Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. "Atlantica Online" will take you on a long and arduous journey through the world collecting clues and fighting countless battles against creatures influenced by the deadly power of Oriharukon. Facing these challenges will help you get closer to finding your ancestral homeland which long ago disappeared. Which city are you looking to find?

Answer: Atlantis

The demise of the ancient Atlantians was due to their greed and an insatiable thirst for the crystals required to create Oriharukon, a substance giving Atlantis its power. The leftovers of this substance influenced creatures of both legend and lore to attack players on sight. Don't fear though, you will have the help of other mercenaries on your search for your ancestral home.
2. Which of the following periods forms the setting for the maritime game, "Voyage Century Online"?

Answer: Age of Sail

"Voyage Century Online" was developed by Snail Games and is set approximately during the sixteenth century. The game begins in Athens with players then being free to explore other cities around the world. Players can choose from five different professions in the game - Royal Military Officer, Caribbean Pirate, Treasure Hunter, Imperial Guardian and Armed Businessman.
3. In which sea is the MMORPG game "Pirates of the Burning Sea" based?

Answer: Caribbean Sea

Players can create multiple characters in the game and can choose different careers for each character. The character then chooses whether to fight for a nation, or become a pirate. Either way, each character captains their own ship and gains points as character levels increase. Depending on which career the chosen character has, will determine how accumulated points can be 'spent'.
4. "Pirates of the Caribbean Online" is a MMORPG based on the movies released in the early 2000s. Which company (better known for its connection with Mickey Mouse) originally developed the game?

Answer: Disney (Interactive Media Group)

Gaining notoriety is the aim of this game, with players required to complete quests, make alliances, hunt for buried treasure, outsmart enemies and battle evil forces to earn reputation and gold coins. The game was originally launched in October 2007, with the closure of the game planned for the end of September 2013.
5. "Puzzle Pirates" can be played on various servers known as 'oceans' with players having to create new pirates for each ocean. Shades of which colour are used to name Subscription Oceans?

Answer: Blue

Subscription oceans can largely be played for free except for a few specific items which require a subscription. Former and current subscription oceans include cobalt, cerulean and midnight. For doubloon oceans, payment is to be made using an in-game currency called doubloon which can be traded with other players or bought using real world currencies. Doubloon oceans are named after different shades of green.
6. "Uncharted Waters Online" offers players the choice of several occupations for their character. Of the following, which is NOT offered?

Answer: Pirate

Adventurers, merchants and soldiers sail the seas and play in the real world of the 15th century. Players also get to choose a nationality for their character from the following list:
*England
*Dutch Republic
*Ancien Régime in France
*Spanish Empire
*Kingdom of Portugal
*Republic of Venice
7. Another pirate-based game, "Seven Seas Saga" is an online browser-based game which requires no downloading of software for play. Many different civilisations had a 'list' of seven seas, but which civilisation included the Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Thailand and the South China Sea on its list?

Answer: Medieval Arabian

All the answer options had a separate 'set' of seven seas. The Medieval Arabian 'list' also included the Persian Gulf, Gulf of Khambhat, Strait of Malacca and the Singapore Strait, although other nearby bodies of water were also used by peoples of the area. Check out Wikipedia (Seven Seas) for a more comprehensive list from several different civilisations.
8. In which medieval fantasy world was "Rubies of Eventide" set?

Answer: Vormis

"Rubies of Eventide" was developed and published by CyberWarrior, Inc. Set in the fantasy world of Vormis, the game consisted of seven different races - Humans, Dwarves, Elves, Gnomes, Orcs, Ogres, and Leshy. Players could enter into battles, form guilds and hunt for monsters. The game shut down in 2009.
9. In the "World of Warcraft" extension "Mists of Pandaria", what is the type of creature named "the Wandering Isle"?

Answer: A giant turtle

The Wandering Isle is a giant turtle on whose back the Pandaren explorer Liu Lang travels to and from Pandaria.

"Mists of Pandaria" has added the continent Pandaria to the universe of "World of Warcraft". Players start in the Jade Forest. Other regions of the continent are the Valley of the Four Winds (our favourite location in the game - lol), the Vale of Eternal Blossoms and the Krasarang Wilds.
10. "Seafight" (yes, another pirate MMORPG!) has an element of another popular game in it. Players must look after their character and crew to ensure they don't do silly things - like fight each other and kill off the rest of your crew! Which simulation game (considered to be one of the most successful of all time) is based more on individual character development, rather than expansion of a society or civilisation?

Answer: The Sims

Games such as "The Sims" are focused more on individual characters and their development, rather than civilisations or communities as a whole. These types of games involves the emotions of virtual characters who need to be fed, watered, clothed and entertained to become functioning members of a virtual community.
