Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The lead character in "Daredevil," Matt Murdock, is a superhero with a physical disability. What is it?

Answer: He is blind.

When he was a child, Matt Murdock was involved in an accident involving a truck carrying toxic waste.

Some of the waste spilled onto the boy, causing him to go blind. The combination of the toxic waste and blindness caused his other senses to be enhanced greatly.

After years of training he turned into the defender of the people known as the Daredevil.
2. Sticking to the theme of defending the innocent, not only is Matt Murdock a superhero, but he defends people at his day job as well. What does he do to earn a living?

Answer: Lawyer

Murdock worries more about taking care of people than earning a living for himself. He often takes cases where the client can't pay, or can pay very little.

The only rule he sticks to is that he'll only defend a client who is truly innocent, something he can tell with his enhanced abilities by listening to the rhythm of their heartbeat as they speak.
3. Unlike many of the heroes in the Marvel universe, Daredevil only protects a small portion of one city. What area of New York does Daredevil call home?

Answer: Hell's Kitchen

Hell's Kitchen is portrayed as being one of the worst neighborhoods in the Marvel Universe, hence the relatively small (about 12 city blocks) area needs its own superhero.

Daredevil is more of a "ground level" hero though, as described by the producers of the show. He is more likely to deal with the common street criminal than to do battle with a powered up super villain.
4. Who played the titular role in the "Daredevil" television show?

Answer: Charlie Cox

Cox played the titular role in this show.

Affleck played the role in the 2003 movie of the same name.

Rex Smith played the character in the made for television movie "The Trial of the Incredible Hulk."

Elden Henson played Foggy Nelson in the show.
5. The show is set within the Marvel Cinematic Universe. In the pilot, Matt Murdock and his partner Foggy Nelson rent an office to open their law firm. They get a good deal on the rent because the building was involved in "the incident." What was being referred to?

Answer: Alien invasion from "The Avengers" movie

It is very clearly laid out by Matt Murdock that "The incident" was an alien attack that rained fire from the sky.

The show is set just a few months after events of "The Avengers" film.

Many times throughout the first season construction is shown, and the rebuilding of the neighborhood is mentioned.
6. Daredevil's arch nemesis is Wilson Fisk is also known by what nom de plume?

Answer: The Kingpin

Wilson Fisk is a well known businessman in New York City. At night though, he is the man that runs all of the organized crime in the city.

The Kingpin was first introduced as a villain for Spider-Man, but quickly became one of Daredevil's most popular villains when he started paying close attention to Hell's Kitchen in the comic books.

His first appearance in a comic was in "The Amazing Spider-Man" #50 in July 1967.

Fisk is the main villain in the entire first season of "Daredevil."
7. (This is clearly stated multiple times by all three characters.) In the pilot episode, when Foggy and Matt first meet Karen Page, how long had they been lawyers?

Answer: 7.5 hours

They clarified to her that she would be their first client, they had passed the bar a few months earlier, but just opened their practice.

Murdock said that they had been practicing law for 7.5 hours when asked how long they had been lawyers. After a short discourse about when they passed the bar, Foggy agreed that it was 7.5 hours, and Karen also repeated the comment.

She had no money to pay the pair, but Matt decided to take the case anyway.
8. The pilot episode is called "Into the Ring," a clear reference not only to the start of the series, but also to Matt Murdock's father. What career did his father have that is referenced?

Answer: Boxer

James Murdock was a boxer who often fought on behalf of the mob. He was good enough to win most fights, but would often throw a fight in order to make more money for people betting on it.

James was killed after he tried to stand up to the mob and refused to throw a fight. After winning the fight he was supposed to throw, he was murdered later that night.

The fight that James refused to throw was against a young up and comer named "Crusher" Creel, that character later becomes the Absorbing Man on the "Agents of Shield" television show, furthering the continuity in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
9. Daredevil's fighting style is a splinter version of his mentor's own abilities. What was his mentor's name?

Answer: Stick

Only ever referred to as Stick, Matt Murdock's mentor trained him in martial arts, and on how to use his enhanced abilities to his advantage.

In the comic book world Stick also trained Elektra and Wolverine. Neither of those characters appeared in the first season of "Daredevil."

Stick was played by Scott Glenn in the show, and not portrayed as having a good relationship with the adult Matt Murdock.
10. Near the end of the pilot Matt Murdock enters into a gym and is shown working out in a montage. The name of the gym is shown several times, on the wall, on the door and on the window. What was the gym called?

Answer: Fogwell's Gym

"You can leave the lights off," he told the worker as he entered the apparently-closed gym.

Also seen hanging on the wall is a poster promoting a fight between Creel and Murdock.

This is a reference to the fight Matt's father refused to throw and was later killed because of.

Fogwell's Gym was well known in the comic book the show was adapted from as the place where James Murdock trained.
