Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Where does Graham first see the woman of his dreams?

Answer: In the magic mirror

Graham invites all the women of Daventry into his castle and gives each of them a chance to impress him. Unfortunately, none of them impress him. Then Graham looks into the magic mirror and sees a woman imprisoned in a quartz tower. Graham finds this woman to be the most beautiful woman she's ever seen.

He also sees that she is in trouble and sets out on a quest to save her. Apparently Daventry can live without its king for a while and has some kind of contingency plan in case Graham dies.
2. Where does Graham go?

Answer: Kolyma

The magic mirror tells Graham that his dream woman is in Kolyma. So that's where he goes. In the remake by AGD Interactive, prime minister Gerwain sends Graham there by ship. Graham later learns that Gerwain isn't what he appeared to be. In any case, he obviously doesn't go to Daventry, is he is already there and this woman isn't. Llewdor is in "King's Quest 3" and Tamir is in "King's Quest 4."
3. Where is Little Red Riding Hood's lost basket in the original game?

Answer: In Grandma's mailbox

When Graham meets Little Red Hiding Hood, he tells her that someone stole her basket. Fortunately, Graham does not have to travel very far to find it. A few questions remain: Why would someone steal a girl's basket and then hide it in her mailbox? Why didn't Grandma find it there and return it to her? How could a basket fit inside a mailbox? AGD Interactive's puzzle makes more sense.

In their version, the basket is found at a random location either in the forest or on the beach.
4. Where is the first key/gem?

Answer: In the ocean

When you find the magic door on the other side of the chasm, it will tell you that the first key/gem is underwater. Once you have read this, a mermaid will be in the ocean. When you give a gift to the mermaid, it will take you underwater to meet Neptune. Neptune will tell you to bring back his trident. Where the trident is and what gift you give to the mermaid depends on which version of the game you are playing?
5. In the remake, the trident is with what evil group of people?

Answer: Sharkees

AGD Interactive invented a kingdom that did not exist in the original game: the realm of the Sharkees. These creatures were named after a street in Shapeir in "Quest For Glory 2". In that game, all the streets have Arabic names. One of the streets is called "Sharki Darb" which translates to "East Avenue" in English. Since "Sharki Darb" has the word "Shark" in it, and since the first gem is underwater, AGD Interactive jokingly invented the sharkees.

In the remake of "Quest For Glory 2", the hero will sometimes see a sharkee swimming down "Sharki Darb."
6. Can the dwarf kill Graham or make the game unwinnable in the original "King's Quest 2"?

Answer: No

The dwarf in the original version of this game is just like the dwarf in "King's Quest 1". He moves very quickly, and steals from Graham if he catches him. The difference is, in "King's Quest 2", Graham can get his stuff back by entering the dwarf's house: a door built into a tree. So the dwarf does not even make the game unwinnable if he catches Graham in the original.

He's just an inconvenience. However, in the remake the dwarf can kill Graham and make the game unwinnable. In that game Graham can only enter his house once. Plus the dwarf does things he never did in the Sierra game.
7. The enchanter in this game is the same person as the sorcerer in the first game.

Answer: False

They look similar, they're both magical, and they move at about the same speed. The difference is, the sorcerer just froze Graham. Getting frozen did not end the game, at least not directly. The enchanter turns Graham into an animal if he catches him, and this ends the game because he cannot complete his quest as a toad.

In the remake, Graham can create a device of magical protection against the enchanter and even make the enchanter disappear.
8. Where is the second key/gem?

Answer: Depends on which version you are playing

In the original game, the second key is in the enchanter's lair, which is on top of a mountain. In the remake, the second gem is found in a giant cloud.
9. To get the second key/gem, Graham must "rescue" what kind of bird from the evil witch Hagatha?

Answer: Nightingale

The old lady that owns the antique shop promised to give Graham a magic lamp if he brings her back the nightingale. However, while Graham rescues the nightingale from Hagatha, its fate with its new owner turns out to be just as bad as if it stayed with Hagatha.

The antique shop owner does the same thing with the nightingale that the witch was going to do. This is made clear in the remake. This isn't stated in the original. However in the original, when the old lady gets her nightingale back, she says "My precious!" and kicks Graham out of her shop. Why would she kick out anyone, much less the man who saved her pet? Plus the expression "My precious!" brings to mind images of Gollum.

The only logical explanation is AGD Interactive's interpretation is correct and Ken and Roberta Williams didn't want us to know that so as to not upset the kids.
10. Of the three things the genie gives Graham in the original game, which one should Graham never use?

Answer: Sword

"King's Quest" games supposedly encourage non-violence. Graham can use the sword, but there are always non-violent alternatives that offer more points. For example, Graham can kill the snake, but the snake is an enchanted Pegasus. Throwing the bridle on the snake will break the enchantment, score more points, and Pegasus will reward Graham with a magic sugar cube that protects against poisonous plants.

It is possible to win the game without the magic sugar cube, but it is MUCH more difficult. How Ken and Roberta Williams expected players to figure out to bridle the snake, no one knows. Fortunately, the AGD Interactive version doesn't even allow you to kill the snake, and the object of disenchantment makes more sense (it's a magic emerald and its sole purpose is to disenchant things).

Unfortunately, the bridle is much harder to find in the remake.
11. What does the monk give Graham if he prays?

Answer: Cross

If Graham enters the church and prays next to the monk, the monk will give him a cross. The cross serves a different purpose depending on the version of the game. In the original, the cross does not ever have to be used. It can be used to scare away the ghosts or to kill Dracula, but there are alternatives that score more points.

In the remake, the cross is a mandatory item as it is the key to the castle.
12. What does Grandma give Graham in return for the chicken soup?

Answer: Cloak and Ring

When Graham gives Grandma the chicken soup, she rewards her kindness with a vampire cape and a ring. How she got those items is not clear in the original. In the remake, Grandma turns out to be the husband of Count Caldaur, a vampire whose name is an anagram of Dracula.
13. Who takes Graham across the poisoned waters in this game and does the same with with Alexander in the river Styx in "King's Quest 6"?

Answer: Charon

Charon is a ghoul who ferries people across the river Styx in Greek Mythology. He appears after Graham has gotten the first two keys/gems and in the original version after Graham reads the inscription on the third door.
14. In the enchanted realm, who takes Graham across the water?

Answer: Fish

When Graham enters the enchanted realm, he appears to be stuck. He can't get across the strange waters. So he sticks his net in the water and hopes for something to help him. He catches a golden fish, and if he throws it back in the water, it takes Graham across the water to the tower where Valanice is.
15. Who is the original "Girl in the Tower"?

Answer: Valanice

Valanice is the name of the woman Graham finds in the tower in the enchanted realm. This is many years before Cassima enters the picture. So "Girl in the Tower" should have been the "King's Quest 2" theme song.
