"The Leftovers" Season 1, Episode 3 Quiz

Answer: Christopher Eccleston

Reverend Jamison is seen briefly in the first two episodes, both times handing out copies of his inflammatory fliers. He has made it his mission to shine a light on any Departed with sordid or evil pasts, proving that the vanishings were not the Rapture.

The 'Who' was a bit of a hint, Eccleston played the 9th doctor in the tv series "Doctor Who".

Answer: Pigeon

Just as deer were a recurring theme in episode one, so pigeons are a recurring theme in this episode. He also sees pigeons on a roulette table in a casino, and on top of a traffic light.

Answer: Nora Durst

Nora says she'll only help Matt if he gives up his paper and handing out his fliers. Matt not only refuses to stop, he tells Nora that her Departed husband cheated on her (but he would never print that). Nora's response is to throw him out.

Answer: Brother

Although we'd seen Nora and Matt hug in a previous episode, there was no hint of a sibling relationship until now. Matt is Nora's big brother and we learn a bit more about both of their histories.

Answer: In a fire

Of course they were also Nora's parents. We learn that she was just seven when they died. Matt's church was the family church and became his after their parents perished.

Answer: Car crash

Not just any car crash, but the crash seen in the beginning of episode 1. The scene is the parking lot outside the laundromat just after the vanishings. A mother is screaming for her missing baby, and a child is screaming for his missing parents. In the background we see a driver-less car crash into another auto.

In episode 3 we learn that the car that was hit was being driven by Mary, Matt was riding as passenger.

Answer: Laurie

Laurie writes Matt a note asking him not to tell Kevin and Jill that he'd seen her there. He jokingly replies that he won't say anything if she doesn't.

When he digs up the cash, he finds it in a Jif peanut butter jar. One of Matt's own fliers about a Departed corrupt judge is wrapped around the cash. On the back of the flyer is a handwritten note saying that Matt deserved the cash, signed with initials KG.

Answer: Roulette

Matt goes back to the casino where he'd seen pigeons on the roulette table, and insists on playing only that table. It's not a high stakes table but the house lets him play. In just three spins (always betting on red), Matt walks away with $160,000.

Answer: He'd been unconscious

On the way to the bank, Matt stopped to help a GR member who'd been attacked. As he was calling for help, the attackers came back and hit Matt in the head with a rock. Matt woke up in the hospital at 4:30PM. He dressed and rushed to the bank thinking he had 10 minutes to spare, only to find out he'd been unconscious for 3 days.

Answer: Guilty Remnant

The episode ends with Matt looking on helplessly as members of the GR silently swarm over the church; painting, bagging up prayer books, and taking down the sign.

Even with the gloomy ending, Eccleston was brilliant throughout and captivating to watch.
