Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Ramon asked Siroc why they were guarding a wagon full of empty boxes. What was Siroc's explanation?

Answer: Their wagon of empty boxes was a decoy for the real cargo

Siroc explained to Ramon that six teams of Musketeers were guiding wagons from Le Havre to the palace. Five of them were decoys, as the sixth wagon was transporting a valuable cargo.
2. When the wagon driven by Captain Duval was attacked, who rode to the rescue?

Answer: Ramon

Ramon, who was accompanying Siroc and one of the decoy wagons, heard what sounded like trouble at the crossroads. He quickly rode in that direction to aid in the defense of the wagon. Siroc remained with the decoy wagon. D'Artagnan and Jacques also assisted Captain Duval, but they were already there, as they were the guard detail assigned to that wagon.
3. Why did Captain Duval believe that Pierre was the person who tried to steal the treasure from the apparently unguarded room?

Answer: He entered the room and saw a man who looked like Pierre.

Captain Duval was monitoring the room holding the treasure using a surveillance device invented by Siroc. He then entered the room and caught Pierre in the act.
4. Pierre presented Prince Louis with, among other things, a book he had acquired in India. While reading the book, Louis discovered instructions for doing something and tried to do it himself. What was it?

Answer: Transform himself into the form of another person

Pierre had found the book hidden in a stone vault while serving in India. Elise explained that it contained ancient Indian fables.
5. What was Captain Duval's connection to Pierre's wife Elise?

Answer: He used to be engaged to her.

Captain Duval and Elise had been engaged when Duval was the brightest star in Musketeer training. He had a great future in front of him until he was injured. When it became apparent that he would not be able to achieve his former potential and provide for Elise in a fitting manner, he broke the engagement so she could marry someone else. The two remained friends.
6. The "Master of Changing Light" changed his appearance so that he could visit Pierre in his cell. Who did he impersonate?

Answer: Elise

He appeared in the guise of Elise, who was allowed into Pierre's cell to visit her husband the day before his execution. Once inside, the "Master" changed back into his own form. He told Pierre that he was the "Master of Justice". Because Pierre had ordered many executions in India, justice was served by Pierre's own execution.
7. How did Captain Duval convince Prince Louis to call off Pierre's execution?

Answer: He confessed to the attempted theft himself.

Captain Duval had come to believe that the man he saw in the treasure room was not actually Pierre, but the "Master" in the guise of Pierre. He could not let an innocent man be killed because of this mistake, but Louis wouldn't believe any of his arguments for Pierre's innocence. Therefore, Duval confessed to the crime himself to spare Pierre's life.
8. The Musketeers believed that the man in the cell was not actually Captain Duval, but the imposter. To be sure, they asked this individual what they had given Duval for his last birthday. What was his correct answer?

Answer: Nothing

When the man in the cell claimed to be Duval, D'Artagnan tried to prove him an imposter by asking him what they had given him for his last birthday. Duval told them that they had given him nothing, and called them a bunch of "thoughtless, shiftless recruits". This convinced the Musketeers that he was, indeed, the real Captain Duval.
9. The Musketeers devised a trap to lure the real thief out of hiding so that he could be arrested and Captain Duval spared. What did they use as bait?

Answer: The book

The Musketeers used the ancient book as bait to catch the real thief. They convinced Louis to go along with their plan by allowing him to be a part of the stake out. Louis, however, was bored by the proceeding.
10. Siroc and D'Artagnan each claimed that the other was the imposter. Who was actually the imposter?

Answer: D'Artagnan

Louis commanded both men to lower their swords. Only one man obeyed; Louis knew that a real Musketeer would always obey his king. Then the real D'Artagnan appeared, confirming the idenity of the imposter.
