Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Originally, whose idea is it to sing Cee-Lo Green's "Forget You" in "The Substitute"?

Answer: Puck

"Forget You" was one of the season's big winners in terms of song choices. Although Cee-Lo Green's original rendition of the song hit number one on the Billboard 'Top Pop' chart and number two on the Hot 100 (and appeared on several others), the "Glee" version performed by Gwyneth Paltrow reached "Forget You" is performed by Holly Holliday, a substitute teacher who steps in number eight, one of the highest spots by any "Glee" song.

It also appeared on the "Glee: The Music, Volume 4" collection. to fill Will's role as New Directions' coach while he's absent.

When she asks what they want to sing, Puck notes a time when his idea to sing Cee-Lo's "Forget You" was junked to make room for another Journey song. Holly ends up performing this one to open the kids up to their own ideas.
2. At the end of "The Substitute", Will and Holly Holliday decide to mash-up "Singin' in the Rain" with what 2007 Rihanna song?

Answer: Umbrella

In the end of the episode, Will's enjoyment of "Singin' in the Rain" is brought to the choir room but the kids aren't thrilled with the classics, so he approaches Holly for a modern idea. They both mash-up "Singin' in the Rain" (with Will on vocals) with Rihanna's "Umbrella" (with Holly on vocals) and perform with the kids in a rainy auditorium with umbrellas. This mash-up was the best-received mash-up on the show thus far. Peaking at number eighteen on the Hot 100, it was the second best-selling song of the episode and, other than "Forget You", the only one to chart.

It originally appeared on Rihanna's "Good Girl Gone Bad" album and her version hit number one on two different Billboard charts (appearing on four), winning one Grammy (though it was nominated for three).

The "Glee" version was not part of "Glee: The Music, Volume 4".
3. In "Furt", "Ohio" is sung by Doris and Sue Sylvester. When does Doris plan to sing it?

Answer: When Sue has her wedding day

"Ohio" was one of four singles released from the "Furt" episode though it was the only one not to appear on "Glee: The Music, Volume 4". It (along with "Sway") didn't chart either. This song is spurred by the return of Doris Sylvester, Sue's Nazi hunting mother, who arrives in Lima, Ohio to not only reconnect with her children, but to be there for Sue for her upcoming wedding (which, oddly, is to herself).

Her plan is to sing "Ohio" from the 1953 musical "Wonderful Town", and the two do practice it onstage (and argue through it). During the actual ceremony, Doris never gets the chance. Doris is played by Carol Burnett and it is the only song she sings in the second season of "Glee".
4. In "Furt", "Marry You" is the song that begins which characters' wedding ceremony?

Answer: Carol and Burt

To commence the Burt/Carol wedding, the kids of New Directions treat the church to a song and dance consisting of Bruno Mars' "Marry You", during which both Burt and Carol dance down the aisle to the altar. Although the song starts with Finn and Rachel singing, the other kids in the club join in. "Marry You" was the top-charting song from the episode reaching number thirty-two on the Billboard Hot 100.

It also appeared on "Glee: The Music, Volume 4". The original version by Bruno Mars appeared on his debut CD, "Doo-Wops & Hooligans", and only reached number eighty-five on the same chart.

It was never released as one of Mars' original singles.
5. "Just the Way You Are" is performed mainly by which New Directions member in "Furt"?

Answer: Finn

"Just the Way You Are" was the debut single from Bruno Mars' debut album release, "Doo-Wops & Hooligans", and it hit the airwaves in 2010 becoming a Billboard number one hit (on four different Billboard charts). The "Glee" version of the song, performed by Finn, reached number forty on the same chart.

It did appear on "Glee: The Music, Volume 4". After a speech for the happy newlyweds, Finn presents a gift to Kurt for all the work he did with the wedding and for all of the things he's taught him about being a man.

The gift turns out to be a song and dance to "Just the Way You Are" which not only includes a dance between Finn and Kurt, but a dance with Finn and his mother.
6. "Hey, Soul Sister" is performed by which group in "Special Education"?

Answer: The Warblers

While New Directions awaits their moment on stage in "Special Education", they watch Kurt, Blaine, and The Warblers perform this song by Train to the delight of the audience. While Blaine leads the song, rest of the Warblers back him with a cappella-style vocals.

The performance ties them with New Directions during Sectionals, allowing them to continue in the show choir circuit for the year. The original version of "Hey, Soul Sister" was released by Train in 2010 and became a summer hit. It went to number three on the Billboard Hot 100 and the year-end chart and went five times platinum in the U.S. alone.

The "Glee" version appeared on the "Glee: The Music, Presents the Warblers" album and peaked at number twenty-nine.
7. During their Sectionals performance in "Special Education", New Directions' first song is from the soundtrack for which film?

Answer: Dirty Dancing

"(I've Had) The Time of My Life" is the song in question and its release in 1987 on the "Dirty Dancing" soundtrack brought it to number one on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It won an Oscar, an Emmy, and a Grammy, and it was originally performed by Bill Medley and Jennifer Warnes.

The "Glee" version, the final song on "Glee: The Music, Volume 4", peaked at number thirty-eight. In "Special Education", to deviate from their normal approach to competition numbers (which usually see Rachel or Finn and Rachel singing the ballad portion), Sam and Quinn, who earlier won the duets competition in "Duets", sing the opening number together before joining the rest of their teammates onstage.
8. For the final number at Sectionals in "Special Education", Santana sings what song originally performed by The Zutons?

Answer: Valerie

Immediately after "(I've Had) The Time of My Life" is performed, the kids jump into a number used specifically to showcase some of the less-prominent members of New Directions. While Mike and Brittany perform an elaborate dance, Santana sings the Amy Winehouse/Mark Ronson version of the Zutons song, "Valerie".

After this song, the results come in and New Directions moves on to Regionals. "Valerie" appeared as one of the singles on "Glee: The Music, Volume 4". The show's version charted at number fifty-four on the Hot 100.

The Zutons' original single (from the "Tired of Hanging Around" album) never charted in the U.S. and the Amy Winehouse/Mark Ronson version. Both were popular in the UK.
9. "Dog Days are Over" is performed at the end of "Special Education" by which New Directions members?

Answer: Mercedes and Tina

"Dog Days are Over" became the top-selling single from the songs performed in "Special Education". Reaching a peak of number twenty-two on the Billboard charts, it surprisingly was not found on "Glee: The Music, Volume 4". Florence + The Machine's original version reached number twenty-one on the same chart (though it went higher on four other Billboard charts). Having won Sectionals, New Directions is happy to be moving on to Regionals in the coming months. To end the episode and to celebrate, the kids all get together to perform "Dog Days are Over" in the auditorium with Tina and Mercedes leading on vocals.

Despite the carefree song and dance, some of the relationships of the episode are left in ruins.
10. During "A Very Glee Christmas", Rachel and Finn sing what Christmas-themed Wham! song?

Answer: Last Christmas

During "A Very Glee Christmas", all of the songs performed by New Directions are Christmas-themed. "Last Christmas" was sung by Rachel and Finn when the two of them went searching for a Christmas tree to liven the club's mood after Sue decided to ruin/steal Christmas.

After the song, Finn decides to officially break up with Rachel because of events in the previous episode. "Last Christmas" was released as a "Glee" holiday single in season one but never appeared on the show until "A Very Glee Christmas".

Its highest position on the charts was number sixty-three on the Billboard Hot 100. Wham!'s version never made it to the Hot 100 though it appeared on three other Billboard charts. This song, along with many others, appeared on the special release of "Glee: The Music, The Christmas Album" (which reached number three on the Billboard 200 chart).

The highest-charting song on "A Very Glee Christmas" was "Baby, It's Cold Outside" which was sung by Kurt and Blaine and appeared at number fifty-seven.
