This is a fun way to open up a game that can become very addictive. It combines elements of puzzle and action with simplicity in it's design. The magazine 'Computer Gaming World', in 2006, slotted 'Lemmings' in at number 12 in its list of the best 150 games of all time.

Gary Timmons and Mike Dailly were the driving forces behind the animation of the 'Lemmings' while Scott Johnston was the responsible for most of the background work. Oh and ... Scott's mum provides the voice effects for the 'Lemmings'.

Scraper is a fictitious skill and is not recorded within the game. 'Bashers' allow you to dig horizontally, 'Miners' will dig diagonally and 'Diggers' dig downwards.

This tactic though is best employed once you have managed to determine a safe route for the 'Lemmings' to navigate to the home cave. The myth about 'Lemmings' falling from the sky during stormy weather and then dying suddenly once spring came around and the grass started to grow was 'reportedly' fueled by a theory that was put forward by the geographer Zeigler of Strasbourg.
The mass suicide of 'Lemmings' is more than likely perpetuated by their biological urge to migrate in large groups when searching for new habitats.

There are two skills that, once assigned to a 'Lemming', remain with the creature regardless of what other skill may be allocated to them. The 'Floater', which enables a 'Lemming' to fall safely from dangerous heights, and the 'Climber' which will enable 'Lemmings' to scale most structures.

The skills remain with the 'Lemming', however, are dormant until required. Now some might think that the answer could be four. Allow the 'Lemming' to keep their 'Floater' and 'Climber', allocate another task to it, then turn it into a 'Bomber'. (A 'Bomber' will see a 'Lemming' blow himself up within 5 seconds.) Good theory, however, the moment you turn it into a 'Bomber' it ceases having the skill for the other task.

Lemmings are an actual creature. They are rodents. They come from the same super-family as mice, gerbils and hamsters.
Unlike the game, where 'Lemmings' dissolve on contact with water, the real creatures can, and do, swim.

Here's a case of mistaken 'Lemming' identity. Some people believe that there is a character in the "Li'l Abner" comic strip that is a 'Lemming'. The cute little creature, however, is called a 'Shmoo'. The 'Shmoo' is able to lay eggs and produce milk. It will also die from sheer ecstasy it you cast a hungry look in its direction.
