Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Who was the Special Prosecutor who issued the subpoenas to the White House staff?

Answer: Clement Rollins

Clement Rollins was appointed Special Prosecutor in the investigation of the non-disclosure of President Bartlet's illness. CJ was concerned that Rollins was not nasty enough and felt that the White House needed to be seen putting up a fight, not accepting the investigation calmly.

She therefore dropped a series of clues to the Press about the cordial relations between the White House and the Special Prosecutor. This ultimately led to the House Government Reform and Oversight Committee being brought into session to start immediate hearings into the case, which was exactly what the White House staff wanted in order to be able to fight their case.
2. Who was the reporter who criticised CJ about her clothes and lived to regret it?

Answer: Sherri Wexler

Sherri Wexler, an entertainment reporter, was in the Press Room covering a State Dinner. Following the report of a terrorist bombing in Jerusalem, Sherri asked about two American students reported killed in the bombing. CJ refused to confirm this information. Later that evening Sherri reported on television that CJ seemed to be 'out of the loop'.

She suggested that maybe CJ had missed some vital information because she had changed her clothes several times during the evening. CJ was furious because she had changed out of her ball gown into her suit since she felt it inappropriate to wear a ball gown to report on a terrorist bombing.

At a later press conference she publicly humiliated Sherri by asking her facts and figures that Sherri did not know and privately told her that her access to the Press Room would be strictly limited from then on.
3. Why did the White House not want Governor Jack Buckland of Indiana to challenge the President in the primaries?

Answer: He was too healthy

Jack Buckland was at the White House supposedly to talk about the Clean Air Act which had forced industries to close in his state, putting people out of work. However, Josh tackled him on his plans to run against the President in the primaries. His main concern was that Buckland was a sportsman and an athlete, which could lead to an unfavourable comparison with the President's health.

In the end he persuaded Buckland that he could be nominated as Labor Secretary instead where he could advocate the issues that were important in his state.
4. Will Sawyer, a reporter, told CJ that he had been told that someone at the White House had said: 'If the President wins re-election, it'll be on the Vice-President's coat tails'. Who had originally made the comment?

Answer: Toby

Will Sawyer, an overseas reporter, was assigned temporarily to the White House Press Corps. He told CJ that he had got the comment from someone who had heard Toby say it. Toby was chagrined when CJ told him this as it was a comment he had made in his team's meeting when they were discussing the fact that the Vice President was polling better in the Plains than the President.

He called all his staffers together but, to everyone's surprise, instead of a witch hunt, he simply made a very poignant speech in which he expressed his disappointment that someone had repeated his comment to a reporter.
5. What was the name of the female American Indian who took a stance in the White House lobby?

Answer: Maggie Morningstar Charles

The two American Indians, Jack Lone Feather and Maggie Morningstar Charles, were supposed to have a meeting with an official who had not turned up, and they refused to leave the White House lobby. CJ said that she could have them ejected, but they pointed out that the Press would see this happening.

They said that they had been waiting for fifteen years for a reply to their application about receiving better public health projects on their reservation. CJ finally persuaded them to make another appointment for after the Thanksgiving weekend.
6. Josh met Mark Faragut, a local DA, about the case of a thirteen year old boy who had shot his teacher and then been sent to Italy. Where did they meet?

Answer: Atlanta Airport

The boy's parents had sent him to Rome after the shooting. He had been arrested but the Italians refused to extradite him because he would have been tried in Georgia which still had the death penalty. Leo had found out that Mark Faragut, the DA, was due to leave Atlanta Airport at 8pm that evening and so Josh broke his journey to his mother's in Florida and met Faragut at the airport.

He persuaded Faragut not to seek the death penalty in return for media support for Faragut's next campaign for re-election.
7. Which reporter, doing a profile for 'Vanity Fair', was Sam's ex-fiancee?

Answer: Lisa Sherborne

"Vanity Fair" had asked to do a profile of Sam, starting on the night of the State of the Union speech. When Sam heard that the reporter was to be his ex-fiancee Lisa, he tried to protest but CJ insisted. Sam was clearly very uncomfortable with Lisa there as they waited for the ratings following the speech and at the end of evening they discussed briefly why they had never married. Lisa then said that she was handing her notes to someone else to complete the profile.
8. What was the name of the Poet Laureate?

Answer: Tabatha Fortis

At a White House dinner held in her honour, Tabatha was intending to confront the government on backing out of a ban on land mines. Toby explained to her that the government objection to the land mine ban was because of land mines laid on the North/South Korea border to stop an invasion by the North.

He said that if Tabatha confronted the President publicly, the press would concentrate more on the confrontation than on the land-mine issue. Finally Tabatha agreed to talk to the President in private rather than publicly at the dinner.
9. When he was a child, Alan Tatum had written a letter to a past President which arrived at the White House many years later. Which President was the letter intended for?

Answer: Roosevelt

Alan had written the letter to Roosevelt as a nine-year old. He said that he had met the President when he was making a budget speech in Pittsburgh. When Charlie discovered that Bartlet had never made a budget speeech in Pittsbugh, he investigated and found the writer of the letter.

He invited the now elderly Alan Tatum to the White House, telling him that the letter had been discovered by construction workers when Alan's former home was being demolished. As Alan had never received the photograph he had had taken with Roosevelt, Charlie arranged for him to be photographed with President Bartlet who was fascinated to hear all about Roosevelt's speech.
10. Where did CJ take her niece Hogan?

Answer: Dress shop

CJ was being tailed by a Sercret Service agent following a death threat. She told the agent (Simon Donovan) that she was taking her niece Hogan shopping at lunchtime to buy her a junior prom dress. Simon accompanied them at a distance but chatted to Hogan while CJ was trying on a Vera Wang dress.

When Simon next checked CJ's emails he found one which said "The Vera Wang looked great on you" and then went on to say that she was going to be dead soon.
