Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. The Ascalonian Catacombs is located deep beneath the Plains of Ashford, and is home to a horde of Ascalonian ghosts, still lamenting the destruction of their land by the Charr. Which figure of Ascalonian history awaits players at the end of the story mode path?

Answer: King Adelbern

After players receive a message informing them that Eir Stegalkin is in the Ascalonian Catacombs looking for the legendary sword Magdaer, they team up with Rytlock Brimstone to track her down and rescue her. Unfortunately, this angers the spirit of King Adelbern, who vows to summon forth an army of Ascalonians and wipe the party out. Rytlock decides the best course of action is to create a trap to hopefully lure Adelbern out of hiding, when he can be silenced for good. Before this, however, the party must hunt down and slay the four champions of Adelbern: Master Ranger Nente, Kasha Blackblood, Ralena Stormbringer and Vassar. Once these four are down, Adelbern is battled in the heart of the dungeon, where he summoned the Foefire all those years ago and destroyed Ascalon.
2. Each of the final bosses in the three explorable paths of Ascalonian Catacombs is a graveling. Which of these is not one of these boss gravelings?

Answer: Graveling Broodmother

After King Adelbern is removed from the dungeon, the Durmand Priory moves in and begins their exploration to uncover artifacts and discover what secrets may be lurking in the shadows. In the first explorable path, players team up with Hodgins to look for ancient Ascalonian scepters, before facing off against the first of the graveling bosses, The Howling King. The path is complete once this boss is down.

Path two sees players accompanying Detha Tremblebones on a mission through the catacombs, killing off hordes of gravelings and hatchlings, before a tough fight against the Ascalonians themselves as the party fights to protect Detha from the ghosts while she repairs three cannons. Once the cannons are in working order, The Ghost Eater appears, ready for a fight. Slaying The Ghost Eater completes the path.

The third path in the catacombs involves disguising the party as Ascalonians (thanks to the ecto-undeath distillate collected by Tzark) and working with the Ascalonian Warmaster Grast to wipe out the remaining gravelings, climaxing with a fight against the Colossus Rumblus. This fight marks the end of the third path.
3. Minister Caudecus' Manor is located in the heart of Kryta, near the town of Beetletun. In the story mode path, players must make their way through the manor and the grounds to rescue which figure of Krytan politics?

Answer: Queen Jennah

The dungeon begins with a garden party where Queen Jennah is planning to meet a Charr ambassador in regards to a treaty between the two races. Uzolan, an inventor, interrupts the party with his golem, and in the ensuing chaos, kidnaps Queen Jennah. Players then fight their way through the dungeon, fending off Separatists and outlaws to find Jennah being guarded by an elite Separatist captain.
4. Each of the three explorable paths of Twilight Arbor see players heading through and wiping out more Nightmare Courtiers and stopping the Nightmare Tree from causing havoc. The party is accompanied by Morrigu, who is able to open paths at a few points that lead deeper into the Arbor, giving them the choice to continue forward or go up. Which of these is not a path that players are able to take?

Answer: Up + Up

Each explorable path starts out the same: players make their way down a trail guarded by wolves, husks and Volatile Blossoms and defeat six Nightmare Vines, including a champion boss vine. After this, players are presented with their first choice: go up or continue forward.

Going up yields no further path choices, and sees players fighting Malrona, a spider boss, Fyonna, a Nightmare Court lieutenant, and finally the Nightmare Tree.

Going forwards leads to a small room with more Nightmare Courtiers waiting to ambush players. Once the room is clear, there is another choice: go up or continue forward.

Going up leads to the Defiler, a nightmare husk, Vevina, a powerful Nightmare court mesmer, and, once again, the Nightmare Tree. Going forwards instead of up, leads to Leurant, the Count of Blood, and the Nightmare Tree.

Each fight against the Nightmare Tree employs different mechanics: in the 'up' path, it creates sylvari plant mortars which attack players; in the 'forward/up' path, it summons forth waves of spiders which can prove to be a nuisance thanks to their poison; in the 'forward/forward' path, the tree spawns oakhearts that can immobilise and knock back party members.
5. Kudu, a former apprentice of the asura Snaff, is up to no good in Sorrow's Embrace, a location somewhat familiar to players of the original "Guild Wars", and Zojja, who also worked under Snaff, is there to stop Kudu. In a tense and fiery final battle, who, or what, is fought by the party?

Answer: The Iron Forgeman

Caithe and Eir join the party to hunt for Zojja in Sorrow's Embrace, who is desperate to discover what happened to Snaff's research and who is using it for evil rather than good. When the team finds Zojja, they also find that Snaff's former apprentice Kudu is responsible for the chaos.

After quite a long and somewhat difficult fight against Kudu, the Iron Forgeman seems simple in comparison. However, what makes this fight unique is that players cannot harm the Forgeman directly using regular attacks. Rather, grubs spawn intermittently which drop boulders upon their death. Players then pick these boulders up and throw them at the Forgeman.

It seems simple on the surface, but throw in occasional lava flows and a devastating lava 'beam' attack, and it becomes quite tricky indeed.
6. The Citadel of Flame is the primary base for the Flame Legion. In the story mode path, parties must stop which charr boss from completing a ritual and elevating himself to god-like status?

Answer: Gaheron Baelfire

Logan Thackeray and Rytlock Brimstone join proceedings in this dungeon, though their relationship is as rocky as ever. The ultimate aim of the story mode path is to prevent Gaheron Baelfire from becoming a god to the Flame Legion, the consequences of which would be dire.

The party is shielded from most of his attacks, though to actually do damage to Baelfire means leaving the safety of the shield, picking up pieces of molten rock and lobbing them at him, whilst dodging his flame attacks and rock walls. Hitting him enough times will temporarily interrupt his ritual and players have a brief window in which to damage him.
7. Putting a stop to further Flame Legion activities is the main focus of each of the three explorable paths in the Citadel of Flame. Which of these is a specialist in explosives and subsequently accompanies players through the second of the dungeon's explorable paths?

Answer: Scholar Magg

In path one, players escort Crusader Ferrah through the Citadel to destroy the Flame Legion 'superweapon', a huge Searing Effigy.

In path two, Scholar Magg comes along as the party tries to prevent Gaheron Baelfire from coming back to life. Magg's expertise in explosives and demolition comes in handy here, as the party searches for various minerals to create Magg's 'kaboomium', which is eventually used to break open the door to the final chamber, where the Flame Legion's Eternal Flame resides. Flame Legion acolytes protect the Eternal Flame, as does the spirit of Baelfire himself.

In path three, Agent Rhiannon is on a mission to kill Tribune Burntclaw, who may just be the next Gaheron Baelfire. Killing Burntclaw prevents his eventual apotheosis.
8. The great kodan ice ship Honor of the Waves is sinking. In the story mode, parties must rescue which important figure of the kodan people?

Answer: The Voice

One of the kodan aboard Honor of the Waves, the Claw, assists parties as they make their way through the icebrood and Sons of Svanir infesting the sinking ship to where the Voice, leader of the kodan, is being held captive. Parties must also fight the Voice and prevent submitting to the Sons of Svanir.

The last fight of the dungeon sees players battling the elite Son of Svanir Kodan's Bane and his pet, Bane's Teeth. Once they are both down, the dungeon is complete.
9. Located in Mount Maelstrom is the Crucible of Eternity, an asuran research centre run by the Inquest. In the explorable paths, players join Agent Spire as they race to escape the facility before it is destroyed. Which of these is not an explorable path, and therefore not a way of getting out of the Crucible?

Answer: Airship

The Crucible of Eternity needs to be shut down, and players are given three options as to their escape route: submarine, teleporter, or simply through the front door. Though the facility may be collapsing, the security system still functions, and Inquest golems will be on hand to impede the party's progress and prevent them from continuing.

A captive creature known as Subject Alpha assaults the party on no less than three separate occasions on each of the three explorable paths, using different attacks each time.
10. Arah is the eighth story-based dungeon in "Guild Wars 2". In the story mode path, players fight their way through the undead and face off once and for all against the Elder Dragon Zhaitan. In the four explorable paths of this dungeon, one very powerful boss in particular is fought on every path. Is this boss called Giganticus Lupicus?

Answer: Yes

The Giganticus Lupicus were the legendary giants who roamed Tyria before the gods arrived and brought all the other races with them. One particular specimen remains (in an undead state, mind you), and assaults players as they make their way through each of Arah's four explorable paths.

This fight is perhaps the most difficult one on each of the paths, due to its immense power and devastating area-of-effect attacks. The fight takes place over three stages, with Giganticus Lupicus going invulnerable briefly to indicate the shift from one stage to another.

It is vital for players to stay spread out and to attack from afar, dodging and using their available mobility skills to remain alive. Once this giant is dead, players are able to proceed with their chosen path.
