Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Garr and the Boss of Steel Beach hope to pull up a machine to prove that the party is strong enough to collect boat parts in the freighter. But what unfortunate object or creature do they end up reeling in instead?

Answer: A giant fish called Angler

They pull up something fishy... an Angler. Fighting this boss proves they really are strong, and thus can gather the parts they need!
After gathering the necessary parts, Momo fixes the ship and on the return trip to Rhapala, the Black Ship, an abandoned self piloting ship is spotted.

Whilst Zig tries to get the small boat to the Outer Sea, it's too hard for him. Zig then says he couldn't live up to the standard of the Legendary Mariner, who crossed the Outer Sea. Nina asks who that is, and Zig says it's an old legend. But he also adds perhaps the mayor of Parch knows who he is.

At Parch, they find the old mayor, and the village lives on a staple diet on fish, but since the mayor got ill off some he doesn't want any. His assistant thinks maybe some Wyndian food could cheer him up? Feeding him shisu of any quality gets him to talk.
2. Which pet does the "Legendary Mariner", Kukuys, have?

Answer: A parrot

He has a parrot called Duan, who keeps him company.
He informs Ryu, Momo and Nina he's actually a stowaway of the automated Black Ship. He's surprised the guild still call him the "Legendary Mariner".

To board the Black Ship, Momo tries to shoot the ship with her bazooka, but it doesn't do anything and causes its defence system to shoot back, a narrow miss. She then thinks they should ram the ship and that is what they do - ram the Black Ship in the back, and board it heading for its bridge.

After they reach it, prana emits from Ryu once more reminding them of their trip to see God. They rest for a few days but have to destroy some Ammonites slowing the ship down. Soon after, they arrive at the other side in a new town, Kombinat.
3. At Kombinat you learn the real purpose of the Black ship. What is it?

Answer: Transfer machines across the sea

It transfers machines to the other side of the ocean. However, the people appear to be the equivalent of human robots - they do not seem to know a lot about the world around them. And, they don't know where the machines they load onto the Black Ship come from, either.

Their stay in Kombinat is short. A bit of legwork gets them to the Colony. Closer inspection of a machine there reveals a teleporter similar to the one at Wyndia. After activating it, they use it.
They soon find they are in the Steel Beach freighter, back where they started.

But they soon realise if this teleported them back, then it may be able to port them to God. They fix the antenna... and new locations are revealed.
4. The group teleport to Dragnier, the town of the surviving Brood... and Ryu is hailed and celebrated after he appears. Why is this?

Answer: He can avenge the Brood by slaying their enemy, the Goddess Myria

Upon arrival, the patriarch, Griol, greets Ryu. They appear to be aware of his existence, as they were waiting for him. The group attend a banquet, but a woman drugs Ryu's meat so he falls asleep (that or he was just very tired...).

In his dreams, he sees Brood who say they gave up their powers for this moment, and that he is their hope. Griol then says that before he can slay the Goddess Myria, he needs the ultimate Brood power.

He then wakes up. Garr believes that the Brood still hate him, however, Rei says that the only person's opinion who matters is Ryu, and that Garr thinks too much.

Griol then wants Ryu to see the Elder of Dragnier: the oldest Brood, alive since the Great War.
5. After talking with Ryu, Garr and Nina (who gets to kiss him), Jono wants to talk to Ryu once more. He wants to bequeath the true power of the Brood to Ryu. But Ryu's dragon powers are blocked here. What explanation, which is perhaps contradictory, is given for his powers being disabled?

Answer: Magical wards placed to prevent discovery by Myria

It's to prevent discovery of the last actual dragon in this village by Myria. However, since Jono transforms into a dragon himself, this reason appears to be contradictory and a little contrived. Another interesting fact, the mural in the corridor before meeting Jono depicts the previous struggles against Myria in the past, and it can also be seen on the title screen.

As his final words, Jono says Ryu can do with his power what he wishes... but it is a dangerous power, one which Myria rightly fears. He also notes that his friends are important in the journey as well.

Upon climbing out of the cellar, the group is told that Myria is past the Desert of Death, and that Horis will go with them up to the entrance of the Desert and guide them through it. The Desert of Death involves 'days' (in-game days) of walking according to the position of the stars at night. However, it takes its toll on one member more than the others...
6. Near the end of the party's journey through the Desert of Death, Nina falls ill with heat stroke. What drastic action does Ryu take in order to restore her vitality?

Answer: Feed her rakda meat

This action is drastic because the rakda is the party's only way to return to the start of the Desert. Considering the consequences, this marked a metaphorical point of no return. After this, the rest of the journey proceeds smoothly, and, finally, the Oasis is reached. Following a short rest at an Oasis, the party get a lead on their next and final location...
7. Just a short distance from the Oasis lies the remnant of a distant past, the only lead the party have to explore. What is the name of this highly technological ruins of an ancient civilisation?

Answer: Caer Xhan

Caer Xhan is the last story location in the game. The party arrives knowing little of this locale. However, exploration reveals a research facility of sorts. The party will see an ID card, with a slight hitch - a sleeping beast is by it. The only way to get the card is to disable the gas, so they do.

After disabling an electric field, they progress to the room with aforementioned beast. Unfortunately, it wakes up and it must be dispatched. Sadly, the ID card isn't the one needed, however there are some plant-destroying rocket shells (HE Shells) which allow access to the plant area of the facility. Journeying to the end of this part allows access to Eden, where an old friend lies...
8. The childhood trio of Rei, Teepo and Ryu are reunited in Eden, however Teepo is cold to Rei and focuses on asking Ryu to give up his powers, as he is also of the Dragon clan and believe they are a danger to the world. After getting nowhere, Teepo changes tack. What does he do first?

Answer: Places Ryu in a zone where he can see his friend's thoughts

Teepo's aim is to convince Ryu that his friends are all selfish and only undertaking this journey for their own self servicing reasons, by seeing some of their thought patterns. Ryu also learns that Peco is more than he seems; a part of the tree Yggdrasil, and has been watching his journey.

Afterwards, Ryu sees a mirror of himself, who further tries to convince him to give up his powers, yet fails. Teepo appears, once more, and gives Ryu another chance to give up his powers. Teepo won't let him leave, setting a creature upon him, and upon dispatching it, Ryu will be back in Eden. Teepo remarks that Ryu wouldn't have died if he gave up his powers, just stayed in Eden.

Unfortunately, Teepo resorts to his last option as neither he or Ryu change their stances. Teepo changes into a dragon and fights Ryu. Upon losing, he references the past and says all he wanted was to be with Ryu and Rei like old times, and then dies, leaving the top class access card to the final areas of the game.
9. After exploration of the areas locked by the master key card, Myria is finally found. Which of these is NOT one of the safeguards she has employed to keep mankind alive?

Answer: Planting Yggdrasil trees to stimulate life

Myria, and her holograms, explain some of the dangers posed to humankind and life itself. The ocean keeps the Desert of Death from sprawling and covering all the land, and Kombinat is a loading bay for the machines, which are sent over the ocean in the Black Ship. These machines are broken so that people do not develop weapons, as it is alluded Caer Xhan fell to such forces. Energy is provided in the form of chrysm ore, which has been transmuted from fossilised dragon remains by Myria. Myria has also infused certain people with superhuman powers, as evidenced by the boss monster replicas she keeps, and in the Guardians Garr, Gaist, Gaw and Gatz, who were given the power to slay the Brood.

Yggdrasil, in the form of Peco, does not agree with Myria's 'mollycoddling'. After the party challenge her opinions, she spirits them home (except Ryu and Peco, who she does not know) and erases their memories, yet Peco brings them back. Myria gives Ryu the choice to stay in Eden, keeping everything normal, or to make their own world. If one chooses to go against her, whilst she is unhappy to fight 'her children', she believes the Brood are too big a threat to the world and so becomes a Fury, changing her form into something rather less attractive. The final battle commences.
10. Assuming one chooses to battle and win the fight against Myria, roughly what does Myria do after the fight?

Answer: She kneels, saying that if there is a god out there, was she right or wrong to do what she did?

She calls out for a god, if there is one. A god does not appear, but her sister, Deis, does, which seems to surprise Myria. Deis assures Myria that letting them go is the best thing to do... it's their world now. It is unknown if Myria or Deis perish here - it seems strange for Deis to come here to her doom, so perhaps she saves her sister.

Garr undergoes the Stone Sleep, as he has fulfilled his purpose, and the rest of the party successfully escape an exploding Caer Xhan. After escaping, an ending cinematic is shown of the party in a vast desert, possibly the Desert of Death, but also a possible image of how the planet might become.

The alternate ending just shows Ryu sitting in Eden. So, it is assumed that the 'proper' ending is to engage Myria in combat. However, she is not a typical villain and is not portrayed as one-sidedly evil, just overprotective.
