Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which character provides the opening monologue of this episode?

Answer: Sheridan

Captain Sheridan gives his 'Personal Log' at the start of the episode. "We're almost ready to strike. The next few days will either mark the beginning of a new age or the death of everything we've worked for".

At this point in the series, G'Kar or Ivanova seemed to be the popular choices for voiceovers at the beginning of episodes. This episode bucks that trend, probably because at the heart of the story are Sheridan's choices during this episode and how they will save many lives, but also condemn others.
2. Emperor Cartagia only kills one person in this episode, who is it?

Answer: The Court Jester

Cartagia and the other nobles are seen laughing and joking in an early scene of "The Long Night". Much of the amusement is being instigated by the presence of a jester. Later in the episode Londo approaches the replica of the royal court on the Narn homeworld when the jesters hat rolls out to his feet. Cartagia appears, telling Londo that "humour is such a subjective thing".

Such a shame that this episode marks the end of Wortham Krimmer's fantastic portrayal of the insane Emperor Cartagia.
3. Who is the following quote spoken to: "An empty eye sees through to an empty heart."

Answer: Londo

While visiting G'Kar in his cell Londo realises that Emperor Cartagia has had G'Kar's eye plucked out. When asked about it by Londo, G'Kar replies, "my eye offended him. I see things now that were invisible to me before. An empty eye sees through to an empty heart".
G'Kar has already been seen wearing an eye patch in Londo's dream of his own death and also during the episode "War Without End" when Sheridan is unstuck in time.
4. What are the chains used to restrain G'Kar made of?

Answer: Solid Kirrilium

Londo hatches a plan to distract Cartagia, this includes bribing some of the guards to weaken the chains holding G'Kar. G'Kar will then break the chains and provide adequate distraction for Londo to kill the Emperor.
As G'Kar approaches the throne later in the episode, Cartagia informs Londo that he thought the chains had looked weak so he had them replaced! As G'Kar starts to make his attempt to break them, Cartagia proclaims that they are made of 'solid Kirrilium'. G'Kar uses his rage to inspire him to break the chains anyway.
5. Who kills Emperor Cartagia?

Answer: Vir

Londo had planned to kill Cartagia himself, but as he tries to deliver the injection Cartagia surprises him, knocking the device to the floor. As Cartagia is strangling Mollari, Vir approaches from behind to administer the deadly injection.
This was apparently a last minute change made to the script, originally Londo was supposed to kill Cartagia as planned.
6. While waiting in the War Room, which character says, "the natives are getting restless"?

Answer: Garibaldi

An increasingly irritable Garibaldi is showing his impatience at having to wait so long amongst all of the ambassadors from the league of non-aligned worlds. He says this to Lennier just prior to Sheridan and Delenn entering the War Room.
7. Which forces do Sheridan and Delenn plan to use their fleet to draw the line against during this episode?

Answer: Vorlons and Shadows

Sheridan and Delenn have learned of the location of the next Vorlon attack, the Coriana system. The plan is not just to make a stand against the Vorlons but to lure the Shadows into the system as well to force a confrontation.
8. What planet, specifically, is the next Vorlon target within the Coriana system?

Answer: Coriana 6

There are over 6 billion inhabitants of Coriana 6.
9. What is the name of the White Star captain that Sheridan asks, "you're not a married man are you?"

Answer: Ericson

Sheridan uses this question to 'tactfully' explain to Ericson that he is sending him on a suicide mission. He gives Ericson the information regarding a fake attack on the shadow base in the Coriana system. Ericson replies that he will make sure the information does not get into enemy hands. This is when Sheridan says, "you... misunderstand me. We want it to fall into their hands".

Bryan Cranston plays Ericson.
10. Sheridan quotes the following poetry in his log at the end of the episode, "Though we are not now that strength which in old days moved earth and heaven; that which we are, we are; one equal temper of heroic hearts, made weak by time and fate, but strong in will to strive, to seek, to find, and not to yield." Who is the author?

Answer: Tennyson

This is taken from 'Ulysses' by Lord Alfred Tennyson.

Sheridan states that it is a poem that he found on his desk when he first arrived on Babylon 5. This implies that it was left there by Commander Sinclair since we learned in a previous episode that Sinclair was a fan of Tennyson's poetry.
