Question 1 of 10
1. Throughout "Pokémon Yellow, Red, and Blue", there are many Pokémon which can be captured. Some weaker Pokémon like Pidgey and Rattata can be captured early in the game while some like Gastly and Seel are only found in very few places. A good place to find Pokémon is the Safari Zone. Here you can find Dratini, Chansey, and Scyther. Dragonair is even found here in "Pokémon Yellow". Of course, if you want a Scyther can always be found at the Game Corner in Celadon City if you don't want to catch it. Other places to find wild Pokémon are the Pokémon Mansion, Power Plant, and Victory Road.

Where did I make my error in this paragraph?

Question 2 of 10
2. A great feature of the "Pokémon" games is the ability to evolve your Pokémon into stronger forms. For example, evolving your Diglett into a Dugtrio can not only make it better, but it adds another Pokémon to your Pokédex. Although many Pokémon, such as the Kangaskhan and the Snorlax can't be evolved, some Pokémon can be evolved once and even twice. For example, Gastly evolves into Haunter at level 25, and then into Gengar at level 42. Some Pokémon require a little help to evolve though. Weepinbell needs a Leaf Stone to evolve into Victreebel. In "Pokémon Yellow", it's impossible for your starter Pokémon, Pikachu, to evolve.

What is the error in this paragraph?
Hint

Question 3 of 10
3. Items are quite important factors in helping your Pokémon succeed and helping you become the greatest Pokémon trainer. Items in the game can range from abundant, such as Potions and Pokéballs, and rare such as Carbos and Calcium. Many of these items can be bought in the Celadon City Department Store at various prices, but some are quite rare. Rare Candies, for example, can not be bought in any store. Some Evolution Stones can also be used to evolve Pokémon such as Growlithe, Poliwag, and Exeggcute. These can be bought on the fourth floor of the Department Store. Some items, like Antidote and Awakening, will cure Pokémon status effects. Full Heal will heal any status effect, but not low HP.

My facts aren't straight here. What did I get wrong?
Hint

Question 4 of 10
4. In nearly every city, you can fight a gym leader for a badge at their gyms. There are eight badges throughout Kanto for you to collect, and each leader uses different types of Pokémon. Brock, for example, is in Pewter City, and he uses rock-type Pokémon, while Erika, in Celadon City, uses grass-type Pokémon. Some towns, such as Lavender Town, Pallet Town, and Viridian City have no gym at all, yet Saffron City contains two of them! After defeating a gym leader, you'll receive your badge and a TM such as Bide (TM 34) or Psywave (TM 46). The final gym leader gives you the TM containing Fissure.

As the editor of my quiz, you should have caught this one. What's the factual error in this summary?
Hint

Question 5 of 10
5. The people you meet in this game will be crucial in your quest to become an ultimate Pokémon champion. Professor Oak, for example, will give you your starting Pokémon and your Pokédex. You'll be able to contact him from Pokécenters throughout the game. Bill is also important, being the creator of the Pokémon storage system. He'll also give you an S. S. Anne Ticket which in turn will get you HM01 (Flash). This can be used to get you through the Rock Tunnel with ease. Your rival on the other hand, will be ahead of you throughout the game, and during your final battle with him at the Indigo Plateau, you'll have to summon up all of your strength and become the best trainer in Kanto.

What's not true about this paragraph?
Hint

Question 6 of 10
6. Kanto is a big place, and during the course of the game, you'll cover most of it. Lavender Town, for example, is a place you'll visit more than once. You'll pass through it on your way out of the Rock Tunnel, and you'll return to it with the Silph Scope so that you can help Mr. Fuji. A lot of these places are inaccessible without certain items. For example, you need a Pokéflute to reach Fuchsia City and HM03 to reach Cinnabar Island. Pokémon also reflect their area. Water Pokémon can be found in Seafoam Island while ground Pokémon, like Onix and Graveler are in Diglett Cave.

I should stop while I'm ahead. There must be an error seen in there. What's wrong with this?
Hint

Question 7 of 10
7. Pokémon can be different types, and have different strengths and weaknesses. Because of this, Pokémon have many different possible attacks and techniques. Fire Pokémon may have strong attacks like Fire Blast and Ember, but water Pokémon will not be as affected by these as grass-type Pokémon. Attacks like Poisonpowder and Sleep Powder are grass-type moves, and they won't do any damage, but they'll affect the opponent in some way. Pokémon can also learn attacks using TMs and HMs. All HMs will directly damage a Pokémon when used.

Where is my error in this paragraph?
Hint

Question 8 of 10
8. There are some Pokémon in the game which will be more difficult to catch than others. Articuno, for example, is one of the three legendary bird Pokémon in the game and it can be found at Seafoam Island. It learns moves up to level 60, which include Blizzard, Agility, and Mist. Zapdos and Moltres are the other two Pokémon, and one of these is found in the Power Plant. Mewtwo, possibly the rarest Pokémon in the game, is found in the unknown dungeon to the south of Cerulean City. There is only one Hitmonlee and one Hitmonchan in each game. There is also only one Aerodactyl.

What's the error in this one?
Hint

Question 9 of 10
9. There are many differences that set each game apart. "Pokémon Yellow, Red, and Blue" each have Pokémon unique to their own games. For example, Ekans is only found in the wild in "Pokémon Red". Magmar is the only Pokémon exclusively caught in "Pokémon Blue". Pokémon owned by each gym leader can be different as well! Brock, for example, has differently leveled Pokémon, while Koga has different Pokémon altogether between "Pokémon Yellow" and "Pokémon Red or Blue". The biggest difference is the surfer in Fuchsia City, which can be interacted with in "Pokémon Yellow".

In this paragraph of differences, what is the only statement that's different and incorrect?
Hint

Question 10 of 10
10. The end of the game is quite basic. Fight through the Elite Four, and beat your rival in order to become the greatest Pokémon Master. So, get to the Indigo Plateau and begin the fight. Your first battle is against Lorelei, who hones her ice Pokémon, such as Dewgong and Lapras. Bruno is the second, and his Pokémon, ranging from level 53 to 58, will each be fighting or rock-type. The third, Agatha, uses ghost Pokémon, while Lance uses dragon-type Pokémon (including Pokémon #147: Dragonite). After this, you can battle your rival. Your rival will always use an Alakazam, but in each game, they'll have different Pokémon based on which Pokémon they started with, and what it evolved into. Their final Pokémon will always be level 65. After you beat your rival, you and Professor Oak will end the game.

What's the wrong fact in my final paragraph of the quiz?

Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts

Answer: Scyther isn't always found in the Game Corner.

Scyther can't always be found in the Game Corner in Celadon City because Scyther can't be found anywhere in "Pokémon Blue". When you're at the Game Corner in different games, you'll get to choose between different Pokémon. "Pokémon Yellow" features Scythers and Pinsirs, "Pokémon Red" has Dratinis and Scythers, and "Pokémon Blue" has Pinsirs and Dratinis.

The Pokémon Mansion is found on Cinnabar Island and it contains fire-type Pokémon, and although Victory Road does contain trainers, Pokémon such as Machamp, Marowak, and Graveler can be found there. Dragonair can be captured in the Safari Zone, but only in "Pokémon Yellow".

Answer: Haunter evolves into Gengar through trading.

Gengar is one of four Pokémon that can only be acquired through trading in these three games. The other three are Golem, Alakazam, and Machamp. Despite this, you can still raise very powerful Haunters, Gravelers, Kadabras, and Machokes. Some Pokémon are only evolved through the use of evolution stones such as the Leaf Stone and Fire Stone. Usually, once these are evolved, they don't learn any new attacks, but some like Vaporeon, Flareon, and Jolteon will continue to learn moves.

The most rare evolution stone, the Moon Stone, can only be used on a few Pokémon such as Nidoqueen, Nidoking, Jigglypuff, and Clefairy. Moon Stones can be found in different places around Kanto. Snorlax can't be evolved at all, and there are only two in the game. Kangaskhans are also unevolvable.

They're caught in the Safari Zone. Although Pikachu can be evolved (and caught) in "Pokémon Red and Blue", he is the starting Pokémon in "Pokémon Yellow", and in order to stay true to the "Pokémon" animé show, he can't evolve.

Answer: Poliwag doesn't evolve with an evolution stone.

Poliwag will evolve into Poliwhirl at level 25, and then you can use a Water Stone to evolve into Poliwrath. Other Pokémon that use Water Stones are Eevee and Cloyster. The Department Store in Celadon City is the largest Pokémart in the game and it features nearly everything that a trainer can ever need. On the six floors, one can get four TMs, evolved Pokémon, and even power-ups. Evolution Stones can be bought for 2,100 dollars each, but some can be found in the wild as well.

The only stone found outside the store is the Moon Stone, which can be used to evolve Jigglypuffs, Nidorinos, Nidoqueens, and Clefairies. Full Heal isn't found in every Pokémart, but it costs 600 dollars.

Answer: Viridian City has a gym.

Viridian City contains the eighth and final gym which includes Giovanni. This is where you'll get your final badge on your journey. Viridian City is also the second city in the game although the gym leader isn't in it until the end of the game. During the course of the game, you'll need to defeat Giovanni in the Game Corner, Silph Co., and within his gym. Also, after most gym leader battles, they'll give you some good news.

For example, after fighting Misty, all Pokémon up to level 30 will obey you. Or, if you defeat Koga in battle, your Pokémon will be able to use the HM for Surf outside of battle.

Answer: HM01 is not Flash.

HM01 is actually Cut, and it's given to you by the captain of the S. S. Anne in Vermilion City. Cut can be taught to a certain amount of Pokémon, and like all other HMs, it can be used over and over, and outside of battle. To talk to Professor Oak, you need to select Professor Oak's PC at the Pokécenter and he'll give you a rating on your Pokédex. Bill won't give you the Master Ball, but the owner of Silph Co. in Saffron City will. Your first battle is in Pallet Town.

Answer: Onix and Graveler are not found in Diglett Cave.

Only Digletts and Dugtrios can be found in Diglett Cave. Onixes and Gravelers can be found on Victory Road, and other rock-type Pokémon are in the Rock Tunnel and Mt. Moon. HM03 (Surf) is required to reach Cinnabar Island for the first time since you must swim to it to reach it. Fuchsia City can be accessed, but you MUST have the Pokéflute to do so.

The only ways to reach the city are from the south (through water), and through the east and west. HM03 (Surf) is only found in the Safari Zone, so that's not an option, and Snorlaxes block the routes around the city, so you require the Pokéflute. You must pass through Lavender Town to reach Celadon City and retrieve the Silph Scope.

Answer: Not all HMs do direct damage.

Poisonpowder is one of the attacks that will poison a Pokémon (if it affects them and doesn't miss). Therefore, every time your affected Pokémon attacks, it will take damage unless it heals or knocks out its opponent. Both Poisonpowder and Sleep Powder are grass-type attacks, and so is Stun Spore. Oddly, all three of these are learned by Butterfree and Venonat. Flash is the only HM which will not damage a Pokémon, but it will blind your opponent and greatly reduce their accuracy. Since water is strong against fire Pokémon, it takes less damage than a grass-type Pokémon. All Pokémon have a strength and weakness.

Answer: The Unknown Dungeon is north of Cerulean City.

The Unknown Dungeon is on Route 24 to the north of Cerulean City. In "Pokémon Yellow", this route also contains a Charmander, and in all three games, it's home to Nugget Bridge. To reach the Unknown Dungeon, you must teach HM03 (Surf) to a Pokémon. Aerodactyl can be created at the Pokémon Lab in Cinnabar Island if you bring them Old Amber from Pewter City. If you catch an Articuno, it will be at level 50, and it will have Ice Beam and Peck as its default attacks.

It learns Blizzard at level 51, Agility at level 55, and Mist at level 60. Zapdos is caught in the Power Plant while Moltres is on Victory Road.

Answer: Magmar isn't the only Pokémon not caught in "Pokémon Red and Yellow".

Meowth and Persian are also Pokémon which can not be captured in "Pokémon Red and Yellow", though it's possible to catch Meowths on every route connected to Saffron City and evolve them into Persians. The surfer's mini-game is only completed with the Surfing Pikachu, and it's found to the southern tip of Fuchsia City (on the seaside). Koga will have three Venonats and a Venomoth in "Pokémon Yellow", but he has two Koffings, a Muk, and a Weezing in "Pokémon Red and Blue". Brock's Geodude and Onix are levels 10 and 12 respectively in "Pokémon Yellow", but they are 12 and 14 in "Pokémon Red or Blue".

This is due to the fact that you will begin with an electric-type Pikachu whose lightning attacks will not affect rock-type Pokémon whatsoever. My suggestion: evolve yourself a Butterfree and have it learn Confusion.

Answer: Dragonite is Pokémon #149.

Dragonite is the penultimate Pokémon to be listed numerically in the Pokédex (third-to-last if you include Mew). Dratini, the basic, non-evolved form of Dragonite, is #147. Lance also uses Gyarados, two Dragonairs and an Aerodactyl. Your rival's final Pokémon will be Flareon, Vaporeon, or Jolteon depending on what happens in "Pokémon Yellow" or Squirtle, Bulbasaur, or Charmander based on what Pokémon you choose in "Pokémon Red or Blue". Regardless, this Pokémon will always end up being level 65. Your rival's Alakazam will always be level 59, and it'll always be the second Pokémon they use. Bruno's Pokémon do range from level 53 to 58 with the highest being a level 58 Machamp.

Thanks for editing my quiz! Hopefully, it should be ready to sent to the video game queue! :)
