Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What part of England does "The Woman Who Fell to Earth" (2018) take place in?

Answer: Sheffield

Sheffield is in northern England, in South Yorkshire. It is one of the larger cities in England, and historically is known for steel production. The Doctor notes that she made her new sonic screwdriver out of "Sheffield Steel." It was old home week for Jodie Whittaker, who grew up in West Yorkshire.

Other Doctors have been in Yorkshire. The Eleventh Doctor and Clara Oswald went to Sweetville in Yorkshire ("The Crimson Horror").

The Twelfth Doctor spent a great deal of time in Bristol, the home town of Bill Potts. Northumberland, in the north of England, features in the Seventh Doctor adventure "The Curse of Fenric" (1989). Most of the "Key to Time" episode "The Stones of Blood" (1978) took place in Cornwall.
2. Jodie Whittaker's first line in "The Woman Who Fell to Earth" was _____________.

Answer: What?

Whittaker's very first line was "What?" said immediately after she fell thrown the roof of a train car. After dispatching a nasty alien machine, her next line was "That should buy us a few seconds." She does say "Bingo! Oi" right after they spot the evil blue alien.

Whittaker does not give the iconic "I'm the Doctor" line until near the end of "Woman Who Fell to Earth." When she did, it was great: "I'm the Doctor. Sorting out fair play throughout the universe."
3. What is Yazmin Khan's job when he first see her?

Answer: Police officer

Yazmin is a junior police officer, who is still on probation after almost two years. When we first see her, she is sorting out a parking dispute between two women.

Graham is a retired bus driver, while Ryan is working in a warehouse. Ryan is training to be a mechanic, although he might want to go into information technology; he seems fairly handy with computers. Ryan's grandmother was a nurse.

Yazmin got drawn into the Doctor's universe when she got bored with traffic duty and asked to be assigned something interesting. Be careful what you wish for, right?
4. What race did Tzim-Sha, the blue alien, belong to?

Answer: Stenza

Tzim-Sha was a member of the Stenza, the Conquerors of the Nine Systems. He was on Earth as part of a leadership test: hunting for a targeted human without weapons or assistance. Tzim-Sha cheated and sent a machine probe to hunt for his target. This proved his undoing, because the Doctor was able to reverse engineer the machine to track Tzim-Sha, and booby trapped the machine with DNA bombs.

The Stenza bear an exterior similarity with the Ice Warriors, who were natives of Mars. We first saw them during the Second Doctor's adventures, and later in the Eleventh Doctor episode "Cold War" (2013).

The Cyberman are one of the Doctor's oldest foes; the initial profile of Tzim-Sha resembled a Cyberman. Most incarnations of the Doctor have faced off against Cybermen.

The Sycorax attempted to invade Earth in "The Christmas Invasion" (2005), David Tennant's first episode as the Doctor.
5. How did Tzim-Sha kill his victims?

Answer: Freezing them

Tzim-Sha came from a planet that was much colder than Earth, so his body temperature was extremely cold. He could freeze people to death simply by touching them.

The most extreme case of aliens burning people was probably "42" (2007) in which sun creatures infested humans and turned them into walking furnaces.

Since Tzim Sha was not allowed to use weapons, a laser rifle was out. Laser based weapons have made frequent appearances on "Doctor Who" throughout the years.

There have been several plant-like races which attacked humans on "Doctor Who", most notably the Krynoids from the Fourth Doctor serial "The Seeds of Doom" (1976).
6. Why was Rahul tracking the aliens?

Answer: They abducted his sister

Rahul had been tracking the aliens for seven years, even since they had abducted his sister. He anticipated that the search might be dangerous, as he left a message in case he was killed.

Rahul found the large blue onion pod that Ryan and Yazmin had discovered and taken it to his garage. Unfortunately for him, it contained Tzim-Sha, who killed him in a very nasty manner.
7. What was Karl Wright's job in "The Woman Who Fell to Earth" (2018)?

Answer: Crane operator

Karl, one of the passengers on the train, turned out to be the trophy in Tzim-Sha's hunt. Karl worked as a crane operator at his father's company. They Doctor managed to get the cranes close together in her attempt to rescue Karl, but he was captured by Tzim-Sha.

The Doctor made a spectacular leap between the cranes, barely catching the rim before climbing up. She then tricked Tzim into setting off the bombs inside him.
8. What type of food was the Doctor craving in "The Woman Who Fell to Earth?"

Answer: Fried egg sandwich

The Doctor mentioned wanting a cuppa and a fried egg sandwich after they rescued Karl from the Stenza warrior. It is not unusual for the Doctor to have odd cravings following a regeneration. The Eleventh Doctor initially craved apples, before settling on fish fingers and custard.

Both the Tenth and Eleventh Doctors were fans of bananas.

Jelly Babies, a British candy, have a long and storied history throughout "Doctor Who." While they are most commonly associated with the Fourth Doctor, they were also used by the Second, Third, Fifth, Sixth, Seventh, Eighth, Tenth, Eleventh and Twelfth Doctors.
9. What was the name of Ryan's grandmother?

Answer: Grace

Grace was the grandmother of Ryan Sinclair. She was married to Graham O'Brien. Grace was a chemotherapy nurse. She was quite adventurous, and died saving her grandson and Yazmin from an attack by alien technology.

Carol was played by Sharon D Clarke, a British actress who has been active in television since 1986. She is probably best known for her work on the medical drama "Holby City" between 2003 and 2008.

Adelaide Brooke was the grandmother of Susie Fontana Brooke ("The Waters of Mars"). Rita Ann was Mickey Smith's grandmother. Francine was Martha Jones' mother and the grandmother of Keisha.
10. Where were the Doctor and the new companions at the end of "The Woman Who Fell to Earth?"

Answer: Outer space

The Doctor attempts to land on the planet where the TARDIS is, but winds up in the middle of outer space. Quite a cliffhanger for the first episode of season eleven.

The Doctor has been surrounded by Daleks on many occasions, most notably in "The Asylum of the Daleks" (2012) and "The Witch's Familiar" (2015).

The Doctor has also been underwater, starting with the Second Doctor in "The Underwater Menace" (1967) through the Twelfth Doctor in "Under The Lake" (2015).

The TARDIS is missing during "The Woman Who Fell to Earth" and still missing at the end of the episode. Hopefully she'll show up and rescue the Doctor.
