Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In this game, the rapid-fire RC-P90, Grenade Launcher, and oodles of Proximity Mines posed for explosive and bullet-riddled times in this N64 title. What was this Rare-made game?

Answer: Goldeneye 007

A classic shooter in many regards, "Goldeneye 007" was awarded Nintendo's 'Game of the Year' in 1997. Depicting the events in the James Bond movie of the same name, the player headed to Russia, Cuba, and other settings to defeat rogue 00-agent Alec Trevelyan. Throughout, newer, bigger guns could be found (including a ride through St. Petersburg in a Tank) in addition to mines and weapons from previous Bond films (like the Moonraker Laser). All of these weapons, however deadly, could be unlocked for multiplayer using unlocked cheats or the "Gameshark". Multiplayer is, perhaps, one of the most rewarding shoot 'em up experiences in N64 history (I recall 'Stacks' with Proximity Mines).

It's no surprise the game was remade exclusively for the Nintendo Wii in 2010 with Eurocom heading development.
2. "Turok: Dinosaur Hunter" (N64) included a weapon with a blue crystal, the pieces of which needed to be found throughout the game (otherwise you needed to cheat to get it). What was the name of this extremely powerful weapon?

Answer: Chronoscepter

The Chronoscepter is a sharpshooting, catastrophically-overpowered weapon in this N64 title which takes eight pieces to build. If he collects them all, he'll stop the antagonist of the game, the Campaigner, and win. Similarly, in "Turok 2: Seeds of Evil", Turok could find the Nuke Weapon to devastate onscreen baddies.

The Choronoscepter could also be used to cut boss battles to bits. A red weapon known as the Fusion Cannon could also be built in the game and used to destroy a larger area of enemies. Say you don't want to play through the game to get this device. Why not type NTHGTHDGDCRTDTRK into the cheat window? This 'big cheat' unlocked all unlockables possible. CMGTSMMGGTS would simply unlock the weapons while BLLTSRRFRND gave unlimited ammo.
3. In the "Halo" (Xbox/Xbox 360) series, the M12A1 Light Anti-Armor Vehicle (a variation of the jeep vehicle known as a 'Warthog') shoots which projectiles?

Answer: Rockets

Clearly to be used against stronger vehicles or larger groups of enemies, the Light Anti-Armor Vehicle (like other Warthogs) can hold three people: one driver, a passenger, and the gunner in back. This Warthog contains what can essentially be called a mounted rocket launcher while other variants include machine guns and gauss cannons. The passenger can throw grenades or shoot, but the vehicle can not.
Other vehicles like the Sentinel, Ghost, and Banshee only serve to make the "Halo" series more explosive than need be, but that's one of the reasons it's so addictive!
4. The destructive BFG 9000 is from which game series?

Answer: Doom

Abbreviating words I can't necessarily say on FunTrivia (we're a family site!), the BFG 9000 first appeared in the first "Doom" game in 1993. Although the "Doom" movie calls this weapon the Bio Force Gun, that doesn't explain it in its entirety. The truth is, this gun shoots a projectile that kills any thing it hits almost immediately. If you happen to come across this hidden device in your travels, do not aim it directly towards the eyes. ;)
The BFG 9000 also appears in the "Quake" series.
5. "Gears of War's" (Xbox 360) Hammer of Dawn caused a precise, damaging laser to shoot from which of these?

Answer: A satellite

In this Xbox 360 set of games, the Hammer of Dawn was operated using a gun which, when triggered, would alert a satellite in outer space. This would be able to precisely shoot enemies setting them ablaze on contact. Although a number of different weapons in the game controlled by Fenix and Dom are quite damaging, the Hammer of Dawn is not only the rarest of them, but possibly the most difficult to aim. You can only shoot this device outside so as to connect to the satellite's system.

The Hammer of Dawn is the only weapon that can kill a Berserker in the first games.
6. In the Super Mario series, which of these objects/creatures is an explosive?

Answer: Bob-Omb

The Bob-Omb is a fickle creature. In some games, immediate contact will set off the timer on this bomb creature and in others there may be some sort of delay. Black Bob-Ombs have shown in Mario's adventures, "Party" games, sports games, and more. Different coloured Bob-Ombs can also designate different things. Black Bob-Ombs are typically enemies while pink ones have acted as helpful allies in the "Paper Mario" series and "Super Mario 64". Nevertheless, as enemies they made a big bang when Mario least needed it. Bob-Ombs first appeared in "Super Mario Bros. 2" though not as enemies until the third NES game.
7. BOOM! Even in "Super Smash Bros. Brawl" (Wii), these items could explode unexpectedly. Which of these could be an ultimately explosive undoing?

Answer: Capsule

In "Super Smash Bros. Brawl", Bob-Ombs, Sticky Bombs, and Proximity Mines may seem like the obvious choices for highly-effective explosives, but each mysterious capsule or box could just as easily be packed with enough explosives to send you over the edge of the screen if you happen to have a high enough percentage rating. With no way to tell, tossing a capsule could either reward the player it hits or explode in their face making every thrown item a real toss-up. Just as effective for frantic players, Party Balls can open up and spill out three Bob-Ombs at once. That causes a big bang for sure.
8. Sure, in the "Legend of Zelda" games, Link could always rely on Bombs to get the job done, but in the Nintendo 64 games ("Ocarina of Time" and "Majora's Mask") what automated item made bombs not only fun, but charming (especially when bowling)?

Answer: Bombchu

In "Ocarina of Time", Bombchus made a debut appearance as an item with real bang. As a kid, these items could be used in the Bombchu Bowling Alley nestled amongst the shops of Hyrule Castle Town to win prizes like Pieces of Heart, Purple Rupees, larger Wallets, and Bombchus themselves. Technically, Bombchus were only required for one dungeon of the entire game: the Spirit Temple. Bombchus later reappeared in "Majora's Mask", "Oracle of Ages" and "Oracle of Seasons" (GBA) and "Phantom Hourglass" (DS). Bombchus are shaped like small mice which scurry in the direction you set them (directly in front of you).

They explode on contact.
9. In "Banjo-Tooie" (N64), Kazooie could lay Grenade Eggs and what other type of Eggs which exploded after a timer countdown?

Answer: Clockwork Eggs

"Banjo-Tooie", expanding on Rare's originally Nintendo 64 game "Banjo-Kazooie", added to Kazooie's egg artillery by adding Fire Eggs, Ice Eggs, Grenade Eggs, and Clockwork Eggs. Of these, Clockwork were the hardest to accumulate- nests of eggs coming in sets of five were reduce to one egg per nest in the Clockwork case. Once this egg was laid, a small clockwork bird would be controllable so long as Kazooie (and/or Banjo) was not being attacked at the same time.

This creature could sneak up on enemies to defeat them from behind, explode to unlock difficult-to-reach switches/obstacles, or access areas unreachable by the bear or bird. Jamjars teaches Kazooie how to use these eggs in the Isle O' Hags outside Terrydactyland.
10. In "Minesweeper" (PC), what happens if you land upon/click a mine space?

Answer: The game ends

Although not as explosive, this subtle, single step is the only wrong step you can make in the entire game. As you weave through numbered and empty tiles to stay safe in this classic PC game from the days of Windows 3.1, you'll need to purposely avoid/track the mines hiding under boxes onscreen and clear off every other square in the window. Land on one and no explosions are necessary- a single 'boom' and the game is done.
Classic.
