass in their possession and they use the item as a flashlight to read through more of the book. Unfortunately, this attracts the attention of one of Count Olaf's associates-- the hook-handed man-- and they're found just as they begin reading about V.F.D. and 'The Sugar Bowl', two things intrinsically tied to their and the Baudelaires' families.
8. Who attends the Baudelaires' comprehensive exam ceremony?

Answer: Mr. Poe

In the morning, Mr. Poe arrives at Prufrock Preparatory School and somehow neglects to notice that Coach Genghis is actually Count Olaf in disguise. He's quickly whisked away to the auditorium while the Baudelaires are just waking up, having fallen asleep during their overnight cram session.

They all make it to the auditorium for the orphans' big, comprehensive exam and Mr. Poe simply can't believe the Baudelaires' claim that Genghis is Olaf, especially since the Advanced Computer System seems to be working.

The Baudelaires also state that Sunny has been a secretary since they arrived and Mr. Poe is put off by this since Sunny should be in preschool. It doesn't matter much though; if the children fail the exams, they're expelled.
9. Do the Baudelaires pass their onstage tasks for Mr. Remora, Mrs. Bass, and Vice-Principal Nero?

Answer: Yes

The test seems to be humiliating for the Baudelaires who, as per the awkward ultimatum, are brought to the front of the auditorium stage and forced to answer alternating questions from Mr. Remora and Mrs. Bass regarding their loose Language Arts and Math lessons. Surprisingly though, it does seem to drum up a generous amount of school spirit as the students (and Olaf and his henchmen) hope for the worst. But the Baudelaires persevere, correctly answering questions and, in Sunny's case, performing complex secretarial duties for the crowd.

Olivia Caliban excuses herself from the auditorium to find that there's a car running out in front of the building. Her library has been destroyed and 'The Incomplete History of Secret Organizations' rests on the floor.

Oh yeah, and the Baudelaires pass with flying colours and Vice-Principal Nero is willing to let the Baudelaires stay for the full trimester. However, Coach Genghis says, the physical education grade, as part of their comprehensive exam, is worth 51% of their final mark and will decide their fate (as per school charter). And he's not wrong. After all, he once attended Prufrock himself.
10. What is involved in the Baudelaires' physical fitness examination?

Answer: An arm-wrestling competition

For Coach Genghis' physical examination, he challenges the Baudelaires to an arm-wrestling competition to show off their prowess, and after argument, he agrees to face off against both Klaus and Violet at the same time. This gives Sunny the opportunity to untie Olaf's expensive running shoes and, in the right moment, interfere to reveal his ankle tattoo. Mr. Poe recognizes the ankle at once and a chase commences. Olaf escapes in his getaway car, as do his henchmen.

They take Isadora and Duncan with them, but aren't fast enough for the Quagmires to shout the initials V.F.D.

In the escape, Isadora also drops Klaus' half of the spyglass.
