Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. When you first play "Doctor Who: Legacy" and have finished the tutorial, which three team members do you have to start playing with?

Answer: Eleventh Doctor, Madam Vastra and Jenny Flint

After you download "Doctor Who: Legacy" and open it for the first time, you play through a tutorial level (which you don't play again). In the tutorial, the Eleventh Doctor and Madam Vastra land the TARDIS in modern day Cardiff and find some Sontarans. On successfully defeating the Sontarans, Jenny Flint drops as a new character.

The other companions listed drop in later levels.
2. Which of these best describes the type of game that "Doctor Who: Legacy" is?

Answer: "Doctor Who: Legacy" is a match three type game.

The game producers, Susan and Lee Cummings wanted to develop a game for mobile (cell) phones and approached the BBC for permission on another show which the BBC refused. Lee had been a lifelong fan of "Doctor Who" and then suggested "Doctor Who" as an alternative.

The BBC asked what Lee and Susan had in mind and then granted permission. They made the game a non-violent game so the Doctor and his companions don't actually use guns to attack their opponents.
3. Not all characters and companions who appeared in "Doctor Who" are in the game. Which of these is NOT a reason why they are not available in "Doctor Who: Legacy" yet?

Answer: There are only human characters or companions in "Doctor Who: Legacy" which can drop.

There are several non-human in-game companions that drop, including Madam Vastra (a Silurian), K9 ( a robot dog), and vehicles including The Whomobile and Bessie.

The developers have stated that some characters - eg The Master or Davros will never become companions as per the BBC's licensing. The Master was another Time Lord and a former class-mate of The Doctor. In their youth they were friends but had philosophical disagreements and fell out.

Davros was the creator of the Daleks. He was a scientist on the Daleks' home planet Skaro.

Both The Master and Davros are enemies of The Doctor and the BBC has explicitly stated that enemies will not be companions.

In "Doctor Who: Legacy", there are at least two Daleks who do become droppable companions - Oswin Oswald and Rusty the Dalek. They were not enemies of the Doctor as they aided him when he encountered him.

The specific artists (or the estate of the artist) who performed the role have to agree for their likeness to be used in the game. The producers liaise with the BBC before putting new content in the game.

While the BBC and their affiliated networks screened Season 8, "Doctor Who: Legacy" released a new level per week which related to the "Doctor Who" episode screened.

The game developers (The Tiny Rebel Team of Lee and Susan Cummings) discuss and continually request feedback from people who play "Doctor Who: Legacy", via forums including FaceBook, Twitter, Twitch and regular email updates. They have in the past requested feed-back from game players as to characters that they want in the game and favourite costumes for the characters (eg the Fourth Doctor's red coat and scarf or Rory's 'Centurion' costume).
4. As you play "Doctor Who: Legacy", you notice that various coloured shapes drop when you eliminate an enemy (such as a yellow hexagon or a blue hourglass). What do you do with them?

Answer: You use them to level up characters.

As you defeat enemies, you earn experience points that level your characters up. At the end of every ten levels you can level up your characters to the next level.

For most companions, this is how you can level up:
From level 10 to 11 - two fragments of two colours (eg two red and two blue)
From level 20 to 21 - six fragments of two colours plus six pink fragments
From level 30 to 31 - 10 fragments of two colours plus 10 pink fragments
From level 40 to 41 - 20 fragments of two colours plus three 'special' fragments

"Doctor Who: Legacy" is not an energy based game and in the main section/storyline you pass the level in order to unlock the next. (IE unlike some games, you don't need to pester friends for points to move on to the next stage.)

The benefits of leveling up your companions is the team gets stronger and more able to beat levels. When you level up from 40 to 41, your characters get a 'minor' colour as well as a major colour.

When leveling up characters, you go into the 'TARDIS' tab and click on either the Doctor tab or the Companions tab.
5. There are five different colours that your characters in "Doctor Who: Legacy" could be. What are the five colours?

Answer: Red, yellow, blue, black and green

The enemies that you face are also green, black, red, blue and yellow.

To.'fight' your enemies in each level, you match up three or more gems in a horizontal or vertical line. Team members of the corresponding colour generate damage points against your enemy. "Doctor Who: Legacy" is a turn-based game so the enemy will attack back. The turns continue until either all enemies are defeated or your team loses all their health points.

Generally:
Green is stronger against blue and weaker against red.
Blue is stronger against red and weaker against blue.
Red is stronger against green and weaker against blue.
Black is stronger against yellow, and yellow is stronger against black.

Madam Vastra is a yellow character, Clara Oswald is red, Rose Tyler is green, K9 is black and Mickey Smith is blue.

There are no pink characters. However, you can match up three or more pink gems which add health to your team.
6. If you want to change your team in "Doctor Who: Legacy" around, what tab do you go into from the side bar?

Answer: Team

You might want to change your team around to level up characters, or because on some levels you need characters with other strengths or abilities. (For example, in a level where your enemy poisons you, a character who cures poison is a big help!) As you are playing, you can have one Doctor character and up to five Companion characters in the team at the one time.

The 'TARDIS' is where you would go to level characters up or change their costumes if available.

The 'Fan Area' is a section of the game where people who have bought at least five Time Crystals can access exclusive content. This includes otherwise unavailable characters, costumes, or sneak peeks at game levels or enemy abilities.
7. There is one set of levels in "Doctor Who: Legacy" which is a side story, the costumes and artwork in the game is very retro. What is this section in the 'Special' tab called?

Answer: Bigger on the Inside

The 'Expert' Levels are configured for people with teams set between 41 - 50. They are very difficult so great if you want a challenge. They drop 'Expert' versions of selected characters.

The 'Advent' Levels were released leading up to Christmas 2014. Leading up to Christmas 2013, the Tiny Rebel Team released special codes to unlock characters, character costumes or time fragments each day. The characters in 2013 Advent later became drop-able characters in the game for those who missed out on the special codes.

The 'Challenge Levels' have varying degrees of difficulty but have pre-set characters you have to use.

The 'Bigger on the Inside' levels are set at level 40 teams and are a side-story in which a computer virus has invaded the TARDIS and as a result all the characters and settings are pixelated (as in retro 1980's type graphics). Because it is a side story it is optional to the game.
8. "Doctor Who: Legacy" has over 100 companions that can drop. Does this include companions or characters who appeared in non-televised adventures such as audio plays, comics or novels?

Answer: Yes

Between 1989 - 2005, 'Doctor Who' was not shown on television. During that time, the BBC still released books (such as 'The Virgin New Adventures'). There were also audio plays released by Big Finish Productions. Titan Comics has also released Doctor Who Adventure featuring the 10th, 11th and 12th Doctors.

Some companions who cames from non-televised sources include:
8th Doctor's companion - Charlotte Elspeth Pollard (Big Finish Productions)
War Doctor's companion - Cinder (the novel, 'Engines of War')
10th Doctor's companion - Gabby (Titan Comics)
11th Doctor's companion - Alice (Titan Comics)
9. In the main storyline of "Doctor Who: Legacy" (ie not the special episodes), who was the first character that was not one of the Doctors, to drop as a Doctor character?

Answer: Professor River Song

In the storyline in Chapter 4, the TARDIS lands in The Library (the largest library in the universe) and the Doctors all vanish from the TARDIS.

Professor River Song appears and leads the companions through The Library to collect Allison Dochety's diary. Once they collect the diary and return to the TARDIS the Doctors reappear in the TARDIS.

In the TV series, Allison Docherty was a character in an alternate universe who help Martha Jones discover how to beat an enemy called The Tochlofane. Although the alternate universe disappeared, Allison Docherty's diary was kept in The Library.
10. "Doctor Who: Legacy" was released in November 2013. What important event in "Doctor Who" history does this coincide with?

Answer: The 50th Anniversary of the first transmission of "Doctor Who".

On 23 November 2013, the BBC plus its ancillary broadcasters throughout the world set the Guinness World Record for the most watched simultaneous broadcast for a TV show that was not a sporting event. This was for the 50th Anniversary episode of "Doctor Who", called 'The Day of the Doctor'.

The Game "Doctor Who: Legacy" was launched on 16 November 2013, a week before the Anniversary.
