Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What did Avon Barksdale do to get his parole hearing moved up in season two?

Answer: He turned in a guard for the drug poisoning of several inmates.

Wee-bey told Avon that he was being harassed by prison guard Tilghman. Avon tried to talk to Tilghman but was rebuffed so he asked Stringer Bell to investigate him. Bell discovered he was buying drugs and selling them to prisoners, so Bell had Tilghman's supply tainted, causing the death of several inmates. Avon agreed to provide information on Tilghman to the officials in exchange for having his parole hearing moved up.
2. In season two, what did the dock workers steal from the police and ship around the country?

Answer: A surveillance van

Frank Sobotka was tired of being harassed by the police so he decided to get even. He sent Horse down to the police station, and he stole a police surveillance van. The dock workers drove it into a shipping container, put a union bumper sticker on the van and shipped it off.

As it made stops around the country, the local dock workers would add their own bumper sticker, take a picture of the van and send the picture to Major Valchek.
3. What was in the shipping container that Nick and Ziggy Sobotka stole from the docks and sold to Glekas in season two?

Answer: Cameras

There were fewer ships coming into the docks, which resulted in less work for Nick and Ziggy, so they were looking for something on the side. They decided to steal a shipment of cameras which they were able to sell for several thousand dollars. Unfortunately Frank Sobotka found out which prevented them from continuing their enterprise.
4. In season two, who arranged the murder of D'Angelo Barksdale?

Answer: Stringer Bell

Although D'Angelo had agreed to stick by the family and serve a twenty-year sentence, he had become increasingly distant from the gang and his family. He was particularly bitter with Avon after he found out that Avon had set up the poisoning of the inmates in order to reduce his sentence. Stringer Bell was concerned that D'Angelo might change his mind and testify against the dealers, so without Avon's knowledge, he arranged for D'Angelo to be killed.

He was strangled by another inmate who staged it to look like a suicide.
5. What did The Greek's right-hand man, Spiros, want Nick Sobotka to steal for him in season two?

Answer: Chemicals to make drugs

Nick was originally leery of stealing the chemicals because Spiros wouldn't tell him what the chemicals would be used for, and Nick was worried it was for making bombs. But after Ziggy researched the chemicals on the computer and discovered that they were used for making drugs, Nick was willing to do the deal.

Although Nick hadn't been willing to get involved in the drug trade early on, the money eventually drew him in.
6. In season two, what tipped off union leader Frank Sobotka that he was under surveillance?

Answer: His cell phone wasn't shut off even though he was several months behind in payments.

When Frank Sobotka had called the cell phone company to let them know he was sending in a payment, he was told that his phone was flagged so that it wouldn't be turned off even though the payments were past due. This, combined with the fact that Port Authority officer Beadie Russell had lied to him about being assigned to another dock (when she in fact was assigned to work with the police), made him suspect that he was being watched.
7. In season two, what was the result of the gun battle between Bodie's crew and the rival dealers they had chased away from a corner?

Answer: A young boy was killed in the crossfire.

Stringer Bell was upset with Bodie because he hadn't authorized Bodie to take the territory. He told Bodie to dump the guns used in the battle in the harbor, but when Bodie threw them out of the car, they landed on a passing barge. Bodie had wiped the prints off the guns, however, so he didn't flinch when the police tried to trap him by saying his prints were on the guns.
8. Why did Ziggy Sobotka end up in jail in season two?

Answer: He killed the Greek fence, Glekas.

Frank Sobotka's son, Ziggy, was irritated that his cousin Nick was running the drug operation that he (Ziggy) had started. He wanted to be in charge of his own deal, so he arranged to sell Glekas several cars stolen to order from the docks. When Ziggy arrived to get his payment, Glekas told him he wasn't going to pay the agreed amount, and Ziggy became incensed.

He killed Glekas and shot an employee in the store. As he later said, he was tired of being a punch line to everyone's jokes.
9. Whom did Stringer Bell trick into trying to kill New York hitman Brother Mouzone in season two?

Answer: Omar

Avon Barksdale had contracted with Brother Mouzone to protect the Barksdale operation from Proposition Joe. Stringer Bell wasn't pleased with this, because he had already made an arrangement with Joe to share the territory in exchange for quality drugs to sell. Stringer decided to use Omar to get rid of Mouzone by telling Omar that it was Mouzone who had killed Omar's boyfriend, Brandon. Omar did shoot Mouzone but before he killed him, he told Mouzone that he was doing it for Brandon. Mouzone denied involvement in Brandon's death, and realizing he'd been tricked, Omar dialed 911 to get help for the injured Mouzone.
10. Who killed Frank Sobotka in season two?

Answer: The Greeks

After Frank Sobotka was arrested (and paraded out of the union building in front of reporters), he initially wouldn't cooperate with the police, but Beadie Russell convinced him to do so. He agreed to a deal which would allow Nick to only get probation for selling drugs and would allow Ziggy to be moved to a nicer prison facility.

But he wasn't supposed to reveal what he knew until the next day when there was a lawyer present so he left the station and met up with Nick. Nick had been talking to the Greeks, and they had told him that in exchange for "loyalty" from Frank and Nick, they could get the charges against Ziggy dropped. Frank decided to hear them out, so he went to meet the Greeks, but they meanwhile had been tipped off that he was set to get a deal with the police, so they stabbed him, slit his throat and tossed him in the harbor.
