Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where does most of the action in "Doctor Mysterio" take place?

Answer: New York City

Most of "Return of Doctor Mysterio" happens in New York, with some action aboard an alien spaceship. This is the third "Doctor Who" storyline in the modern era to take place in New York, after "Daleks in Manhattan/Evolution of the Daleks" (Tenth Doctor) and "The Angels Take Manhattan" (Eleventh Doctor).

The episode begins with the Doctor meeting a young boy, and his reunion with the young man decades later as they team up to defeat an alien invasion.

Several of the Christmas Specials have taken place in London, including "The Christmas Invasion" (2005). Trenzalore is the site of "The Time of the Doctor" (2013), Matt Smith's last episode as the Doctor. Dorset was the setting for "The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe" (2011).

Most of "Doctor Mysterio" was shot on set in Cardiff, Wales, but some of the New York street scenes were shot in Sofia, Bulgaria.
2. Who is mentioned in the opening credits of "The Return of Doctor Mysterio" along with Peter Capaldi?

Answer: Matt Lucas

Matt Lucas, who we last saw as Nardole in "The Husbands of River Song", returns as companion to the Doctor. Justin Chatwin played the superhero/nanny, Charity Wakefield played reporter Lucy Fletcher (Lombard), and Adetomiwa played the evil alien, Mister Brock.

Matt Lucas has been acting in both film and television since 1995. He is probably best known for his work on the sketch comedy show "Little Britain" (2000 - 2007). Much of Lucas' work has been in comedies, science fiction and animated films. He has also performed on stage, as Thenardier in "Les Miserables".
3. What is the name of the young boy the Doctor meets at the start of "Return of Doctor Mysterio"?

Answer: Grant

Grant meets the Doctor as he hanging outside a window. He lets the Doctor in, assuming he is Santa Claus. They go up to the roof, where Grant accidentally eats a magical crystal which grants wishes and turns him into a superhero.

Answer: The Ghost

Grant Gordon is "The Ghost". He has "basic superpowers" like being able to fly, super strength and x-ray vision. The glasses to hide his secret identity, his description as "mild mannered" and a girlfriend with the initials LL indicate that Steven Moffat based the character on Superman. At the start of the episode, the Doctor and Grant have a discussion of Superman and Spiderman

"Doctor Mysterio" is the name for "Doctor Who" used in Spanish-speaking markets. The Phantom is a comic strip superhero which began in 1936. Specter was a member of the X-Men who could merge with his own shadow.

Justin Chatwin was The Ghost/Grant. Ironically, his television debut was on "Smallville" (2001). He was a regular on the series "Shameless" (2011-2015) and also made notable appearances on "Orphan Black" (2015) and "American Gothic" (2016).

Cybus Industries was the front corporation for the Cybermen in "Rise of the Cybermen/Age of Steel" (2006). Adipose Industries was the diet pill company in "Partners in Crime" (2008). While the BBC is probably responsible for more alien invasions than any other organization, all of them have been fictional.

Answer: Tokyo

Not only do they mention Tokyo - and everybody in the offices is Japanese - they have several Tokyo landmarks including Mount Fuji in the background.

The Doctor and Nardole discover that the offices are receiving a signal from low Earth orbit, which allows them to track down the alien spaceship and take it over.
