Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. In "Homeworld", you play as a race called the Kushan. Other races call them the Exiles and in sequel "Homeworld" games, they are known as Hiigarans. They are a race of beings almost similar to humans in terms of appearance and technological advancement. What is the name of the desert planet that they inhabit at the beginning of the game?

Answer: Kharak

The Kushan inhabit the desert world of Kharak. However, you'll find out as the game begins that the Kushan do not originate from Kharak but instead another planet halfway across the galaxy: Hiigara.

Kadesh is the name of a nebula in the "Homeworld" universe. The Mothership enters the Kadesh Nebula at some point during the campaign, hoping that doing so will allow them to bypass Taiidan outposts while on their way to Hiigara.

Tatooine is the name of the famous desert planet found in the "Star Wars" universe, home to Luke Skywalker.

Na Pali is the name of a fictional Earth-like planet where the PC games "Unreal" and "Unreal: Return to Na Pali" take place.
2. After the Kushan Mothership's initial command-line testing, the hyperdrive is then tested and the Mothership enters hyperspace. It sets course for the outskirts of the Kharak system in order to rendezvous with what Kushan ship?

Answer: Khar-Selim

In the second level of "Homeworld", you exit hyperspace in the outskirts of the Kharak system in order to rendezvous with the support vessel Khar-Selim. The Khar-Selim spent 10 years on conventional engines to get there in order to provide assistance in case of the Mothership's hyperdrive malfunctioning when the time came for it to be tested. However, you find that the Khar-Selim was destroyed by space pirates known as the Turanic Raiders.

The Khar-Toba is the name of the ancient starship that the Kushan find buried in the sands of Kharak, which held clues that showed that the Kushan didn't originate from Kharak but from Hiigara instead.

The Kuun-Lan is the name of the Command Ship that you control during the course of the sequel PC game "Homeworld: Cataclysm".

Riesstiu is the name of the Taiidan Emperor during the events of "Homeworld". His full name is Emperor Riesstiu IV the Second.
3. The Guidestone was a stone inside the ancient starship that was found buried in the sands of Kharak. On it, there was etched a galactic map and the name of the true Kushan homeworld: Hiigara. During the game, the Bentusi mention that the Guidestone was made from what?

Answer: The rock of Hiigara's Angel Moon

The Guidestone was carved from the rock of Hiigara's Angel Moon. When the Hiigarans were sent into exile, they made the Guidestone and put on it a galactic map. This, along with the Hyperspace Core they smuggled with them into exile, is what will allow the Kushan/Hiigarans to return and reclaim their homeworld.
4. During the construction of the Mothership, a female Kushan scientist had herself permanently integrated into the Mothership to become its living core. What is her name?

Answer: Karan S'jet

After her integration into the Mothership, Karan S'jet became Fleet Command and ultimately became the leader of the Kushan/Hiigaran people throughout the entire "Homeworld" series. Soban, Nabaal, and Somtaaw as well as S'jet are all notable Kiith (tribes/factions/families) in the Kushan race.
5. Why did the Taiidan lay waste to Kharak's surface as well as destroy all orbital facilities (except for the cryo trays)?

Answer: They broke a 4000 year-old treaty with the Taiidan

When the Kushan/Hiigarans were sent into exile, they were forced to sign a treaty with the Taiidan that promised that they would never again develop hyperdrive technology. Four-thousand years later, the treaty is forgotten by the Kushan and when the Mothership initiates its first hyperspace test, the Taiidan use the treaty as an excuse to destroy Kharak.
6. Captain Elson is a Taiidan rebel who despises the corruptness that the Taiidan Empire has become. He leaves the Taiidan Empire in his Destroyer that goes by what name?

Answer: Kapella

His fleeing from the Taiidan Empire would later become known as "The Flight of the Kapella". Captain Elson was responsible for allowing the Taiidan Rebellion and the Kushan to work together in order to overthrow the Taiidan Empire.

The Kobayashi Maru is a Starfleet training exercise at the Starfleet Academy in the "Star Trek" universe. It is thought to be an impossible test as one simply cannot beat it. Unbeknownst to Starfleet cadets, however, the point is to lose as it is a test of character as a Starfleet captain. The name "Kobayashi Maru" is derived from the name of a civilian vessel that one has to (or at least attempt to) save during the exercise.

The Pride of Hiigara is the name of the Hiigaran mothership in "Homeworld 2".

Coruc-Tel is the name of a system that the Kuun-Lan visits in order to find the science vessel Clee-San in "Homeworld: Cataclysm".
7. Okay, here's a pretty much easy question. During the entire course of the game you meet many different races. Out of all of them, only one is friendly to you. What is the name of that species?

Answer: Bentusi

The Bentusi are the only race in "Homeworld" that are friendly to the Kushan. They offer information or the trade of technologies to the Kushan during the game. At the end of "Homeworld", the Bentusi arrive with the Galactic Council to recognize the claim the Kushan have on Hiigara.

The Turanic Raiders, Taiidan, and the Kadeshi are all hostile species. The Turanic Raiders are naturally hostile as they are space pirates. The Taiidan are, of course, your mortal enemies throughout the game. The Kadeshi are a race of beings that inhabit the Kadesh Nebula, the religion of the entire civilization is based on this nebula. After seemingly "defiling" it and then refusing to join the Kadeshi, they attack the Kushan.
8. At some point in the game the Kushan Mothership arrives in deep space, confronted by an unknown alien "ghost" vessel that takes over any ships that are the size of a Frigate or larger that go near it. What area of the galaxy is the Mothership found in?

Answer: The Sea of Lost Souls

The Sea of Lost Souls is an area of space where the Kushan meet an unknown alien "ghost" ship that takes over any ships that are the size of a Frigate or larger during the game. It is eventually subdued by the Kushan, much to the appreciation of the Bentusi.

The Shining Hinterlands is an area of space close to the Galactic Core and is not only visited during "Homeworld" but "Homeworld 2" as well.

The Great Wastelands are an area of space nearby Kharak, mostly home to the Turanic Raiders as well as being rich in resources.

The Vaygr Reaches are an area of space in "Homeworld 2" in which the Vaygr originated. Once the Vaygr War started in "Homeworld 2", it probably also meant the area of space that the Vaygr had conquered as well.
9. During the game, the Kushan Mothership arrives at the Karos Graveyard. This is a large area of space filled with millions of shipwrecks from hundreds, if not thousands, of different species across the galaxy. When the Mothership enters this ship graveyard, they are confronted by automated defenses and a Corvette-class ship that likes to grab unwary ships and throw them into nearby Hyperspace Gates. What is the name of this ship?

Answer: Junkyard Dog

This ship is indeed known by no other name than "Junkyard Dog". Reasons for its naming are debatable, but what isn't debatable is the fact that it will grab Kushan ships and throw them into Hyperspace! The Junkyard Dog is a very hard ship to destroy and is not even worth the immense amount of time it would take to destroy it, so your best option is to avoid it.
10. At the end of "Homeworld", the Kushan Exiles kill the Taiidan Emperor and defeat the Taiidan. They reclaim Hiigara as their homeworld and destroy all symbols of the old Taiidan Empire. It is also mentioned that Karan S'jet is the last to do what?

Answer: Disembark from the Mothership and set foot on Hiigara

Karan S'jet insists that she be the last one to disembark from the Mothership and set foot on Hiigara. Her reasons for this are unknown, but the Kushan reclamation of Hiigara will be remembered from that day forward. Forever unto history as the day they reclaimed their homeworld and became the great civilization they once were.
