Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was the Doctor's first companion in the new "Who" era?

Answer: Rose Tyler

Rose Tyler first appeared in the first episode of series 1 titled "Rose". Rose Jones was never a companion of the Doctor but, nonetheless, he did have a companion named Martha Jones who first appeared in the first episode of series 3 titled "Smith and Jones". Clara Oswald first appeared as modern-day Clara in the second half of series 7 in the episode "The Bells of Saint John" but had also appeared as Oswin Oswald earlier in the same season in "Asylum of the Daleks" and in the 2012 Christmas special prior to the second half of series 7 labelled "The Snowmen" as Clara Oswin Oswald. River Song made her first appearance in the 2-parter "Silence in the Library" and "Forest of the Dead".
2. What was the trademark line the 'echoes' of Clara said before they died?

Answer: Run you clever boy and remember

We first met Clara under the alias Oswin Oswald in Skaro ,which had now become an asylum for the broken and damaged Daleks. In the episode "Asylum of the Daleks". She got into the asylum on the crashed starship, Alaska where she was the Junior Entertainment Manager and had hacked into the centre of all the Dalek's knowledge and memories (also known as the hive) making her extremely useful to the trio, the Doctor, Amy and Rory, but it turned out the past year was only her imagination and the Daleks had done a full conversion on her making her a proper Dalek. Erasing the Doctor from the hive she lowered the shields allowing the planet, and her along with it, to explode while uttering the words, "Run you clever boy and remember".

The next time we meet Clara she is a nanny in Victorian London and, again, becomes helpful to the Doctor and who can forget the look on the Doctor's face when she claimed the TARDIS was "smaller on the outside" instead of "bigger on the inside"? Once again though, she died saving his life uttering the words "Run you clever boy and remember" before dying, by cruel coincidence, on the stroke of midnight symbolising that Christmas day had begun.
3. In what order did these companions FIRST meet the Doctor?

Answer: Rose, Donna, Martha, Amy, Clara

Although Donna wasn't the Doctor's "full-time" companion until series 4, and Martha was his companion the year before, Donna first met the Doctor on Christmas eve in 2006 when she appeared in the TARDIS in a wedding dress as she was walking down the aisle at her wedding ceremony.

In the end she turned down the chance to travel with the Doctor but soon learnt that turning down that opportunity was a stupid mistake and went looking for him only to reunite with him a bit over a year later at Adipose Industries.
4. Who is River Song to the Doctor?

Answer: His wife

River Song's first appearance is in the series 4 two part episode "Silence in the library/The Forest of the Dead". From the first time he meets her the Doctor suspects she's his wife when she tells him his name which only his wife, or wives in his case I guess, can know. In the episode "The Wedding of River Song" we actually witness their marriage.
5. What century is Captain Jack Harkness from?

Answer: 51st

Captain Jack was a 51st century time agent and con-man. After being shot by a Dalek, Rose revived him when she was in her "bad wolf" state giving him immortality.
6. What is River Song's real name?

Answer: Melody Pond

River is the child of Amy and Rory Pond when they became unexpected parents after Amy was replaced with a ganger through the sixth series and "woke up" giving birth to a baby girl. But all too soon when little Melody Pond was taken by Madame Kovarian. Melody Pond usually goes under the alias River Song but has also used the name Melody Malone.
7. How old was Amelia Pond when she first met the Doctor?

Answer: 7

The Doctor first crashed into her backyard in "The Eleventh Hour" just after regenerating where he discovered his new favourite food, fish fingers and custard! After saying he would be five minutes he jumped back in his TARDIS to return 12 years later. Young Amy was played by Caitlin Blackwood who is the cousin of Karen Gillian (who plays Amy). Karen and Caitlin first met on the set of Doctor Who after Karen got Caitlin the role. Caitlin was 9 at the time "The Eleventh Hour" was filmed.
8. Where was Martha when she first met the Doctor?

Answer: Walking down the street

She first met the Doctor on the street on the way to her job as a student doctor. He jumped into her path taking his tie off saying, 'Like so, see?' before walking off. She saw him again posing as John Smith a patient in the hospital and she later became his companion.

She left him on the last episode of series 3, "Last of the Timelords" but returned for cameo appearances in the 2-parter "The Sontaran Stratagem/The Poison Sky" and it's following episode "The Doctor's Daughter", the 2-parter "The Stolen Earth/Journey's End" and made a small cameo in the second part of "The End of Time".
9. In "The End of Time" when the Doctor got around to seeing Donna he parked the TARDIS across the road from the chapel she got married in just after the ceremony. What is the name of her husband?

Answer: Shaun Temple

When we first meet Donna in "The Runaway Bride," she is in the process of getting married to Lance Bennett but it turns out he never wanted to marry her, he just wanted her to sacrifice for the Racnoss. After the Doctor takes away her memories of her adventures he watched her leave the chapel with her new husband from a distance. Donna Noble became Donna Temple-Noble. The interesting thing about this is Donna is the Italian name for lady, Temple originates from the latin word tempus, meaning time and Noble can be another name for lord put them together and you get "lady time lord".
10. What is Astrid's last name?

Answer: Peth

Kylie Minogue made a special appearance in this episode as one-off companion Astrid Peth who, among many others, died to save the Earth and the people aboard the ship. The crew of "Doctor Who" are the masters of anagrams- did you know Astrid is an anagram of TARDIS?
