Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Each town has 7 types of creatures that can be recruited there. The non-upgraded level 1 creature available in a Castle town is called what?

Answer: pikeman

In many strategy games, pikemen have an advantage against mounted foes. In "Heroes of Might and Magic 3", both Pikemen and Halberdiers are immune to the charge attack bonus of the Cavalier and Champion. In this game, there are a very limited number of creatures that have special abilities versus a specific foe.
2. Each town has the ability to build a Mage Guild. What is the highest level spell that can be learned at a Mage Guild in a Castle town?

Answer: 4

The highest level spell available anywhere is this game is level 5. Generally, the higher the level, the more powerful the spell. But a level 1 spell can be more valuable than a level 5 spell. It all depends on the cirumstances and other factors that affect the spell's result.
3. Upgraded level 7 creatures in each town usually require money plus resources to purchase. The upgraded level 7 creature in the Castle town is the Archangel. In both the original version of the game and the Armageddon's Blade expansion pack, no resource is required to purchase an Archangel. Which resource type is required to buy an Archangel beginning with the Shadow of Death expansion pack?

Answer: gems

If you want Archangels, you'd better start hoarding gems quickly. In order to better balance the different factions, changes were made to the statistics and requirements to purchase some creatures in the Shadow of Death expansion pack. The Archangel was deemed too powerful as originally created. Thus, there was an addition of gems to the purchase price of each Archangel.
4. Some towns can build structures that other towns can't. One of these structures is a Shipyard. Can the Castle town build a Shipyard?

Answer: Yes

Shipyards can be built by Castle, Conflux, Fortress and Necropolis. What those undead-types want with ships, I don't know.
5. Upgrading a creature can improve its statistics and skills in various ways. The level 4 Castle creature is called a Swordsman. The Swordsman can be upgraded to a Crusader. One change is that Crusaders strike twice per turn. Which statistics improve when this upgrade is made?

Answer: attack, damage and speed

This is a nice upgrade and only costs 100 gold more per Crusader.
6. Speed determines which creature gets to act first in combat and also how far the creature can move in combat. It also determines, to some extent, how far heroes can move on the Adventure map. What is the speed rating of the Archangel?

Answer: 18

Until the release of the expansion pack "Armageddon's Blade", Archangels were the fastest creatures in "Heroes of Might & Magic 3". "Armageddon's Blade" introduced a new town type, the Conflux. The upgraded level 7 creature of the Conflux is the Phoenix which checks in with a speed of 21.
7. Back to our friend, the Swordsman. We know that he can be upgraded into a Crusader. But what resources are required to build this upgraded dwelling?

Answer: 2000 Gold + 5 Ore + 5 Crystals

Dwellings for Crusaders, Monks, Zealots, Angels and Archangels require crystal.
8. Each town has access to 2 types of starting heroes, a magic type & a might type. Which are the two starting hero types available for Castle towns?

Answer: Knight and Cleric

Some towns blur the line between magic-type heroes and might-type heroes. For example, some heroes have zero ratings in Attack and Defense with all their attribute points in Spell Power and Knowledge. These are obvious magic-type heroes. Other towns have heroes with a blend of all four attributes: Attack, Defense, Spell Power and Knowledge. Find your favorite hero and challenge the world!
9. Upgrading a Marketplace can produce a Resource Silo. What resource or resources does the Resource Silo in a Castle town produce each day ?

Answer: 1 Wood and 1 Ore

You would think the Resource Silo should produce Gems in order to help with the purchase of Archangels. In many towns, but not all, the Resource Silo produces the rare resource needed for the level 7 upgraded creature but not in Castle, Fortress, Necropolis nor Stronghold. In these towns, instead, 1 Wood and 1 Ore are produced daily.
10. Each town can contain a Blacksmith which produces a specific machine that can aid in battle. Which machine is created by the Castle Blacksmith?

Answer: Ballista

Ballistas function as an extra ranged attacker for the army that carries one on its troop roster. Catapults are default machines that all armies carry when sieging a castle; you cannot buy them. Healing Tents can heal damage done to your army; if you have the First Aid skill, you can determine which unit to heal. Ammo Carts allow for unlimited missile attacks by your ranged attack units. Normally these units have a limited number of shots available for each battle.
