Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Princess Hinoto is blind, deaf and lame.

Answer: true

Princess Hinoto is the dreamseeing princess beneath the Diet Building, who in spite of being blind, deaf and lame, has never failed in telling the future of all. Unfortunately, like all other dreamseers, she can only see the future, no matter how painful, with no power to stop or change it.
2. Shortly after Sorata met Arashi, he told her he was decided on her. What, in fact, has Sorata decided on?

Answer: he would sacrifice his life for her

As prophesied by the stargazer from Kouya, Sorata was to become one of the Dragons of Heaven and would protect Kamui yet give up his life for a woman. Since then, Sorata has always prayed that his chosen woman would be a beautiful one, and indeed she is, in the person of Arashi from the Ise Shrine.

They fall in love but inevitably, the prophecy is fulfilled and Sorata dies defending Arashi from Fuma's sword. Also, Arashi goes to Kouya after Sorata's death and sees the bell wherein Sorata's wish is inscribed.
3. Name the title of the episode wherein Kamui chooses the present over a revolution, the turning-point of the story.

Answer: Alternative

Tokiko dies giving birth to the second Divine Sword, after which she asks for the sword to be sealed. She also leaves a message for her nephew, invoking him to make his decision well - a decision between being a Dragon of Earth or a Dragon of Heaven.

It is for this choice that Kamui was born and destined and wishing to protect those he loves, he chooses to be a Dragon of Heaven, not fully realizing the consequences.
4. What message does Kotori leave to Kakyou to be relayed to Kamui and her brother, Fuma, in her death dream?

Answer: she loves them very much and that the future has not yet been determined

Kotori is Kamui's childhood friend and sweetheart. When they were little, Kamui saves Kotori from falling from a tree and since then, they've shared a close bond. In the library, a few days after Kamui's return, Kotori tells Kamui how she wants to go to a dyeing plant and create the color indigo even if it takes ten or twenty years.

Unfortunately, Kotori is unable to achieve this dream as she must sacrifice her life for the two Kamuis, both whom she loves dearly. As revealed later by Princess Hinoto, no matter which path Kamui chose, Kotori was bound to die.

In her death dream before saying farewell, she gives Kakyou a message to relay to the men she loves. Kakyou reveals this message to Kamui in a later episode and the message gives Kamui strength in his resolve.
5. At what age does Daisuke Saiki choose to pledge his life for Princess Hinoto?

Answer: 13

As a boy, Saiki envied his uncle, Aoki, because of his great powers as a windmaster. To this, Aoki only advised that to be stronger, one must think of someone to protect. As early as 13, when called upon to serve Princess Hinoto, Saiki promises to protect her and dies fulfilling this promise. Aoki does not cry over his nephew's death but goes out to find the other Dragons of Earth to somehow make them pay. Karen joins him in this quest, a woman who admires him for trying to protect his wife and daughter, and who makes it her mission to protect him.
6. Aside from Inuki, what does Yuzuriha claim seeing which her friends refuse to believe in?

Answer: a waterfall

When Yuzuriha was still growing up at the Mitsumine Shrine, her friends teased her for claiming to see a mystical dog named Inuki. Aside from that, she had claimed to see a beautiful waterfall where Inuki led her. She tries to show this place to her friends but one of them falls into the river and the incident is forgotten.

In the end, it is in front of this waterfall that Yuzuriha spends time happily with Kusanagi.
7. What Bible verse does Karen tell herself over and over upon going to challenge Yuto?

Answer: "Unless a grain of wheat falls to the earth and dies, it will not bear fruit..."

Karen is a firemaster who works at an establishment called 'Flower' by day but is a devout Catholic. When her mother first discovers her strange gift, she thinks of Karen as a devil but a priest enlightens Karen and tells her she can use her power for good, which she does, using the power of fire to protect other people.

She dies protecting Aoki, whom she has met before at her establishment and whom she shares a special relationship with as the two oldest members of the Seven Seals.
8. Arashi cooks paella during the dinner shortly before her defection.

Answer: false

Arashi is the sword-maiden of the Ise Shrine who prepares salad and soup during the dinner. Shortly after, Sorata becomes wounded at Ginza because of her, making her realize her feelings for him. Because of this, betrays the Dragons of Heaven in her hopes of saving Sorata from death. She is unable to kill Kamui though and is even forgiven by him.
9. Before Kamui casts his Barrier Field, who was the last Dragon of Heaven to cast a Barrier Field?

Answer: Subaru Sumeragi

A Barrier Field is a protective shield that can be cast to protect structures and humans from damage and death, a power possessed only by the Dragons of Heaven. Subaru comes from a great clan of exorcists and is the one who summons Kamui from his catatonia after Kotori's death.

He, in turn, is summoned from his catatonia by Kakyou and Hokuto to protect Kamui once more during the Final Battle, casting his Barrier one last time before Kamui casted his own for the first time, saving humanity in doing so.
10. In the end, who among the Dragons of Heaven survive?

Answer: Yuzuriha, Aoki, Subaru and Arashi

Sorata gives up his life for the woman he loves, Arashi as prophesied, Karen dies protecting Aoki against Yuto, and Kamui dies in wishing to bring Fuma to his old self and to save the world and all humanity. I would have wanted Kamui to live but his death, his sacrifice, only makes "X" all the more meaningful and touching...Watch out for my next "X" quiz on the Dragons of Earth.
