Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Whose idea, vision, and plan was it to build the city of Rapture?

Answer: Andrew Ryan

"Now you've met Andrew Ryan... The bloody king of Rapture." - Atlas

Andrew Ryan built Rapture to get away from the governments which fed upon the work of the masses, and to quote him: "Where the artist would not fear the censor, where the scientist would not be bound by petty morality, where the great would not be constrained by the small".
2. The citizens of Rapture were selected based upon their superior intellect. Not everyone had access to the city because Andrew Ryan wanted to keep it secret from the world and away from the "Parasites". Unfortunately, what did the majority of these citizens later became known as?

Answer: Splicers

Splicers are the result of Rapture's Civil War during which they murdered the rest of the city's population. Due to the excessive use of ADAM, their bodies and minds were deformed beyond repair, and they still roam Rapture in search of their fix, usually coming in the form of Little Sisters.
3. Where and when did the Rapture Civil War erupt?

Answer: Kashmir Restaurant, 1959

It happened on New Year's Eve. Diane McClintock (Andrew Ryan's mistress) was celebrating in the restaurant alone when she witnessed an armed mob rush in, shooting everyone in their sight. Her personal Audio Log sheds light onto this incident. The Splicers still wear the masks from that particular day, and do so to hide their deformed faces.
4. Sander Cohen was one of Andrew Ryan's greatest supporters. The latter entrusted him with control and maintenance at Fort Frolic. What was Cohen's occupation?

Answer: Composer, Poet, Playwright, and Sculptor

The "Artistic Madman" was Sander Cohen. After Rapture's descent into chaos, he went mad. Most of his "Art" is composed of Splicers who were horrifically murdered and coated in plaster. And who can forget his musical masterpiece, "Cohen's Masterpiece"?
5. Originally named "Protectors", Big Daddies were once humans before Dr. Yi Suchong genetically modified them to have their organs and skin grafted into a big diving suit. What was their primary role in the city of Rapture?

Answer: Protection of Little Sisters

"Unzip 'im, Mr. B! Unzip 'im!" - A Little Sister

Little Sisters are brainwashed and genetically altered to gather ADAM from the corpses around the city. Even though they are immune to all damage, these young girls have no way to defend themselves from the prying attention and danger of Splicers. Cue the Big Daddy, a.k.a "Mr. Bubbles": His wrath is one not to be reckoned with.
6. Rapture security consists of automated mobile defenses, cameras, and turrets. However, these equipment can be hacked to your advantage. "Hacking" in the city of Rapture is very similar to what kind profession?

Answer: Plumbing

The goal of hacking is to create a complete path of pipes from one point to another. Water begins to flow through the first pipe as soon as the main character attempts to hack a machine or safe. It is then their responsibility to ensure that the water reaches its given destination as quickly as possible without leading the liquid into an alarm or dead end. If the attempt is successful, the outcome is an open safe, discount prices at a vending machine, or a friendly security bot or camera.
7. At one point in the game, you are tasked with finding a camera. This object does no damage what-so-ever, but proves to be a deadly addition to your arsenal. What is its purpose?

Answer: Research

Taking pictures of all kinds of enemies and some characters is critical to making your journey through Rapture an easier one. Every picture taken adds additional research points to your queue which will later accumulate and reward you with Tonics and Upgrades.

It is in your best interest to snap these pictures while in action to amplify the research points gained. A picture of multiple enemies about to attack you is the most highly scored. Taking pictures of Little Sisters, for example, will eventually increase the amount of ADAM you harvest from them.
8. Who called the Little Sisters her "Little Ones", and acted as though they were her children?

Answer: Dr. Brigid Tenenbaum

Tenenbaum urged the protagonist not to harvest the Little Sisters and promised to make it worth his while if he saved them. True to her word, she sent him extra ADAM and Tonics whenever a few were rescued at a time. It was Tenenbaum who created them, and she eventually decided to follow the right path by protecting and offering them shelter as best as she could.
9. The plot twist emerges, you discover the truth, and you make your way to exact vengeance upon those who lied to you. You now know you were brainwashed. What words were always used to make you obey?

Answer: "Would you kindly..."

"Would you kindly... Rate this quiz highly?"

Oblivious of your true identity and enemy, you were controlled and lied to this whole time. Dr. Yi Suchong played an integral part in the process of your brainwashing, and you know who the mastermind was behind all this plan...
10. The game "Bioshock" is actually inspired by a novel called "Atlas Shrugged". Which Russian-American philosopher, novelist, screenwriter, and playwright known for developing the philosophical system of Objectivism authored this book?

Answer: Ayn Rand

The architecture, philosophy, and society of the city of Rapture were inspired by the work of Ayn Rand, especially from the novel "Atlas Shrugged", published in 1957 and with a whopping 1,368 pages. The name 'Andrew Ryan' can be derived from 'Ayn Rand'.
