Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many different horse running-types (e.g. Front Runner) are there in 'Derby Owners Club World Edition'?

Answer: 5

The 5 running types are: Front Runner, Start Dash, Last Spurt, Stretch Runner, and Almighty. Almightys are hard to get, but they do exist.
2. What is the main statistic in determining a horse's running-type?

Answer: Start

A horse's running-type is determined by it's Start stat. To figure out a horse's running-type, do the following: Ignore the Corner stat, and then compare it's Start stat to the rest of the remaining stats. If the Start stat is the highest, the horse is a Front Runner. If it's the second highest stat, the horse is a Start Dash. If it's the third highest stat, the horse is a Last Spurt. And finally if it's the fourth or fifth highest stat, it is a Stretch Runner. If the start stat is tied with another stat, Start gets the higher priority.
3. Which one of these do not describe an Almighty horse?

Answer: None of these

Again, the Corner stat is irrelevant. The only requirement for a horse to become an Almighty horse is for all of its stats to be equal (excluding corner). Also if all the stats are maxed out, that means that ALL the stats are equal.
4. Which of these tracks do not exist in 'Derby Owners Club World Edition'?

Answer: Hitmaker

The 6 tracks that do exist are Eastern City, Western Hill, Central City, Northern Park, Southern Park, and Sega.
5. The Winter Stakes, Japan Cup Dirt, and Japan Cup are all G-1 races raced on this track.

Answer: Eastern City

Ironically enough, in the Japanese version of this game (DOC 2000) the race was held on the Tokyo track. Tokyo literally translates out to Eastern Capital. So it makes sense to have the Japan Cups on this track.
6. In order for a horse to enter a Grade 1 (G-1) race, how much total prize earnings must it have?

Answer: $1,000,000

Your horse becomes "Grade 1 Eligible" after it has earned $1,000,000 in total prize money.
7. When breeding a horse in 'Derby Owners Club World Edition', there are different symbols that represent the stats for each parent horse. Which of these is the best symbol?

Answer: Double Circle

From best to worst, the 4 symbols are: Double Circle, Circle, Triangle, and then X. Breed horses that have a lot of circles and if you're lucky, double circles and you'll have good stats for the offspring.
8. Which one of the following are not one of the available training methods for your horse?

Answer: Group Training

There are 4 types of training: Pool Training, Solo Training, Cooperative Training, and Rest.
9. Which one of these words appear on the screen when you do a training session perfectly?

Answer: Great!!

When you complete a training perfectly, you get a Great! rating and then you are rewarded with special food for your horse.
10. What special food can you obtain only by doing a Solo Training session perfectly?

Answer: Cube Sugar

Cube Sugar provides a big boost to your horse's Out of the Box, Competitive, and Spurt stats.
11. What kind of race is the first race in every race cycle?

Answer: Handicap Race

The first race in every race cycle is a Handicap Race. This race allows horses (usually young horses) with less total earnings to win. Each horse is handicapped based on the amount of total earnings it has. The more earnings a horse has, the bigger of a handicap the horse will shoulder.
12. Which one of the following is not a horse personality type in 'Derby Owners Club World Edition'?

Answer: Shy

There are a total of 5 different horse personality types: Imposing, Rough, Honest, Sloppy, and Coward. You can figure out what type of personality your horse has by pressing the hold button during the "farm" scene while waiting to enter a race.
13. What do the following G-1 races have in common: DOC 1000 Guineas, Hong Kong/American Oaks, Queen Elizabeth II Cup?

Answer: All are mare only races

All are mare only races, meaning that if your horse isn't female and G-1 Eligible, it can't enter the race.
14. This is the longest G-1 race in the game.

Answer: Spring Classic

The Spring Classic is 3,200 meters long. The Stayers Stakes is right behind at 3,000 meters. The Japan Cup and the Sprinters Stakes are 2,400 and 1,200 meters respectively.
15. The earliest you can retire a horse is after it has run this many races.

Answer: 20

After a horse runs its 20th race, the game will ask you if you want to retire your horse. This option is available from that point on meaning that you can retire it at any time you please after it's 20th race.
