Richard and Emily correctly thought that Rory was coming home on Friday, and would be at Friday night dinner. Lorelai lies to them and tells them that she is coming home on Saturday so that Rory can spend Friday evening with Dean.

2. When Rory was in Washington, D.C., who did she start to write a letter to?

Answer: Jess

She talked to Dean on the phone a lot, but he also sent her lots of letters. Rory put all of Dean's letters in a nice stack and then started on a letter to Jess. She never ended up finishing it, though.
