Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. At the start of the game, who does Commander Keen hear is planning to destroy the Milky Way?

Answer: Shikadi

The Shikadi were a race of translucent energy beings who were from another galaxy who were seeking to destroy the Milky Way using the Omegatech and rebuild the galaxy for Gannalech. Gannalech was actually Mortimer McMire, who is Keen's arch-nemesis.

The Vorticons are actually a dog-like species who were enslaved by Mortimer and are a central part of the story in Episodes 1, 2 & 3 of the "Commander Keen" series.

The Berkeloids are a race of fire creatures that you can only find on the Isle of Fire level of the game. They are tough enemies as you cannot stun them.
2. How many Guardians does Commander Keen need to rescue to unlock the Secret of the Oracle?

Answer: Eight

The Guardians are Council Members of the High Council. They are immortal and have the job of looking after, protecting and occasionally activating the Oracle. All 8 are required to activate the Oracle which, according to Commander Keen, is a monolith of ancient wisdom.

After Keen arrives on Gnosticus 4 he is told by a Council Page that the Shikadi have captured these guardians and hidden them amongst the Shadowlands. It is the purpose of Keen in this game to search the Shadowlands and find each of the eight Guardians.
3. Princess Lindsay can be found in Hillville. In what other location can you find the Princess?

Answer: The Chasm of Chills

Princess Lindsay is a character that only appears in "Commander Keen 4". She lives in the Shadowlands and only appears to give Keen guidance.

She wears a golden crown with diamonds on it, and a aqua dress. Her age is unknown and she may be immortal like the Gnosticenes, suggested by the fact that she can't be shot.

She has the ability to float in air and to teleport as she leaves immediately after giving Keen advice. She does hold a wand so she may be magical in some way.
4. Which of these is not one of the Pyramids of the Shadowlands?

Answer: Pyramid of the Sun

There are 4 ancient pyramids located in the Shadowlands. The pyramid not mentioned is the Pyramid of the Gnosticene Ancients.

These pyramids are built into a forest of leafy green trees. You can reach all of these pyramids by foot except for the Pyramid of the Forbidden. To reach this pyramid involves summoning the Holy Foot of the Gnostecine Ancients in the Pyramid of the Moons.
5. What item do you need to recover to enter Three-Tooth Lake?

Answer: Wetsuit

Thse items are actually part of the Wetsuit, but it still goes by the name of Wetsuit.

At Hillville, Princess Lindsay informs you that "There's gear to help you swim in Three-Tooth Lake. It's hidden in Miragia". Once you recover the wetsuit, you may enter the Three-Tooth Lake and visit the Isle of Tar, the Isle of Fire and the Well of Wishes.
6. What is the only level on which the Treasure Eaters can be found?

Answer: Pyramid of the Gnosticene Ancients

The Treasure Eaters are basically big red balls with stumpy limbs and a devious expression on their face. They do not walk but instead hop around and can also teleport themselves.

There are 4 of them living at the Pyramid of the Gnosticene Ancients and they go around stealing candy. If Keen cannot stun any of the Treasure Eaters, eventually they steal the Green Gem required to finish the level and Keen will have to start that level again.
7. What is Commander Keen's weapon of choice in his mission through the Shadowlands?

Answer: Neural Stunner

Commander Keen uses this rather weak weapon throughout "Commander Keen" Episodes 4, 5 & 6. The weapon cannot kill any enemies, instead it leaves them stunned for a period of time. Some creatures are only stunned for a short period of time, while there are a number of creatures that are immune to the Stunner's effects.

Both the Vorticon HyperPistol and the Raygun were used by Keen in earlier episodes. They both had the ability to kill enemies.

The Neural Ray Blaster was the final weapon Keen used. It also operates as a stunner, however it is even weaker than the Neural Stunner. Keen was required to use his pogostick to actually kill any enemies that were stunned.
8. What is the preferred food of the Dopefish?

Answer: Heroes

The Dopefish can only be found in the Well of Wishes level of the game.

The Dopefish is the second-dumbest creature in the universe, its thought patterns go "swim swim hungry, swim swim hungry." It eats anything alive and moving near them, but they do prefer heroes. However, the Dopefish is reluctant to eat Sprites as they shoot energy blasts.

The Dopefish is a reference to Douglas Adams' "Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy" which describes the dumbest creature in the universe as the Ravenous Bugblatter Beast of Traal. A creature which has similar habits to the Dopefish.
9. What creatures do you need to collect to summon the Holy Foot of the Gnosticene Ancients?

Answer: Inchworms

Inchworms are creatures that are seen all over the Shadowlands. They are harmless creatures and will make a habit of following you around.

In the Pyramid of the Moons, Keen can collect twelve of these inchworms together at the bottom of the level. Once twelve of them are together, the Giant Foot will appear. After all, twelve inches equals a foot. Clever, eh?

The Holy Foot of the Gnosticene Ancients will then take you to the Pyramid of the Forbidden. Princess Lindsay hints this to you in the Chasm of Chills, when she states "The way to the Pyramid of the Forbidden lies under the Pyramid of Moons."

The Foot itself was once part of a giant statue, the only surviving piece of the great statue of the ancients that once stood by the Pyramid of the Gnosticene Ancients.
10. In the Pyramid of the Forbidden you find what looks like one of the Guardians. What is he exactly?

Answer: Janitor

The Pyramid of the Forbidden is the secret level of "Commander Keen 4" and is possibly the most difficult level in the game.

At the end of the level, Commander Keen finds a man who appears to be a Council Member but is actually just the janitor. Apparently he tried to tell the Shikadi he was not a Council Member, but they didn't listen.
