Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. How many forms of attack does Bowser have if, after entering Bowser's chamber, you fly to the left via a P-Wing to another Bowser chamber, then fly back to the original Bowser chamber?

Answer: One

Provided you enter the correct Bowser fight chamber (you will know because the brick floor is entirely flush), you can fly to the left and find a second Bowser chamber. Do not land on the floor. Rather, once Bowser enters the second chamber, fly back to the original chamber.

Then Bowser will not be able to shoot fireballs, and he will only be able to use his jump attack on you. He will make the sounds of blowing fire, but nothing will come out. You have to have the P-Wing to do this trick.
2. Fifteen unused levels have been discovered programmed into the "Super Mario Bros 3" game code. Two enemies are present in these levels that are not found in the regular game. The primary difference with these enemies are their sprite coloring. The first is a Golden Cheep-Cheep. What is the second enemy?

Answer: Green Parabeetle

Fifteen unused levels have been discovered programmed into the "Super Mario Bros 3" game code. Some of these levels heavily resemble levels present in the final game. Several are unfinished. One leve is simply a collection of power up rooms
3. How many of Bowser's children appear in "Super Mario Bros. 3"?

Answer: Seven

The Koopalings first appear in "Super Mario Bros. 3" on the NES. They have appeared in several games since then, including "Super Mario World", "New Super Mario Bros.", "New Super Mario Bros. Wii", and several others. In 2002, we learn of another child of Bowser named Bowser Jr.

However, Bowser Jr. is a much later addition to the Mario canon, and for several years the Koopalings were the only show in town.
4. You're aboard an airship. You seek a deranged child of an evil king. The evil king has stolen seven wands from seven rightful kings. The king gave his child, whose name is Iggy, one such wand. Your job is to get it back. What's World does Iggy rule?

Answer: World 4: Big Land

Iggy is the fourth oldest Koopaling. Iggy also appears in "Super Mario Bros. 3", "Super Mario World", "Mario is Missing", "Yoshi's Safari", "Hotel Mario", "Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga", and "New Super Mario Bros. Wii". In "Hotel Mario", Iggy is the only Koopaling not to have captured his own hotel, and instead is working in Bowser's Seizure Palace Hotel, in Bowser's BBQ Room.

"Super Mario Brothers 3" was released in 1988 in Japan and 1990 in America. The game features heavily in the movie "The Wizard", and was also released in arcades at one time. In fact, the first time I ever played "Super Mario Brothers 3" was in an arcade.
5. What is the name of the Koopa you must face at the end of every fortress?

Answer: Boom Boom

Boom Boom flails his arms and attacks Mario by running back and forth across the screen. He can also fly. You defeat him by jumping on him three times, or hitting him with Fire Flowers or Hammers. His only game appearance is in "Super Mario Bros. 3".

"Super Mario Bros. 3"'s game manual describes the Boom Boom this way:

"This is the boss that controls the Mini-Fortresses. Boom Boom hurls himself at Mario with his arms swinging. Mario needs to jump on Boom Boom three times to defeat him. Be careful though, Boom Boom gets quicker every time he gets jumped on."

"Super Mario Bros. 3" is generally regarded as one of the best titles in the NES's deep and varied catalog. Ignoring the weird detour of "Super Mario Bros. 2", "Super Mario Bros. 3" goes back to the basics, and makes everything about the original "Super Mario Bros." bigger, better, and more epic.
6. How many enemies make their debut in "Super Mario Bros. 3"?

Answer: Thirty-one

There are thirty-one new enemies in "Super Mario Bros. 3". Many of them would become staples in the Mario canon, though some have become relegated to the side lines. Here is the complete list of new enemies introduced in "Super Mario Bros. 3" and the level in which they first appear.

-Angry Sun (First Appearance: World 2 Quicksand Level)
-Big Bertha (First Appearance: World 3-5)
-Blooper Nanny (First Appearance: World 3-1)

-Hot Foot (World 4 Fortress 1)
-Hue Bill (First Appearance: World 4-5)
-Kuribo Goomba (First Appearance: World 5-3
-Jelectro (First Appearance: World 3-5)
-Lava Lotus (First Appearance: World 3-1)
-Micro Goomba (First Appearance: World 1-2 from a different Para Goomba)
-Micro Block (First Appearance: World 2-1)
-Muncher Plant (First Appearance: World 5-3)

-Spike (First Appearance: World 3-7)
-Spiny Cheep (First Appearance: World 7-4)
-Stretch (First Appearance: World 3 Fortress)
-Venus Fly Trap (First Appearance: World 1-1)

The seven Koopalings and seven nameless Kings also make their debut as well.

The Firesnakes appear in "Super Mario World" on the level "Outrageous", "New Super Mario Bros.", "New Super Mario Bros. Wii", and "Yoshi's Safari". They also appear in "Mario Kart DS" and "Mario Kart Wii".
7. Not all enemies in "Super Mario Bros. 3" can be hurt. Which of the following is invincible to any attack from Mario or Luigi?

Answer: Jelectro

Blooper Nannies can be killed with fireballs. Firesnakes can be eradicated by invincibility stars. Hot Foots can be killed by throwing hammers at it. Jelectros, electric jellyfish, cannot be damaged in any way, shape, or form. They appear in World 3, and also a large number is found in the automatically scrolling level 7-4. Muckle and Leuko, two enemies from "Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars" heavily resemble Jelectros.
8. In the "Super Mario All Stars" version of "Super Mario Bros. 3", Ludwig Von Koopa transformed the king into a Yoshi. What did he transform the king into in the original NES version?

Answer: Venus Fire Trap

For some reason when Nintendo released "Super Mario Bros. 3" as part of "Super Mario All Stars" they changed what the kings were transformed too. Here is a complete list of what the kings were and what they were changed too:

World 1: Dog to Cobrat ("Super Mario Bros. 2")
World 2: Spider to Hoopster ("Super Mario Bros. 2")
World 3: Spike to Dino-Rhino ("Super Mario World")
World 4: Dinosaur to Donkey Kong Jr.
World 5: Bird to Albatross ("Super Mario Bros. 2")
World 6: Seal to Monty Mole ("Super Mario World")
World 7: Venus Fire Trap to Yoshi

According to Miyamoto, the idea of Yoshi (though not necessarily his present-day design) dates back to the original "Super Mario Bros." but was not included for technological reasons. In "Super Mario Bros. 3" Miyamoto wanted to include Yoshi but did not, waiting for "Super Mario World". Yoshi finally gets his appearance in the remake.

Another idea that did not come to fruition was having Mario changed into a centaur.
9. What is the rarest enemy in "Super Mario Bros. 3"?

Answer: Fire Breathing Nipper Plant

There is only one of these Fire Breathing Nipper Plants in the entire game, making it the rarest enemy encountered in "Super Mario Bros. 3". There are numerous Nipper Plants however. They are immature baby Piranha Plants. It is found on level 7-8. Fire Bros. are the second rarest, with only three appearing in the entire game.
10. What is the one enemy that can kill Mario in one hit, regardless of whether he is regular Mario, Super Mario, or Mario with one of the various suits?

Answer: Boss Bass

Boss Bass is a roving fish that will swallow Mario in one mere gulp, like Jonah and the Whale from the Bible. They can be killed by blocks, shells, hammers, fireballs, tail attacks, and stars. However, they will return later on. If you have used the e-reader card on the GBA version that turns enemies into coins if they are murdered by fireballs, Boss Bass will not return. In "Super Paper Mario" it appears that Boss Basses eat Cheep-Cheeps. They also make a small cameo in "Mario Kart DS".
