Quiz Answer Key and Fun Facts
1. Which Mario series character moved from a playable character to an NPC in "Mario Party 6"?

Answer: Donkey Kong

Sorry, you can no longer play as DK after "Mario Party 4". From what I hear, DK was no longer playable in "Mario Party 5", but I can't speak from experience on that one, since I've never played that game. DK now appears when a player lands on a DK Space on the board. He occasionally gives the player free coins or even a Star, but usually he draws all players into one of three special DK Mini-Games ("Tally Me Banana", "Pier Factor", and "Banana Shake"), in which players try to collect as many bananas as possible. Each banana is worth one, two, or three coins, depending on DK's roulette. DK also appears dispensing Stars on Castaway Bay and Clockwork Castle.
Toad first became a playable character in "Mario Party 5". In previous games in the series, Toad gave out Stars and appeared in various Mini-Games.
Yoshi and Wario have been playable characters in the "Mario Party" series since the beginning, and are still playable.
2. Which of these Mini-Games does not change (other than the background) with day and night?

Answer: "Jump the Gun"

Day changes to night, and vice versa, every three turns. When night falls, the warm rays of Brighton the sun depart, and the dim light of Twila the moon fills his slot. This causes several changes on the boards, and in some of the Mini-Games.
"Mole-it!" is a 2 vs 2 Mini-Game. Players are split into teams, and each team must work together to hit as many Monty Moles appearing from pipes as possible, while avoiding Piranha Plants. During the day, players jump up and hit the Monty Moles in pipes on the ceiling, while at night, players Ground Pound to hit Monty Moles appearing in pipes on the ground. Each regular Mole is worth one point, while golden sparkling Moles are worth three points. The team with the most points wins.
In "Conveyor Bolt", a 1 vs. 3 Mini-Game, players on the conveyor belt must avoid any lightning bolts players in clouds throw down, along with any spikes they may encounter on the belt. During the day, there is one player in a cloud, and three players on the conveyor belt. The solo player must eliminate all three team players to win. If even one survives, the team players win. On the other hand, at night, the game involves three players in clouds wreaking havoc on a single player on the belt. If the solo player can survive until time runs out, he wins. Otherwise, the team wins.
Finally, in "What Goes Up..." (a 4-Player Mini-Game), during the day, players must strive to climb as high as possible in the sky, by jumping on clouds and the backs of flying Koopa Troopas. Whoever can climb the highest wins. At night, the game may as well be called "Must Come Down". Instead of climbing up, players are now falling down, while avoiding the clouds and flying Koopa Troopas if possible. The player who makes it the furthest down, or the first player to reach the ground, wins this version.
"Jump the Gun" is a 2 vs. 2. Mini-Game, in which players work together to form a path across floating targets in the sky. One player fires Bullet Bills at the targets to create stepping stones, while the other player jumps across them until he reaches the goal. The first team to reach the goal wins. The only difference between day and night in this game is the aesthetics; gameplay is the same no matter the time of day.
3. It's possible to play a Duel Mini-Game before the last five turns.

Answer: True

Before the last five turns of a game, players can only play Duel Mini-Games when they land on a Duel Space, which is green with a picture of crossed swords. Upon landing on one of these spaces, the player chooses to either duel for coins or stars, and a roulette randomly selects a Duel Mini-Game.

When dueling for coins, the player can bet as many coins as they have, even just one coin if they wish. This amount is taken from each player and placed into the pot, and the winner of the Mini-Game gets the whole pot.

When dueling for stars, if the player has 40 coins, he may choose to bet these while the other player bets a star. The winner gets it all. If the player doesn't have 40 coins, the other option is to bet one star. A star is taken from each player, and the winner gets both stars. During the final five turns, in addition to dueling on Duel Spaces, you also duel another player when you land on the same space as them.

However, in this case, you can only duel the player you landed on.
4. How many boards are available in Solo Mode?

Answer: Three

Solo Mode is the game's one-player mode. In this mode, a player treks across a board while collecting mini-games and taking care not to fall off the end of the board. There are spaces for each type of Mini-Game (4-Player, 1 vs. 3, 2 vs. 2, Battle, Bowser, and Duel), and the player plays the type of Mini-Game indicated by the space they land on, against three colored Koopa Kids. If the player wins, he collects that Mini-Game. This is a great way to see Mini-Games you've never played before, unlocking them in Mini-Game Mode.
Unfortunately, if the player moves beyond the last space of the board, he falls and loses all Mini-Games collected, and therefore cannot collect any Stars. If you can manage to stop on the last space, you win one of three Rare Mini-Games (only playable in Mini-Game Mode). Players can use Sluggish 'Shroom Orbs, and the Solo-Mode exclusive Cursed Mushroom Orb (the Dice Block only rolls 1 to 3) to remedy this situation. If the player stops on the last space or calls it quits (which he can do at any time), he is given a score based on Mini-Games collected and spaces landed on. The higher this score, the more Stars the player receives for the Star Bank.
Solo Mode boards include: Thirsty Gulch (short, with many 2 vs. 2 Spaces), Astro Avenue (medium, with many 1 vs. 3 Spaces), and Infernal Tower (long, with many 4-Player spaces).
Rare Mini-Games include: "Lab Brats", "Block Star", and "Dunk Bros". The fourth Rare Mini-Game, "Seer Terror" is available for purchase from the Star Bank.
5. Which Orb only appears on one board?

Answer: Snack Orb

If a player has the Snack Orb, it works automatically when he is attacked by a Chain Chomp. This Orb stops the Chomp from stealing anything from the player. It's only good for one Chomp attack though. Since it is the only stage to feature Chain Chomps, the Snack Orb only appears on Snowflake Lake.
The Super 'Shroom Orb appears on all boards, and it allows the player to move using three Dice Blocks. If you roll three identical numbers, you win 30 coins. If those numbers are lucky 7's, you win 50 coins.
The Flutter Orb appears on any board where the Star appears in a random location, and moves randomly when a player collects it (Towering Treetop and E. Gadd's Garage). This Orb costs 30 coins, but it is worth the money, as it transports the player directly to the Star. Just be sure you have 20 coins before you use it.
The Boo-Away Orb only appears on boards containing Pink Boo (Towering Treetop and Castaway Bay). Players can pay Pink Boo five coins to steal coins from any player, or 40 coins to steal a Star from any player. If a player attempts to steal from someone with a Boo-Away Orb, the Orb works automatically and stops the Pink Boo from robbing any coins or stars. Like the Snack Orb, this Orb is only good for one mugging.
6. Which of these is NOT a command players can give via the Mic in Mic Mini-Games? (go by the Mini-Game instructions, not the secrets from the Star Bank).

Answer: "Scatter"

With your purchase of "Mario Party 6", the GameCube Mic is also included. Connect the Mic into the second Memory Card slot, and you gain access to five special Mic Mini-Games, 1 vs. 3 Mini-Games where the solo player controls their character via voice commands. They randomly appear instead of a normal 1 vs. 3 Mini-Game, though they cannot be played in Mini-Game Mode. In order to play them outside Party Mode, the game includes a special Mic Mode containing Speak Up (a quiz show), Star Sprint (a series of obstacle courses) and the ability to play Mic Mini-Games.
"Grapes" is spoken in "Fruit Talktail". The solo player says the name of a fruit, and all platforms containing other fruits disappear. The team players must all go to a platform containing the correct fruit, or they will fall into oblivion. If all three players fall off the platforms, the solo player wins. Otherwise, if even one survives, the team wins.
"5" is spoken in "Shoot Yer Mouth Off". The solo player says a number, and the corresponding numbered blaster fires. Some contain Bob-ombs, while others contain Bullet Bills. The object is to eliminate the three team players in the center ring. If the solo player is able to do so, he wins. If even one survives, the team wins.
"Fire" is spoken in "Verbal Assault". The solo player mans a large battle contraption armed with various methods of attack, while the team players ride on smaller vehicles, trying to shoot the machine down. The four commands from the Mini-Game instructions include "Fire", "Missile", "Drop Bombs", and "Laser", all self-explanatory. Each team player has three hearts of health, and thus they are eliminated after being hit three times. If the player driving the machine can eliminate all three team players, he wins. If even one of them survives and they manage to completely destroy the machine, the team wins.
The command in "Word Herd" is "Scramble" not "Scatter". In this Mini-Game, the solo player uses directional commands ("Up", "Down", "Left", "Right", and "Scramble") to herd a large group of Goombas away from the team players, who are trying to punch all the Goombas out of the arena. If time runs out before the team frees all the Goombas, the solo player wins. If the team manages to free all the Goombas, they win.
The fifth Mic Mini-Game, "Talkie Walkie", involves the solo player using directional commands ("Forward", "Move back", "Left", and "Right") to direct their character toward a treasure chest, while trying not to fall off the path or get hit by the team's Spinies. One Spiny kills the player. If the solo player makes it to the treasure chest, he wins. Otherwise, the team wins.
7. Of the following, which Orb is red?

Answer: Zap Orb

Red Orbs are roadblock Orbs, which are placed on a space. When an opposing player passes the space, they receive the effects of the Orb. However, the Orb only affects the first player to pass. Players are not affected by their own roadblock Orbs. When a player passes the Zap Orb, they lose five coins for every further space they advance. This may not seem like a lot, but it can add up to a pretty costly turn.
The Mushroom Orb, which lets the player roll using two Dice Blocks instead of one, is a Green Orb. Green Orbs are Orbs the player uses on himself for beneficial effects. Should the player roll two identical Dice Blocks, he receives 10 coins. If you get 7's, you win 30 coins.
The Kamek and Mr. Blizzard Orbs are Yellow Orbs, which infect a space. The only difference is these Orbs turn the space completely into a Character Space, which remains in effect until it is overtaken by another Orb. When an opposing player lands on your Character Space, they receive the effects of the character's Orb placed on the space. If you land on your own Character Space, you receive five coins. The Kamek Orb changes one of the victim's Orbs already placed onto the board into an Orb of the player infecting the space. Contrary to the in-game description, only one Orb is changed, not all. The Mr. Blizzard Orb causes whoever lands on it to lose all their Orbs.
8. How many Stars do the hidden character and the hidden board cost at the Star Bank, respectively?

Answer: 30 and 100 stars

Toadette costs 30 stars. Once she is purchased from the Star Bank, you can play as her in all modes. The hidden board, Clockwork Castle, is available for 100 stars. Once the board is purchased, it becomes available for play in Party Mode. Clockwork Castle poses an interesting twist: DK runs around with all the Stars, rolling at the end of every turn (two dice if he eats a banana).

But he turns into Bowser at night, who steals your stars. Directions are also reversed. Bowser rolls at the end of every turn (two dice if he breathes fire). Don't let him reach you, or you'll pay.
9. Which is NOT a 2 vs. 2 Mini-Game?

Answer: "Dust 'Til Dawn"

"Dust 'Til Dawn" is a 1 vs. 3 Mini-Game. Players are placed into a miniature home, the solo player in a small bedroom and the team players in the much larger living room. It looks like a happy home, but all the furniture's covered in gray clouds of dust. Players are armed with feather dusters, and must use them to remove the dust from all the furniture in their assigned room. If the solo player removes all the dust in the bedroom first, he wins. If the team removes all the dust in the living room first, they win.
"Clean Team" is a 2 vs. 2 Mini-Game in which each team must work to clean the gunk off the windows on a tall apartment building. One player on each team wields a spray bottle, while the other is given a towel. The spraying player must spray the gunky windows with the cleaner, while the wiping player removes the suds from the sprayed window. The difficult part about this game is there are sometimes flowerpots on the ledges, and players cannot pass each other. The first team to clean all their team's windows wins.
In "Gondola Glide" (a 2 vs. 2 Mini-Game) each team must ride a gondola to the finish line. Along the way, players pass through large stars colored with A and B. Once you pass through a star, you must rapidly press the corresponding button until you reach the next star gate. If you press the wrong button, your gondola will stop. The first team to reach the goal gate wins.
"Rocky Road" is one of my personal favorite 2 v. 2 Mini-Games. Each team is taking a leisurely drive along a country road, but what's that? Boulders in the road? Players must get out of the car and punch and kick the boulders to destroy them. Then, the team drives to the next set of boulders. There are increasingly more boulders and larger boulders. The first team to destroy the last giant boulder and reach the goal wins.
10. Of the following, which does NOT happen on any Happening Space on Clockwork Castle?

Answer: The directions on the board are reversed

The majority of the Happening Spaces on Clockwork Castle shuffle the warp pipes the player can use to warp to other areas of the board. During the day, there is one green pipe, one red pipe, and one gray inactive pipe in each "zone", while at night, each "zone" contains one green pipe and two gray inactive pipes. Pipes lead to other pipes of the same color (green pipe to green pipe, red pipe to red pipe, etc.)
In addition to these Happening Spaces, this board also contains one Happening Space at the very top portion of the level, near the Time Wheel. If a player lands on this space, he may spin the wheel and possibly change the time of day (day or night). Remember DK changes to Bowser at night.
Brighton and Twila (the sun and moon at each other's throats) also keep homes here, only open during their respective times of day. If a player lands on the Happening Space outside one of their homes, and it is the correct time of day, the player may choose one of two chests, one containing 10 coins and the other containing a Star. Due to DK becoming Bowser, Twila's house is the only way to get a Star at night (minus duels and the Round of Miracles). Even then, you'll be lucky to get the Star and not the coins.
Reversing of direction does occur on this board, but it is when the time of day changes, not from a Happening Space. Players travel around the board clockwise during the day, and counterclockwise at night. DK also transforms into Bowser at night. Be careful! If he gets to you, you lose a Star. If you do not have a Star, he steals 20 coins.
11. How many sub-modes of play are available in Mini-Game Mode (including the hidden mode)?

Answer: Six

There are six different ways to enjoy your mini-game fun. The first, the Mini-Game Tour Bus, is simply a free play mode. Select a type of Mini-Game (4-Player, 1 vs. 3, 2 vs. 2, Battle, Bowser, Duel, DK, or Rare), choose a Mini-Game, form teams (if necessary), and play! This is the only place you can play Rare Mini-Games earned from Solo Mode.
The second mode, Battle Bridge, allows players to go head-to-head to see who can cross the bridge first. Select a type of Mini-Game (4-Player, 1 vs. 3, or 2 vs. 2) and a number of wins (three, five, or seven). Mini-Games are selected randomly, and whoever wins the selected number of Mini-Games first crosses the bridge and wins, sending everyone else falling into oblivion. Another similar mode, Mount Duel, challenges players to be the first to climb to the top of the mountain by winning Duel Mini-Games (randomly selected), in a sort of elimination-type round.
If you want to add a little extra spice to a classic game, try Treetop Bingo. This is the same as classic Bingo, except you get spaces by winning randomly selected Mini-Games. The first player to get Bingo (five in a row) wins.
For an Olympic-style twist, try Decathlon Park. Here, players compete in ten Mini-Game "events" in a race to be the first to win the gold. Finally, Endurance Alley allows a single player to see how far they can go along the path by winning consecutive Mini-Games (of course, randomly selected). Try it out if you want an invigorating challenge. This mode, however, doesn't become available until you buy it at the Star Bank.
12. Which Duel Mini-Game is completely based on luck?

Answer: "Pitifall"

"Pitifall" really turns things around for players, as distribution of coins and/or stars from this duel is based on sheer dumb luck. In this Mini-Game, players have a choice of three ropes, and they must try to select the rope that leads to the platform (only one does). After each player chooses a rope, players swing and see what happens. If one player lands on the platform, that player wins. If neither player lands on the platform, a Fly Guy chooses one player at random to lift onto the platform, and that player wins.
"Trick or Tree" is a brain puzzle. The players are shown a group of four trees of four different heights. The trees begin to dance and shuffle around. Once they stop, the players must each select a tree to climb. The player who climbs higher wins. Keep your eyes glued to the tallest tree as they shuffle.
"Boonanza!" is basically rounding up Boos. Players are placed in an arena containing a group of small Pink Boos, and each player is given a "pen". Players must round up and herd Boos into their pen by chasing them around. When time runs out, the player with the most Boos in their pen wins.
"Cog Jog" is a race through an abandoned factory. Players are led into a room full of a series of rotating cogs and gears of various shapes and sizes. Whenever the Thwomp in the middle of the room crashes, everything changes direction. The object of the game is to reach the exit on the opposite side of the room. Falling off sends you back to the beginning of the level, wasting precious time. The first player to reach the exit wins.
13. How many different types of board spaces are there (in Party Mode)?

Answer: Seven

There are seven different types of spaces, including:
Blue Space- the most common types of space. Gives you three coins
Red Space- takes away three coins
Happening Space- causes different events to happen depending on the board (and area of the board)
Bowser Space- what DK Spaces become at night. When landed on, Bowser appears and either steals your coins/a star or forces all players into one of three evil Bowser Mini-Games ("Pit Boss", "Dark 'N Crispy", or "Dizzy Rotisserie")
Duel Space- the player may challenge any other player to a duel for coins and/or stars
DK Space- only appear during the day (at night, they become Bowser Spaces). DK appears and either gives you bonus coins/a star or (more commonly) all players play one of three DK Mini-Games to win bananas for coins ("Banana Shake", "Pier Factor, or "Tally Me Banana").
Miracle Space- starts a Round of Miracles in which two players are randomly chosen to give up/swap coins and/or Stars.
14. Of the following, which is NOT a Battle Mini-Game?

Answer: "Smashdance"

Battle Mini-Games may randomly be played instead of 4-Player Mini-Games at the end of a turn.
"Smashdance" is a 4-Player Mini-Game. Players must simply Ground Pound panels that light up. But be careful, they don't stay lighted for long. Whoeve Ground Pounds the most panels within the time limit wins.
"Strawberry Shortfuse" is another brain teaser and memory test. Now, a bunch of monkeys run around a kitchen, some holding cakes and some holding bombs. Watch the monkeys with cakes carefully. When the monkeys assemble, each player, in turn, chooses a monkey. If you pick a monkey with a cake, you stay in the game. If you pick a monkey with a bomb, you're out. Once all monkeys in a round have been selected, the monkeys shuffle and re-assemble again. The last player left wins.
"Hyper Sniper" takes players back to an old-time shooting gallery. Each player is armed with a sniper, and must try to shoot targets for points as the screen scrolls down. Smaller targets are worth more points; the largest targets are worth 10 points while the smallest are worth 100 points. If a player shoots a Bowser target, his score returns to zero. At the end, the player with the highest score wins.
"Wrasslin' Rapids" is a hit among male players. It's nothing more than a good old-fashioned fight, while rafting down a raging river. Players must punch and kick each other in an effort to knock each other off. Along the way, they must also avoid obstacles from the background. The last man standing wins.
Other Battle Mini-Games include "Insectiride", "Stamp By Me", and "Control Shtick".
15. Which of these can NEVER happen in the Last Five Turns Roulette?

Answer: The last place player is given a star

The following four events can happen when the player in last place spins the Roulette Wheel:
1. The last place player receives five Character Spaces (full Spaces or Roadblocks).
2. A Bowser Revolution occurs, and all players' coins are divided evenly by Bowser.
3. Red and Blue Spaces triple their original amounts (landing on a Blue Space gives you nine coins, while landing on a Red Space robs you of nine coins.
4. The last place player is given 40 coins (sorry not a Star).
