The show used to open with "Here is a box, a musical box, wound up and ready to play."
Narrated by Brian Cant, the box would then start playing and slowly, one of the characters would arise from inside the box.

The opening for this show was the town clock.

They are all characters from the ITV show "Pipkins".

Produced for ATV and originally called "Inigo Pipkin" the name was changed when the actor who played Inigo died during filming of the second series.

The other animals did appear in the show, and were all hand puppets.

He spoke with a broad northern accent.

A piece of trivia I never knew that I verified on several websites. Harry Corbett was Harry Ramsden's nephew. For those not in the know, Harry Ramsden is probably the most famous name in the Fish and Chip business in the UK.

Harry Corbett was the 'straight man' to Sooty and Sweep.

Even though Sooty never said a word, except to his human helper, almost every kid knew his magic words - "Izzy wizzy, let's get busy".

They were hand puppets, all of them.

They are all characters from the secret agent spoofing "Danger Mouse".

Penfold was the sidekick of Danger Mouse. Silas was his arch enemy.

Danger Mouse was voiced by David Jason, perhaps better known as Del Boy from "Only Fools and Horses". While Penfold was voiced by Terry Scott, perpetual schoolboy in the "Curly Wurly" ads and veteran "Carry On" actor.

This was a traditionally animated cartoon.
