Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. As was expected, Halloween celebrations returned to Tyria once again in October 2014. Was this year's event a brand new celebration?

Answer: No

The Halloween celebrations were a redux of the previous year's "Blood and Madness" release and remained largely unchanged. A few minor additions found their way in, though the most significant change was actually to the game's Gem Store which saw an overhaul of the currency exchange mechanism and an attempt to simplify the process of trading in-game gold for gems and vice versa.
2. The long-awaited "Echoes of the Past" release came in early November 2014, introducing a new zone called the Silverwastes. From which existing Tyrian zone could players access the Silverwastes?

Answer: Brisban Wildlands

Like Dry Top before it, the Silverwastes were also accessible from Brisban Wildlands, in an area which, up until that point, had been barricaded off and caused a great deal of chatter amongst players about what could be on the other side. The Silverwastes introduced a new zone-specific mechanic that repeats on an indefinite cycle. Players venture outwards from the Pact base at Camp Resolve to maintain defences at four key outposts across the zone, keeping Mordremoth's minions at bay as they launch continuous assaults. Completion of these assault events adds to that outpost's fortification meter. Once all four are at maximum defence, a new event is triggered whereby the ground opens up beneath each and players can enter tunnels below the surface to defeat some of Mordremoth's champions. All players in the zone participating in this meta event are rewarded according to how many champions are slain within the time limit.
3. "Echoes of the Past" also brought with it two new armour sets, obtainable exclusively through continued play in the Silverwastes. Which of these are those armour sets?

Answer: Carapace and luminescent armour

The processes of acquiring these two similar-looking armour sets are interconnected, as luminescent armour pieces cannot be obtained before the corresponding carapace piece. Although introduced in "Echoes of the Past", it was not until much later at the conclusion of Season 2 of the Living World that all pieces were finally obtainable (pieces were staggered across the releases). Where carapace armour pieces were obtained from armour boxes as rewards for playing through story content, defeating certain bosses, or purchasing directly from Pact quartermasters, luminescent armour pieces were obtained by completing collections, requiring 10 separate items each to unlock.
4. In mid-November, the story continued with "Tangled Paths" and opened up which area beneath the Silverwastes?

Answer: Tangled Labyrinth

With the release of "Tangled Paths", an additional objective became available at the conclusion of Silverwaste's meta event in the brief window of time before the cycle began anew. Players are able to access the Tangled Labyrinth deep beneath the surface for a chance to obtain some extra loot.

A Greater Nightmare Pod sits at the labyrinth's centre, only openable with a Key of Greater Nightmares (a reward for successful meta event completion). Scattered throughout the maze are smaller Lesser Nightmare Pods which give minor loot but contribute to the overall pod-opening event inside the maze.

Therefore, the more players there are opening these pods in the maze, the quicker the meter fills up to complete the event. The event occurs three times during the reset period, which each successful completion of the previous tier causing the next one to require more pods to be opened.

The rewards, of course, scale with each successfully completed tier.
5. "Seeds of Truth" in early December opened up parts of the Far Silverwastes, including a zone-wide jumping puzzle adventure with which name?

Answer: Drydock Scratch

The main objective of Drydock Scratch is to start in the vast caverns beneath the Silverwastes, near the Skritt ship SS Topsy-Turvy, and navigate the course, which covers a significant portion of subterranean Silverwastes and occasionally emerges into daylight, all the way to the end.

At first, the path is fairly straightforward, but it quickly becomes more difficult as paths branch off and the way is not always obvious. Eventual completion of this puzzle, arguably one of the longest and most complex in the game, rewards you with an achievement and a handful of goodies.
6. One of the story steps in "Seeds of Truth" sees players returning to Metrica Province and retracing the steps of which former member of Destiny's Edge?

Answer: Caithe

Using memory seeds to trigger flashbacks, players are able to seamlessly take on the role of Caithe in events that had previously already transpired. In the "Meeting the Asura" story step, players venture through an asura research base in Hexane Regrade to rescue an imprisoned sylvari.

This could be accomplished in a few ways, either by using stealth tactics and remaining undetected throughout the entire thing or by going straight in and alerting pretty much everyone and everything inside. Both methods are rewarded with achievements, meaning full achievement completion of this release requires multiple story step playthroughs.
7. "A Very Merry Wintersday" return in mid-December 2014 with another festive celebration. A new scavenger hunt was introduced to obtain which item?

Answer: Star of Gratitude

With Empyreal Fragments (amongst the other ascended crafting materials) being in significant abundance, another of the game's converters was released, tied to the Wintersday event. The Star of Gratitude, when obtained, can consume fifty of your Empyreal Fragments at a time, converting them into a bunch of loot, thereby giving some value to these account bound, unsellable materials.

A maximum of 300 Empyreal Fragments can be consumed per day, though the Star may refuse to consume any more fragments at any point after consuming at least 150.
8. One month later and the conclusion to Season 2 of the Living World was in sight. "Point of No Return" introduced which enemy to the Silverwastes, fought at the conclusion of the zone's subterranean Breach meta event?

Answer: Vinewrath

Inserting itself between the end of the Breach event and the opening of the Tangled Labyrinth, the Vinewrath meta event requires players to split into three teams and each take one of three lanes in the east of the Silverwastes to assault one of Mordremoth's lieutenants.

Interestingly, the Vinewrath isn't directly attacked; rather, players are periodically able to break through the Vinewrath's barricades (with the help of siege equipment) and take on one of the its champions - either the Beekeeper, the Mangler or the Dark Wing. Should a lane fail to take down their champion in the allotted time, the next lane will face off against the same foe until all three are dead. With its champions slain, the Vinewrath is defeated and all players can receive some pretty good rewards and loot from its chamber.
9. In "The Mystery Cave", the final story step in "Point of No Return", players continue their investigations and reach a mysterious golden cave hidden deep underground. It's here that players fight which enemy for the second (or even potentially third) time?

Answer: Shadow of the Dragon

Sylvari characters will first meet the Shadow of the Dragon shortly after character creation and before entering Tyria properly, fighting it off inside the Dream before emerging and beginning life. In "The Dragon's Reach, Part 2", the Shadow of the Dragon interrupts the world leaders' summit and players are tasked with defending them and the Pale Tree from its attacks.

When players enter the cave in "Point of No Return", the Shadow of the Dragon appears for the final time and needs defeating once and for all.
10. A short Easter egg cinematic played at the end of "Point of No Return", teasing the release of the yet-to-be-formally-announced first expansion for "Guild Wars 2".

Answer: True

Yes, quite unexpectedly, a mysterious reference at the end of the cinematic to something called "Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns" set the community alight with rumours and discussions as to what it could be. The game's first expansion was officially unveiled in a special conference at PAX South on 24 January 2015, revealing the direction that the game would be heading.
