Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. What is the name of the little blonde pig-tailed girl who walks you through the tutorial and has problems to solve in every episode of the game?

Answer: Tiffi

Tiffi is short for Toffette, and it is essentially her saga that players are invited to join in the game. The first two episodes of the game are Candy Town and Candy Factory, and they are ten levels each. Tiffi walks players through a tutorial that lasts the first five levels of Candy Town, and then after that different specialty candies are introduced every few levels until the beginning of the third episode.
2. There are six basic candies in the game that have no special properties. Which of these is not one of them?

Answer: White chiclets

The six basic candies are red jelly beans, yellow lemon drops, blue lollipop heads, green chiclets (not white), orange lozenges, and purple clusters. The basic moves in the game involve switching two candies (or other items that appear in the game) with each other to make matches of at least three candies of one type in a row. This causes them to be crushed and disappear, earning you points and bringing more candies down in a cascade.

It is possible to make combinations that are greater than three, which brings certain bonuses. Making a row of four creates a striped candy of the same colour. When crushed, a striped candy will clear an entire row (vertical or horizontal, depending on the direction of the stripes). A set of five in a row will create a colour bomb. When crushed, a colour bomb will explode every candy of the same colour that was switched with the colour bomb. Lastly, when a T-shape, L-shape, or +-shape of five candies is made, it creates a wrapped candy. When crushed, a wrapped candy will explode, crushing the adjacent nine candies around it... and it then does it a second time after everything has settled.
3. When you switch candies so that multiple crushes occur as more candies fall down, it is called cascading. What does the voice (of Mr. Toffee) say if you get eleven or more cascades?

Answer: Divine

Mr. Toffee is the tall man with the orange hair that you meet during the tutorial. He provides the 'announcer' voice for the cascades and at the end of the round if you complete your level. For four or five cascades, he will say "sweet", and if you get six or seven you'll hear "tasty". Eight to ten cascades will earn you a "delicious", and anything more than that gets "divine".

When you complete your level, he says "sugar crush", and the number of moves you have left will translate into bonus points, either by turning the same number of normal candies into striped candies (and shooting them off one by one), or by having a number of jelly fish come and crush various candies on the screen (three fish per move left).
4. There are different 'missions' to accomplish, depending on the level. On the home screen these are designated by different coloured buttons that you select to play the different levels. Which of these is an incorrect match?

Answer: Orange / Bring down ingredients

The very first levels encountered in the game are orange in colour with a pair of arrows pointing left and right as the symbol. For orange levels you must get a certain number of points within a limited number of moves. Levels six through ten (and many more afterwards) are blue, with a picture of a rectangle on them (representing the blocks of jelly that need to be cleared).

Level 11 introduces the first green level, showing a downward-pointing arrow to represent the fruits and nuts that must be brought down. At the end of the second episode (Candy Factory) at level 20, the first purple button appears, sporting an hourglass to represent a timed level.

The first pink level, which shows a check-mark on the button, doesn't appear until the first level (126) of episode ten (Wafer Wharf). Each of these levels gives you a different set of candies to collect (i.e. - in level 126 you need 20 each of red, green and blue candies). These get progressively more difficult, also involving specialty candies.
5. Switching a striped candy with a wrapped candy causes a gigantic striped candy to appear that clears three rows and three columns.

Answer: True

Switching the special candies with each other provides some spectacular bonus help. The following are all the combinations that you can have with striped candies:

Two striped candies switched with each other will clear one column and one row (regardless of which direction the stripes were pointing);

A striped candy switched with a wrapped candy performs as described in the question;

A striped candy switched with a colour bomb will turn all candies of the same colour into striped candies, and then set them off;

A striped candy switched with a jelly fish will create three striped jelly fish, which will turn three random regular candies into striped candies, which will then shoot off; and

A striped candy switched with a coconut wheel will create (up to) three striped candies on opposite sides of the wheel, that will then shoot off perpendicular to the row they were all created in.

Wrapped candy combinations are as follows:

Two wrapped candies switched with each other will create a super explosion (5x5) around each wrapped candy, and like all wrapped candies do (even when used individually), it will happen twice;

A wrapped candy switched with a striped candy performs as described in the question;

A wrapped candy switched with a colour bomb will destroy every candy of the same colour as the wrapped candy, then do the same with another colour (whichever is the most numerous on the board);

A wrapped candy switched with a jelly fish will create three wrapped jelly fish that will turn three random candies into wrapped candies that will then detonate.

A wrapped candy switched with a coconut wheel will create an entire row or column (depending on which direction you switched them), and then detonate them all.
6. Switching a colour bomb with a jelly fish causes three 'colour bomb fish' that will turn three random candies into colour bombs, which will then detonate.

Answer: False

Colour bombs are unique specialty candies in that they can be switched with ANY other candy on the board. Here are the possible switches (exluding striped and wrapped candies which have already been discussed):

Two colour bombs switched with each other will detonate every candy on the board, including licorice swirl blockers;

A colour bomb switched with a jelly fish will create three 'colour bomb fish' that will turn three random candies into three more jelly fish each. Thus, if no blockers are chosen, a total of 12 jelly fish can be created with this switch; and

A colour bomb switched with a coconut wheel will initially activate as a normal colour bomb, then it will create an entire row or column of striped candies (depending on the direction of the switch), which will then activate, perpendicular to the row or column in which they were created.

Jelly fish are unable to switch with each other, and they never show up on the same levels as coconut wheels (Jelly fish are only on jelly levels, and coconut wheels are only on ingredients (fruits & nuts) levels).

When two coconut wheels are switched, they each take a turn creating an entire row (or column) of striped candies that immediately detonate perpendicular to the direction of the switch.
7. Various boosters are available upon reaching different levels in the game. They are available to purchase after initially getting three free to try. Which of these is not a real booster?

Answer: Chocolate spawner

A chocolate spawner is actually one of the obstacles of the game, and most definitely not a booster. Some levels begin with blocks of chocolate, which will spread one block at a time every turn that you don't destroy a chocolate block (by crushing candy adjacent to it). On levels without a chocolate spawner, the threat is gone once all the chocolate has been cleared. Chocolate spawners, as the name implies, continues to create chocolate even if all other chocolate has been cleared.

Apart from the +3 Extra Moves booster that can only be freely given to other players, here is the list of available boosters that can be purchased:

1) Lollipop Hammer - choose one square to hammer on, destroying the candy there or one level of jelly or meringue block (unlocked at level 7);
2) +5 Extra Moves - not available on timed levels (unlocked at level 8);
3) Jelly Fish (unlocked at level 9);
4) Colour Bomb (unlocked at level 13);
5) Coconut Wheel (unlocked at level 15);
6) Free Switch; a red hand that allows you to switch two candies that don't match (unlocked at level 19);
7) Extra Time - 15 extra seconds to begin timed levels (unlocked at level 27);
8) Striped & Wrapped - gives you one of each at the beginning of the round (unlocked at level 35);
9) Sweet Teeth - eats everything in its path across the board (unlocked at level 52);
10) Bomb Cooler - adds five extra moves for countdown candy bombs (unlocked at level 97);
11) Lucky Candy - a check-marked ball which will produce a special candy when crushed (unlocked at level 131);
12) Bubblegum Troll - eats all chocolate and blocks chocolate spawners for five moves (unlocked at level 156);
13) Moon Struck - available on the Dreamworld side of the game, it initiates a Moon Struck (removing one or two colours from the board for five moves).
8. In November of 2013, a parallel Dreamworld was included in the game, where a player could play mirrored versions of the daytime levels (the regular game). After which level in 'reality' is the Dreamworld unlocked?

Answer: Level 50

Every level and episode in 'reality' is mirrored in the Dreamworld. The individual levels are *nearly* all identical in their design, but there are differences to allow for the added feature of a crescent moon upon which an owl (to be named later) is perched. Two different colours of candy are assigned to each side of the crescent, and for every one of those candies that is crushed, it tips the moon to that side a little. If you overbalance the moon and make the owl fall off his perch, your level ends prematurely.
9. What is the name of the Dreamworld owl, who must not be imbalanced on his perch?

Answer: Odus

Another aspect of Odus' presence, apart from the overbalancing of the crescent moon and the potential ending of your level attempt, is the Moon Struck. Every time you crush candies, the moon fills up like a progress bar. Once the moon has been filled, the game board is Moon Struck, meaning that at least one (and sometimes both) of the colours that had been flanking the crescent moon get zapped off the board. And then none of those colours return until the Moon Struck has ended, which can last anywhere between one and five moves.

During the Moon Struck, Odus does not perch on the crescent moon, so there is no danger of overbalancing until he returns.
10. Which type of level does not appear in the Dreamworld?

Answer: Timed

The introduction of the crescent moon and the care that must be taken with keeping Odus balanced essentially negates the ability for timed levels to be effective.

In summary, "Candy Crush Saga" quickly broke all records, becoming the most popular game on Facebook. It is also available (with some minor variations in game play) on mobile devices of various platforms. These other platforms allow progress in one media to be reflected in the other. Thus, if you complete levels on your iPhone, those same levels will have been completed in the Facebook app.
