Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. While Violet is captured by Count Olaf, Klaus and Sunny end up in which location?

Answer: The vents

Klaus and Sunny find themselves in the mail vents of Heimlich Hospital and they watch through the vent covers as Violet is carried through the halls on a stretcher having been captured by Count Olaf and Esme. At the same time, Hal returns to the Library of Records to find that not only have his keys been replaced with fakes, but the door is open and the file cabinets have been knocked over.

He files his feelings under D for 'disastrous' and 'deceit'. In the main office, Count Olaf later speaks to Babs about what they can do to hide Violet, but it's clear the bureaucracy in the hospital makes that difficult. Olaf decides to check her in as a patient with a fake name to circumvent this.
2. Klaus and Sunny, in an effort to hide from Count Olaf and his henchmen, hide by posing as which of these?

Answer: V.F.D.

Out in the main lobby of Heimlich Hospital, the members of the Volunteers Fighting Disease get the new patient list for the day while Klaus and Sunny continue working their way through the ventilation shafts. Neither of them know exactly how to find Violet, but the arrival of V.F.D. kind of helps them out. Donning a few heart-shaped balloons to hide themselves, Klaus and Sunny are encouraged to sing and search the patient rooms to find their sister, even if that process is tedious and time-consuming.

It also seems to be horrible for the patients who, ailing, don't seem to be getting better from the music.
3. Where do Klaus and Sunny find their doctor disguise?

Answer: In a break room

Out in a room somewhere, Olaf counts on Sunny and Klaus finding Violet since he's sure they'll reunite with one another. He has Violet cornered, strapped into her bed at the mercy of his power tools, and soon enough the others will fall into his trap. And then he can kill them and take their fortune. During a moment of distraction, Violet pockets a scalpel and starts slicing at her bindings. Klaus and Sunny split off from the V.F.D. singers and realize that they can disguise themselves with items from the break room, posing together as a doctor to gain access to the rest of the rooms in secret.
4. Violet and Babs try to make an escape, but they are found when they try to leave out the exits.

Answer: False

Violet manages to get out of her bindings in due time and she unties Babs as well, freeing the frightened woman from her seat and asking for her help in getting out of the hospital. Babs is disappointed that she can't help too much; the only way out of the hospital is to fill out the proper forms or (as she laughs) to die. Violet tries to make a break for the exit, but she and Babs are forced to hide.

They find a break room and try to disguise themselves as doctors, but Babs' nervous laughter gets them caught and Violet is strapped even tighter into a new stretcher. To stop Violet from causing trouble, they split her off from Babs entirely and anesthetize her, knocking her out completely.
5. Klaus uses what name as part of his disguise?

Answer: Doctor Faustus

Klaus, changing his voice to hide his identity, asks the V.F.D. singers to get a peek at their patient list, but his quick attempt is thwarted when Count Olaf comes upon them. Olaf, still posing as Dr. Medicalschool, comments on Klaus being too young to be a doctor and scoffs at his coming from Oxford (which MUST be fake), but no one seems to be the wiser. Ultimately, their crossing of paths results in Klaus not getting to see the list...until Sunny reveals that she stole the list from Olaf's clipboard. Back in the break room, they try to make sense of the names on it, but there's no indication of where she is since her name isn't on the list.

It means that there must be a fake name hiding her identity.
6. Klaus and Sunny attempt to sort through anagrams using which of these to aid them?

Answer: Pasta

Remembering Duncan's commonplace book notes, Klaus recalls that the name Al Funcoot, which Count Olaf had used in the past, was an anagram, an instance where the letters in a name can be rearranged to form something new. With this in mind, he takes a box of alphabet pasta from a nearby shelf (entirely missing the Sugar Bowl hiding behind it) and gets to work unscrambling the names on the patient list. While this happens, Hal, working the main lobby in Babs' absence, greets Mr. Poe who, after quite a long time, has arrived to get his lightheadedness checked. Since visiting the Village of Fowl Devotees, known for its crows, be believes he caught swine flu.

He does, of course, need to file the proper paperwork. He loves this.
7. Violet is prepared for which of these surgeries?

Answer: Craniectomy

Klaus and Sunny quickly deduce that they can remove several names from the patient list as incompatible options since Violet's anagrammed name must contain a V and must be sixteen letters in length. Ultimately, this narrows the list down to the name Laura V Bleediotie, admitted for a runny nose into room 922.

When Klaus and Sunny arrive, however, Violet is already being prepped for a craniectomy (a head removal), and Esme stumbles upon them and brings them to the operating theatre for the big event.

As it turns out, when they arrive, Dr. Medicalschool is already there, preparing the sold-out crowd for what will be Doctor Faustus' first surgery, hopefully before Violet's anaesthesia wears off.
8. Klaus stalls Violet's operation by insisting upon which of these?

Answer: Completion of paperwork

After Olaf introduces his henchmen, all under fake names, he tells the crowd that Doctor Faustus will be performing the craniectomy, much to Mr. Poe's horror in the front row. It's dangerous, he claims, but necessary. Klaus and Sunny both decide that they will need to stall and think of a plan. Rooting through his brain, Klaus decides to talk about some of equipment he's using with memories of a book he once read called 'The Complete and Total History of Knives'. Klaus takes the opportunity to unhook the anaesthesia machine until Olaf and Esme urge the crowd into a chant.

The longer Klaus waits though, the more Violet can wake up, and he finds the exact way to go about this: they need to file the paperwork. The crowd goes wild over this development and they rush to get Hal.
9. Does Violet awaken before the operation can occur?

Answer: Yes

Olaf and Esme are angered by the turn of events, but Esme tells Klaus they can call off the whole operation if she simply gives him what he took from the files in the Library of Records because it's hers. He reaches into his pocket and gives it to her to save Violet, but it's not the Sugar Bowl she's looking for, so it doesn't really make a difference.

In fact, Olaf takes the opportunity to unmask Klaus and Sunny, revealing them to be those alleged murderers that everyone has been looking for. Violet awakens and Mr. Poe speaks up, suggesting that while he doesn't trust them fully, he's a bit more inclined to listen.

When Hal arrives though, he sets out the truth: they've been treacherous vandals who pretended to be volunteers, they stole his keys, and they destroyed any files they could about their crimes.

The Baudelaires strive to apologize, but in doing so they let Count Olaf get away...to the Library of Records to watch the Snicket tape. And when he finds out about its contents, he decides to set the hospital ablaze.
10. The Baudelaires escape Heimlich Hospital, but how?

Answer: They hide in Count Olaf's car

When Dr. Medicalschool hops onto the PA, he announces the fire in the Library of Records and blames the Baudelaires who, as they say, couldn't have done it since they were in front of them in the operating theatre the whole time. It doesn't matter though. As everyone closes in, they make their hasty escape, unfortunately hurting Hal in the process, and racing through the halls as Heimlich Hospital's fire spreads. They lock themselves into a supply closet with V.F.D. Mr. Poe, Hal, and Olaf's henchmen in pursuit. Using surgical tubing, the children climb out the window and jump, butterflies in their stomachs be damned. The childrens' jump works perfectly since they use just enough tubing. There's very little in the way of escape through, especially with so many people looking for them as murderers and arsonists. As Olaf's henchmen load into their car, they don't notice the Baudelaires sneaking into their trunk bound for destinations unknown. They don't see Olaf taking the flyer for Madame Lulu's fortune telling booth off the hood of his vehicle.

The Baudelaires' story remains dismal, but what choice do they have?

In Heimlich Hospital, the Sugar Bowl is grabbed from its shelf.
